Whoever told Vinny that he could damage his hardware by doing this have no idea how good hardware is at preventing that from happening now. We're not in 2009.
Its more to save the creator of the addons butt incase someone want to claim that gwater2 broke their pc. (For example, if they have an overclock that isnt safe for their hardware, they could brick it because they overloaded it with gwater)

My Dearest Melpert, It is with great sorrow and frustration that I must inform you of your own follies. The Z key can be used in Garry's Mod for the PC to undo the last object you have spawned in. By using it, you may have been able to play with these suggestive liquids more easily, and without several minor annoyances. I have hope you shall learn such things before your next experimentation session within Garry's Mod for the PC. Warm regards, Chathony F. Memberson.
This is using NVIDIA's FleX technology that never took off back in 2014. It's part of their PhysX suite of physics calculation tech. It's very cool and it's a shame more games did not incorporate the technology for fluid simulation. Even GPUs that came out back then can run this at good frame rates. GPUs not made by NVIDIA could also use this technology. Super cool to see someone take advantage of this!
The biggest problem with FleX is that it wasn't easily available on consoles, assuming consoles would've been able to even to handle it. Another thing developers having to worry about when porting to PC generally wasn't worth the headache, as unfortunate as it may be
I really miss physics and impressive stuff in games. The rare but existing water physics games, Crackdown and Red Faction (goated), PhysX flexes where you could shoot through cloth or kick up pebbles. God games with terrain or fluid sim. Weight puzzles though that's mostly Valve's thing. Even franchises that are still going got simmered off from what they used to manage on a console with 512MB memory (fire in Far Cry and wall deformation in Battlefield come to mind). /old man yells at cloud saves

Man, I remember when Borderlands 2 had PhysX and it was _so_ cool that you could have a bunch of gravel and shit flying everywhere. I am curious as to whether this is running on the GPU as some kind of crazy shader stuff I don’t understand or if this is just how far CPUs have come in 20 years. EDIT: Quickly looking up the mod showed me that this is utilizing Nvidia’s FleX library, so it does indeed run on the GPU. Makes perfect sense, but is also wild how this is 7-ish year old software that’s still incredible by contemporary standards.
@@AROAH Yeah, Borderlands 2 had the terrain debris and also liquid goop from barrel explosions. Alice Madness Returns also had a ton of liquids, as well as more unique effects like pepper flakes coming out of the pepper grinder weapon. Mirror's Edge had all those tarps and broken glass effects that would tank the framerate as soon as you interacted with them. Warframe went absolutely nuts with PhysX in the early days before they eventually switched over to FleX, like literally every single ability in the game just had thousands of PhysX particles tied to it, I still have old screenshots where my entire screen is just nothing but PhysX fire particles It was always really neat stuff when it was implemented into games, it just usually came with the cost of tanking your framerates, lol (it's funny going back now with a modern GPU because you can usually crank the PhysX particles in an ini file and it doesn't even dent the framerate). I don't know much about FleX, but I think it's meant to be more efficient at specific kinds of sims rather than trying to brute force a bunch the really complex stuff. Like, I know it's often used for cloth sims or grouping particles together to give the illusion of something more complex (like if you had a jar full of lightning bugs, where the jar itself is a simulation of bugs rather than an object containing individual bug simulations). And, even for how impressive this Gmod water stuff is, you can still see that in how chunky a lot of the particles are, how inaccurately they tend to interact with geometry, and how they actually spawn as a grid of spheres from the squirt gun before clumping together. Hardware has obviously gotten more powerful, but the visual trickery has improved as well
