    I have tied since I was 11 years old….this fly is a great all around pattern. I am no where near as fine a tier as you. Thanks for the very good video class. I wish I had found your channel earlier.

    What I like about this tie, Davie went fast. Thread base, glint, wings in fast, hackle broken quick and tied in, hair tied in, dubbing and a quick half hitch, turn hackle and teach, done. All done with the experience and experience he has built over all this time. Probably the messiest I've seen Davie finish a fly and it' better than 90% of everyone else. Then again.... messy is how a Missing Link is tied.

    Personally I think that the footprint of the fly when the hackle is para or compara dunn style adds so much to the presentation. Well worth it for its overall effectiveness. Both on the river and stillwaters.

    That's a beauty Davie! I love the sequence and construction of the fly itself that finishes into a really nice profile, I'm gonna tie a few maybe after a couple dozen I can make it look as easy as you did here.

    As usual,another great tying presentation!! What would be the largest size you would tie this pattern on? I’m thinking the October caddis we have here in the Sacramento valley for the steelhead. Also.where can I purchase the veniards wax you use? Thanks again David for another great pattern.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  2 года назад +2

      Hi Steve,
      I've mostly tyed it in the smaller sizes though there is nothing to stop you tying it to suit the large caddis as it's a great style and pattern to tye and fish...The prepared fly tyers wax I use comes from Veniards who are a wholesaler and anyone that stocks their materials should be able to help you...I'm glad you liked I the fly and thank you for the kind words...

    I would be curious as to the author of this fly. In the book from Randall Kaufmann he shows a fly named, "E/C Caddis" which was tied by Ralph Cutter. Straight hook fly that is exactly this fly pattern. Is this one of those patterns that two separate people thought and tied the same way? You mentioned Mike (couldn't gather last name).

    Hey Davie, is that micro glint similar to krystal flash? This is fantastic pattern that I completely forgot about, and I like how you tied it on a curved hook. Great looking fly! Cheers

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 года назад +1

      Hi J P,
      The difference between the the micro glint and the krystal flash is that the micro glint has fine stands of Antron wound through it which gives it strength so that's why you can get away with not coating the body with varnish...I'm glad you liked the way I tyed the fly and thank you for the kind words....

    I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you.
    I've been wondering a thing about the direction of winding the parachute hackle and the tying off of it. Seems like the hackle is being wound in "the opposite direction", yet you don't tie off with one on the hackle then one on the hook. What is the difference in this instance?
    Mike

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  2 года назад

      Hi Mike,
      I normally fold the hackle back and tye over it which is as good as using the locking turn that I would normally do. The hackle I was using was a perfect colour but had a thick stem so as long as I keep the thread turns tight then the hackle will be fine...I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you again for all your kind words..
      All the very best Davie..

    • @DavieMcPhail

      Hi @TheCanary24 ,
      I used a Veniards genetic cock neck in the video, it was a white cape which I dyed fiery brown...I bought it many years ago and I was using it up on this fly, you can still buy them...I do use saddles a lot more when tying parachute flies like the Whiting Hebert Minor bronze grade which would tye you many flies..
