- I Spent 3 Months Photographing Wildlife in Winter times of Norway. A few species we meet in WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY: Behind The Scenes are MUSKOXEN, WHITE-THROATED DIPPERS, GOLDEN EAGLES and WHITE-TAILED EAGLES. The NIKON Z9 and Z6 have been used for most recordings and photos.
🐺 ABOUT THIS VIDEO
Being a wildlife photographer, there are many adventures that gather up, but that sometimes can not be shown. In my new series Wildlife Photographer: Behind The Scenes I will shine a light on most encounters that I had in a specific season. We start with the Winter of 2022/2023. The snow came late, but at least it is still deep now. You can join me in Dovrefjell to see muskoxen, on my local grounds to look after the white-throated dipper, and in the coastal region of flatanger to photograph golden eagles and white-tailed eagles.

🐺 WHO I AM.
Hei! My name is Gunnar and I am a wildlife photographer from Germany, but I have been living in Norway for nearly 7 years. I am trying to spend most of my time out in nature, if it is the local forest, the mountains or along the coast. Many seem to think I am a professional, though this is not entirely the case. I do earn some money from what I do here, but I am not there yet.

Brilliant. Thank you. Loved the eagles. Your cinema photography and story telling is always outstanding. Stay well and safe travels. All the best. 👍📷😎
As long as there's a good story, I like the whole video
Hi Gunnar, ein sehr schönes und vielseitig interessantes Video -super 👏👏👏
The part with mEider ducks and the hide session i liked best.
Sehr schön Gunnar... Grüße aus Deutschland
Hello Gunnar, very nice video. Regards from Marco.
Hello Gunnar, Some super images and a great video. Keep well, keep safe and do enjoy your photography and filming. I did love your Eagles(amazing image), But I do have a soft spot for the little Dippers.
Yeaeaahh, I wish I was more often at that little river to look after them. Thanks for letting me know, John :)
Enjoyed the video and the 'story telling' part throughout the whole video.
As a bird-lover I enjoyed the close-up of the eider and eagles. But, I have been at Dovre so the Musk 😍
wonderful adventure gunner.
Eagles!
A really enjoyable video Gunnar hard to pick a segment I enjoyed the mix it was well balanced for me personally, stay safe my friend
Great video Gunnar, stunning photos and videos. I'm a massive dipper fan so I think the dipper segment is my favourite.
We have that in common! Thank you, Johann :)
Hey Gunnar, very enjoyable video to watch. There was a lot in that…..but spare a thought for the red fox 🦊 R.I.P. 🥲
Hey Bryan, glad you liked it.
I needed a second to get what you mean. As of my knowledge, the bait at the hide is roadkill, if it was other I would not be going.
Great video as usually Gunnar..!
Good one, Gunnar. My favorite segment was that of the eagles feeding. Take care now.👍👍
Can't choose arrgg but I could listen to eider ducks for ever and feel happy so eider ducks it is.
They’re pretty funny for sure 😄
Nice video again Gunnar! 🙂
Thank you, Pål :)
Lovely video man, like the idea of showing all projects in one video 😊
It saves me some time :P
@@GunnarDresler yeah I’m sure it does 😅
Absolutely amazing footage once again Gunnar! I really loves seeing the muskoxen bashing their heads but the eagle footage takes the win. The brown eyes of the young golden eagle were especially stunning! The more orange looks of the older ones is fierce too but there is something about these brown eyes that amazes me…
Very enjoyable to watch and to listen to as well. It would be difficult to pick a favourite segment at the expense of the others. But I will give the edge to the dipper. I can imagine how hard this would have been, . I am enjoying this format as well as your regular style. I have only recently "found" your channel and still have a lot to catch up..
Thank you very much, John, glad you found the channel. The problem with my dippers is mostly finding a good place to lay low, but also where they are spending most time!
Great work, Gunnar. I enjoyed the Eagle portion of this video best, followed by the fighting Muskox. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for letting me know :) Cheers
The stills and videos of the Golden- and White tail eagles were one of the best I’ve seen👌🏽. Definitely loving the new format. As far as which parts of the video I liked most…well, there is so much, like a mini-documentary. I like the entirety! I must add I also very much enjoyed the previous vlog of your outing with Trond, Oddbjørn and Espen. Love the humor and camaraderie 😃. Have a great weekend!👋🏼🦊📷
Thank you, Irene :) It was some work to put the first one together. I originally wanted it to be around 40 minutes. The thought behind it is simple, I cannot spend more time on RUclips right now, so I have to boil many videos down.
I hope to be out with the guys again, maybe in summer some time, we still have to figure it out.
Enjoy your weekend!
I liked the eagles, maybe since I was there too? ;)
Not entirely, you’ve also seen the eider ducks 😄
Disclaimer: This video shows baiting (different nuts for squirrels & roadkill for the eagles at the hide). Baiting is subject for open ethical discussion. If it is ethical or not may be qustioned, but what it is for sure is a shortcut and all photos are unauthentic. I leave this video, but I will not continue using or showing (if not discussed) it in the future, because I came to the conclusion that it is not at the heart of wildlife photography.
Let me know which segment is your favourite?!
Sorry about the crappy muskox slowmotion, but I had to do it digitally. If you want to help... give me a Z9 :P

