I only recently got into Quake's modding scene, and I have to say I'm extremely impressed at how elaborate and atmospheric most projects are.
Vin would LOVE Arcane Dimensions, the FUNC jams (particularly 10), KooHoo, Insomnia, and others that lean into the fantasy and eldritch side of Quake. Kind of a shame it's so overshadowed by Doom modding given the amount of effort on display.

Cool segment, I believe there's actually been a couple of Brutalist jam map packs in the past, so easy fodder for another stream, no doubt more liminal ones as well, and other Christmas or April fools types that made it into this stream.

Well, God dammit now I feel guilty that I didn't make more of the map. In my defense Liminal Jam had a fairly strict deadline and I barely finished it in time. It is longer when you play it slow (as jam was intended) and look closely for some background spooks. Still I'm glad to hear someone was 'invested' to play it to the end lol

In Quake Xmas Jam 2019 there's a whole jerma level called "The Anti-Christmas" by Nolcoz. Funniest quake level I ever played, maybe one day in the future u could do more Getting Quake with it cause there's so many awesome level and maps people have made out there.

What is the toy at 4:00? It just gave me a deep seeded memory of having this in the early 2000s. It wasn't a beyblade. It made launching disks this. This is going to bother me if I can't find it. I loved that thing.

It's definitely modeled after an early 2000's beyblade-launcher grip. I had tons of them growing up, and it was during the time all the knockoffs used the same molds so you could get pretty much any colour combo of ripcord, launcher, and grip that you wanted.

It is a combination of Block Quake by Kebby and the Quake's 25th Birthday Weapon Pack, also by Kebby. you can find them with a cursory google search or via links in a video by Kebby themselves.

I wish modding tools were easier to find for quake. I won't make a slime girl or anything like that.
Not sure if I should enable you but if you just want to say replace a model of an enemy for say a slime based entity, you can just use blender with the Quake model importer and exporter add-on. There are tutorials online on how to do it, fairweather has a good series on it.
For mapping, Trenchbroom w/ EricW tools. Super easy. Dumptruckds has a great tutorial. One of the most intuitive 3d level editors out there.
Coding and acrual gameplay modifications probably requires the most doing, you're going to need the QuakeC source code for the base game and a compiler like FTEQCC. There isn't many tutorials but the Quake 1 code is written in extremely readable code that's easy to modify.
Modeling : Blender + Quake MDL format add-on (There's a great tutorial by fairweather)
Mapping : Trenchbroom (There's a great tutorial by Dumptruck_DS)
Coding : ID1 QuakeC Source Code + FTEQCC compiler (tutorials are scarce and typically very old, but the code is incredibly readable)

I'm so close to just not watching Vinny anymore. Every time something interesting is about to happen in a game, Vinny ignores all of it, somehow turns all of his brain off, and then declares that he's too stupid and gives up. Does anyone know of a good playthrough of that Quake level?
It's so obvious too, it's a maze of pickups, the game says you need to pick up the green armour, and it literally tells you on the screen that the big machine is for self damage. JFC
I've taken long breaks from Vinny before. I always come back, though. What I end up doing is playing whatever game he missed out on.
Part of what you're saying, I feel, is that for Vinny, it's sometimes difficult to keep up with both chat and doing well/paying attention to the game fully.
I've livestreamed in the past, and just having 5 or 6 viewers in chat can make it difficult to do my best in games, so I can only imagine what it's like to have almost 10k people in there.
But, I also think that with everything going on in the world today, it becomes increasingly difficult for anyone to do their best, regardless.
At any rate, I do feel what you're saying, though. Vinny always comes back around.

When he does packs of stuff like this, he naturally can't spend too much time on one specific thing unless it's going to be a multi-part segment a la UFO 50 or Shroom Jam.
I get it can be frustrating, but I'm here more for his personality than good gameplay.

Kane has my vote of confidence because he's a romantic (hear me out). After listening to an interview he did about the Oldest View, I think I understand his perspective on his work ethic, and both horror and nostalgia, and that makes me feel confident that his crazy-good determination (he made all his work in Blender! That's crazy!) will be put to even better use with the resources A24 can provide.
However, I'm old enough to have been let down, time after time, so we'll see.
I hope Vinny doesn't hate too hard on Kane in this video haha. Vinny can be a bit too mean-spirited sometimes, unfortunately, but only a bit. I still love him haha.
