"Upside Looking Down" might be my favourite on CM. Not the most SDish but it gives me goosebumps every time.

Chris Potter is one of the top, if not the top tenor saxophonist of his generation. He plays 3 face melting solos on this album and I highly recommend you check out those other tracks: Door Number Two & Circus Money

Love your channel! I'm a huge fan of Steely Dan and Donald Fagen's solo work but not as familiar with Walter Becker's solo albums. It's great track and I applaud your youthful enthusiasm (I'm an oldie, devoted to the Dan from the start of their career.)

Great reaction (as always!) to a great artist and track. Perhaps you might want to review an equally great track on Circus Money “Downtown Cannon”. Oh and since you mentioned the drummer I believe Keith Carlock plays on every track of this album. Keith is also Steely Dan’s touring drummer and also played on all tracks on Everything Must Go. Love Keith!

Thanks JK it took me a bit to not be looking for Fagen’s dulcet tones. I was always a OK Walter Becker junkie, because when I first started listening to them, off of Can’t buy a Thrill he was the guy that inspired me to want to learn how to play bass guitar. So it’s always been hard for me to be a fair arbiter. I’ve always just been like a Walter fanboy.

Nice to see you two again. This to me, is Walter’s, The Night Belongs To Mona. I adore this album. The new remastered Aja just came out. It’s supposed to be off the hook. I watched a video last night with Donald discussing it with the three gentleman that did the work.

Nick himself inadvertently illustrates a key difference between D and W solo recordings: Nick’s playing of “air” instruments. For example, he picks up on the keyboard chording…and almost always “plays” more chords, or beats per measure, or per phrase, than is on the record. Nick’s (very reasonable) expectation is of some regularity or density in a part. But…on the record…there.is.SPACE. Becker’s tracks often *breathe* in a way that Fagen’s (IMHO) do not. The latter prefers a “wallpaper” background approach of regular, solid grooves (personally, it feels almost manic at times). Whereas Becker - and his stellar, sensitive players - understand the musical power of *not* playing everything; of space; of breathing. Hope I said this right …🙄

Happy New Year to the both of you and hoped that Santa was "so good" to you during Christmas and plus I can't wait to hear about your 3wk North American Tour and I'll try my damndest to be on the livestream whenever you decide the night & time!! And as for Scott's Dan Request that you both had reacted to just recently, To quote Lex, "It's So Good" especially that outro sax solo on Paging Audrey by Walter and personally I wouldn't mind an extra 2-3 minutes on to that and that was my first time hearing that track and you need to add it to your cruising playlist since it's a perfect song for it!! As for your house mic; You could boost that a little more louder if you please and please forgive me if you haven't heard from me in the last 6-8 months or so!! But, I will try to keep in touch more often then not!! Hopefully I'm still a member of The Family and I am in good standing with you and I just want to still get my request reacted by you and I just miss hearing from you so much!! I'd grew up on Steely Dan as well and love their vibe pretty much and my first song that I had heard from them was Ricky Don't Lose That Number and although I didn't know a lot about what I had heard when I was young, But, I liked what I'd heard and every since they have always been a part of my musical dna and when I'd heard that Walter Becker track that you had wanted Nick & Lex to react to just recently, That's why I'd made that amazing comment about the track even though I had just first heard it and thanks again.