Great video Gunnar.
I hope you’re healthy and going well. The footage is all magnificent. Thanks for putting it all together so well and sharing your experiences from the other side of the world again.
All the best from Australia,
Joseph
Thanks, Joseph :) I hope it works well this way, I just don't have enough time for just single story videos.
Hi Gunnar, wow what a fantastic video! I love the behind the scene footage and the way you're telling the story as a narrator. I love the squirrels but the eagles were just amazing! I hope you keep on doing this new format. Greetings from the Netherlands, Gladys
Thank you, Gladys. There is certainly something coming about spring and we see if I continue after that. Fall often does not seem to be more than Dovrefjell :D

Ahhhhh, great video Gunnar! Have too say, that eagle segment is amazing! I like that format! Do prefer when it's just one trip or topic, because your way of filming and your choice of music is always very calming! And I like that brown Fjallraven winter coat, never seen those here where I live! Cheers man
Thank you, Wayne :)
I will be doing "normal" videos here and there, but I just do not have enough time to do them that much anymore I think. I cannot spend fulltime (or just more time) on RUclips at this point. I think some of the videos that I still have from last year will never make it. There is still 3-4 I think.
The jacket I am wearing is from the Värmland series, it is for hunting originally, but serves me well. It is warm, but not intended for winter, but especially it does not make any noise with buttons etc.
Cheers
@@GunnarDresler awesome! Take care Gunnar!
Very nice as always :) question: how hard are the squirrel-pictures cropped or do you use a TC? - I have a Nikon D4s with a 200-500 and i cant get anywhere as near as you do with a 400mm - but since you have 45mpxl and i have 16...im sh!t outta luck when it comes to cropping.
Hei Kim,
The squirrel photos are not done with the Nikon Z9, I only had that one on Dovre in January and for the eagle trip.
The photo are not cropped or barely cropped. The squirrel here is around 2-4 metres from my hide, so easy game as long as you can focus and move the lens fast enough without scaring it.
Cheers
Who is or how are you panning the camera as you walk past? Is this done in the edit or does the camera somehow pan automatically?
I have mostly been using magic. Well, the magic of post editing. I record in 4K and then zoom in around 105-110%. It does the trick, at least for me. Everything else would be too much work and planning in the sparse time I have out there alone. Thanks for asking, cheers :)
Good video as usual. What I haven´t appreciated much was to see the fox being used as a bate. I hope that beautiful animal have died from natural causes and not being shot because of the photos.
I was told it was roadkill. If it was not for that I would not go to that hide. Thanks for the feedback.
😊
Killing a fox for photos. Not my way of making wildlife photos. Road kill or not.
Yeah, Roadkill. I mean there is the option to leave it on the road I guess or cremate it. I hope you do not suggest that the hide owner drives over foxes on purpose? That would be a hard job.
@@GunnarDresler I like the "hunt" for animals. With bait its kind of cheating in my opinion.
I totally get that, which is why I do not often go to hides. Maybe once in two or three years if I look back. Hides do have the feel of photo tourism for sure.
