- Margin Fishing with a Waggler - No Pole Required. Sometimes the Carp are close in to the bank, in shallow water. This can make it difficult to fish for them effectively, unless you use a Pole. But what if you don't own a Pole?
In this episode, I provide some helpful tips and information on how to catch them using a Waggler Rod and some homemade short floats.

You are a man after my own heart to choose such Tackle, real fishing at arms-length, Man v Fish, with no elastic or bite-alarms involved. I usually fish for Silver Fish with a Waggler and when they have stopped feeding a Margin Carp or two extends the days fishing. A very light and sensitive Waggler and Olivette weight works best here. No expensive fancy Bait is required, just Sweetcorn or Luncheon Meat straight from the tin!
So anything other than rod and reel fishing isn't "real" in your opinion? That's a narrow way of looking at it. Different people have different preferences and different opinions. Some anglers don't like carp or carp fishing, and some don't like catching silver fish like roach/bream etc. Each to their own is the way to look at it.
@@CB-xr1eg Exactly, which is why I said he was a man after my own heart, no other Anglers were mentioned, they are entitled to their own opinions. I very rarely fish for Carp as to me it is far too boring, I'd much rather catch 30 Roach than 1 large Carp. I like my "Sports" to be active, it's the difference between Hunting and digging a pit and waiting for the prey to fall in. Tight Lines.
@@hunter111uk Fair enough mate, sorry if I misunderstood. All good here.
@@CB-xr1eg 👍
Always enjoy the videos Den,keep them coming
Thanks Philip
Den
Another great video mate. NSW looks great!
Thanks Neil. I love it here.
Nice educational video mate. Nice work 👍
Thank you.
Love your vid's so easy a relaxing to watch I don't fish the pole like my Feeder and float fishing l have got a margin pole Don't have a box l like my chair getting on a bit What about a vid margin fishing with the feeder or small bomb l know it seems inadequate but it works Cheers Den.
Hi Alan. Thanks for your comments mate. I'll give that one some thought.
Looks a fantastic venue .
Not at the moment I'm afraid. Wait till you see this weeks video.
I matched fished for years on the pole, lately I leave my pole behind and fallen in love float fishing margins. The problem with a pole is it just doesn’t feel the same it’s almost sterile because it’s not as tactile like a running line. Thanks for sharing nice video and I look forward to more content.
Thanks for your comments Len.
Cracking video again Den still to cold for me yet
Thanks Barry. Don't worry. It should start warming up for you soon mate.
This is my go-to method since we was a kid. At commercial fishery everyone usually method feeder to an island. Match pole fisherman finish before dusk and Chuck next to peg. The big carp cruise the margin this method gets better the closet to dawn and dusk you are. I've caught some of the biggest carp a few centimetres from my feet.
Absolutely Ben. When you think about all the leftover bait that gets thrown in at the end of a match, it's not surprising that the carp get attuned to it and move in to hoover up free food.
Nice video, Den!

Thanks Denny
Not a pole man at all, Cannot justify the overall cost (Plus I am tight fisted and poor) But a great vid as always. Loved the descriptions those brown dead stick things and the sticky out bit. BTW the Wet splashy stuff you fish in is superb ;)
Thanks Phillip. You mean they aren't called brown dead stick things or sticky out bits? My command of the English language appears to have slipped since I retired down here mate. Lol.
@@FishingwithDen But what a place to retire too!!!!
Great video den those carp look in fabulous condition ,do you have tench and roach down there ,what species of fish are in your lakes ,cheers mate ,love the videos ,
Hi Roy. Thanks for your comments. We pretty much only have Carp down here. There are one or two places with Roach and Tench, but they are hundreds of miles from where I live. The fish really are in great condition aren't they. The main reason for this is that almost nobody fishes for them except us Expats.
@@FishingwithDen ok den thanks for reply do you miss not catching roach and tench I must admit though it looks brilliant where you are ,just watched your vid when you had to go in and get your rod back really funny ,it nearly happened to me on the Trent a barbel nearly got mine but I just got it in time ,I was landing a fish for my son Gary when the rod went ,anyway could talk for hours but thanks for vids take care mate ,from Yorkshire
I’m seriously thinking of unsubscribing Den ...I just can’t take looking at the lovely weather you get 😞. Great shots of the float going under..... May I suggest filming a vid in the rain just for us jealous anglers. 😉
I really don't believe this Geoff. I have been dodging rainstorms day in and day out just to get you viewers a free video and this is all the thanks I get. Wait till you see next weeks video. I was dodging rain all day. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it? 😉 On the other hand, I'm glad I'm not in the UK right now mate! Stay Safe. You should be out and about fairly soon, with a little bit of luck.
@@FishingwithDen well the sun is shining at the mo birds are singing, trees are in bud and the Daffs are up... so it’s not all bad. Iv just seen the start of Easy Fishing Bills last vid, couldn’t watch all of it, I left a message as well great guy....Look forward to the your nx vid Den 👍
@@geoff738 I saw that video this morning Geoff. I was almost in tears myself. I left a message too.
@@FishingwithDen makes you think life’s so short, I made a promise to myself to go fishing more.
@@geoff738 Good plan mate!
Hello, becareful a brake
where are you based Den it looks like your not in the uk
I retired to Australia Adrian. No commercial fisheries down here, but lots of small ponds with plenty of carp.
@@FishingwithDen Good morning Den, happy to see you back ! It seem to me the small river with telecom pole alongside you normally fishing is in Australia too. You are luckier than anglers in UK which is still very cold right now ! Enjoy your fishing !
@@FishingwithDen Ahh ive just been looking at your older videos and realised that you are in Australia im in Shropshire and have a match fishing channel with my brother .I enjoy your videos and was wondering what cameras you are using as the quality is good
@@nse08 Thanks mate. Yes, I retired here a few years ago.
@@margysan I just had a quick squint at your Channel Adrian. Are you the one with the beard? I didn't hear any commentary though. Is that normal for your videos? As for my cameras, I use a GoPro Hero 5 Session for the main camera and a Sony PJ410 Camcorder to zoom in on the floats when they are in the water. The Gopro has voice control, but I also connect via an App to an old IPhone. The PJ410 has no voice control, but I control the zoom from an App on my current IPhone. Which camera(s) do you use?
Where do you live Den?
I retired to New South Wales Australia Barry.
@@FishingwithDen I thought you were posting videos from last summer and why, I don't know, figured you lived SW UK! 🙄
@@barrykent4779 Nah mate. The weather is horrible back in the UK at the moment. Lol. Stay Safe.
