Really enjoyed this interview. Miki is such a cheerful, joyful and positive person. Her personality is like the sun. I have half white, half Japanese children about her age, and we have raised our kids with a bunch of other half kids here in Southern California. They also went to Japanese school on Saturdays, and it was comprised of a mix of kids from Japan and half kids. Most half kids tend to favor the Japanese side in terms of looks. Some look right in the middle. I’m a blonde haired blue eyed American of English and Northern European descent. My daughter looks almost completely Japanese, and my son looks blended. Miki’s appearance favors the white side more than any half Japanese/white person I’ve ever seen.
I agree that her looks are incredibly European for a half-Japanese person. The thing is, though, is that her facial expressions and mannerisms are hyper-Japanese. Not just a little bit Japanese, but to a considerable extreme.
She looks like caucasian to me since I’m from Japan but it doesn’t matter. My son is also mixed and he doesn’t look like Japanese at all but if he goes to his dad’s country, he looks like Asian they said. He got identity crisis as many of mixed kids face this issue. What I told him that we are planet earth people, so it doesn’t matter if you look like specific ethnicity or nationally. 😌
she looks like an european to me (they both do) too and i'm in france. mixity is a hard burden for the adolescent but diamonds are made under pressure, at the end it's an enormous advantage to have 2 nationalities.
Great interview! My daughter was born and is being raised in Japan but we are foreigners. It's good to know what type of problems se might be facing in her school. It's better to be prepared . Thank you!!
From the way and joyfulness embedded in Miki's speech, I am sure she's a great voice actor. Highly demanded for cheerful anime characters, maybe? 😃 Great questions and interview, thanks Joshua.
Thanks Joshua and Miki for this fascinating insight into your lives! I have never been to Japan and find it an intriguing, mysterious, but beautiful culture! :)
If you didn't tell us she was half japanese I probably wouldn't know. (Not saying that as a positive or negative, just as a person born and raised in NYC and is now a military wife living in Japan) It is funny that Japanese people think everyone in America is blond with blue eyes. America is so mixed and there are all kinds of people all kinds of ethnic backgrounds. Probably the majority of Americans have brown hair and brown eyes. I have straight black hair and brown eyes. My husband has blond hair blue eyes. One of our kids has straight dark brown hair (almost black) and brown eyes and the other has dark blond hair and brown eyes. I was told that my son looks like he could be half Japanese. 🤷♀️ I have also been asked if my black hair is my natural color etc. My mom is of German background and has straight black hair and blue eyes... my dad is of Spanish background and has curly black hair and brown eyes.
I have lived in Massachusetts my whole life. The vast majority of people have dark hair and brown eyes. But it is very diverse here with people of all kinds of backgrounds and immigrants from every country imaginable. So most Americans are not blonde with blue eyes. 🤣 Great interview, very informative.
Dad got around lol comes with the job i guess so does the brother live in korea with his mum?? Good interview youtube lead me here glad I stayed. I think ive seen her on another hafu channel hmmm Max is the guys name??

She looks perfectly half IMO, interesting that some people only see one or the other 🤔
You two have very relaxing voices btw.
Oh thank you!! I’m doing my best not to sound too nervous 😂😂
