when I buy a product that I used 30 years ago and loved the quality, and the new product is now inferior, I research whether same company is making it. Odds are very good that the company was bought and redone by a private equity group. Quality suffers, and I cannot use that product any more.

Adam, this was my first introduction to Graham Weaver. In my view one of the best interview this year. Perhaps partly because our fund is PE and our philosophies align. Thanks again and Happy New Year!

Hi Adam, Thanks for bringing us this fantastic interview. Love the deviation from the norm from time to time. I think a lot of Graham's messages align closely with many of the things you like to focus on. I love the part of the interview where he talked about taking the time to write your own story, not so much from the past but from this point forward. Having spent a career mentoring younger IT professionals, it's amazing to me how many people don't actually take the time to do this. Bravo for this great interview and please keep them coming.

Had to laugh when Graham was describing their use of the term Code Brown, because in medicine, my field, a code brown is when a patient unexpectedly poops their shorts or the bed.

Pension companies have a yield target which greatly affects contributions required and actuarial calculated outflows.
Private equity exploded when the Fed lowered bond rates and pensions needed yield to avoid serious deficits. Now pension plans have up to 50% invested in private equities deals of all types which exposes them to exponential risk. Underlying private equity asset values are mostly hidden so when the markets correct, this will have an outsized effects.

I thoroughly enjoyed today’s conversation mainly because it reinforced my belief that it is going to be the relatively unknown businesses that will outperform going forward. Living in the San Francisco Bay Area a lot of my peers are over investing in the top few equities completely ignoring a theory that, “Everything eventually returns to the mean.”

Private equity, of those of my age, was done by insurance companies such as TransAmerica and Occidental. This is the same strategy, but at P/E levels far higher than we dealt with. Secondly, the companies had hard assets in RE. We never had the intent to hollow out as that came later with other institutions. We bought in the downturns and it will be interesting to see where today's Private Equity lands under the upcoming downturn in cash flows. It took decades to get here in time and it will take decades to get back to such a time in corporate history. I believe it was far more fun in the beginning of M & A to do turn arounds.

Adam, I am to start off this way. I love your channel listen to it for years. Back in the wealthy on days this said I been in the building trades for 40+ years. Kinda makes me sick to see your friend who I love great guy aggregate many small hard built companies into a larger company through the private equity route note I get it you work your ass off your whole life you want to sell it to somebody it is too big for your kids to buy or somebody else to buy. Private equity comes in. I see some my contractor friends probably going down this route of private equity. Fortunately I was not big enough to be a target for PE so my son-in-law could buy my business . Note to all, if you are smart business oriented and good with your hands. These PE dudes will come after you because you have created something real again Adam I love you with all respect

Not going to lie, when I need something done at my home and need to use a craftsman, I call them and the first thing I ask is if they are owned by an investment group or by a single owner. I always go to the single owner. My experience with investment group owned dental, medical, and hvac have all been awful. They are always twice as expensive and the quality always sucks.
