For those people judging his story, I bet many of you haven’t been off road in daylight, let alone at night. It’s not a regulated road that you can count on being consistent.
Kudos for having the forethought and good judgement to get the training. I relate to it from the swift water rescue classes, first aid, rope rescue techniques, etc I took when I got into whitewater kayaking. You hope to never have to use it but if you need it, it's a game changer. That he had to use his training on himself on his own is the most ironic part. Well done.
Had a friend fully send his side by side into the woods at night. Ended up nearly dying, leg shattered, we were winching his machine off of him and keeping him dry in a creek bed. Bone fragments upon his pant legs. Things can always be worse and northern canadian paramedics are absolute legends.
This is a great example of why you should always prepare for the worst. If it never comes true, you are still fine. But when it does happen, you are ready and able to deal with it better than anyone else would have. It doesn't often work out well for optimists once the shit hits the fan.
I think moving as a group in the future would be a smart move next time. That being said I applaud your success of escaping a potential fatal situation. For patching yourself up and still setting everything up to drag out your SUV. You are truly an inspiration to all of mankind.
I took a WFR course over a decade ago for outdoor guiding. It is a great course that should be mandatory in high school. 80 hours of curriculum that kids would listen to
Dammn, so glad you;re ok! RIP the vehicle, but you at least made it out of it in one piece! Thank goodness you did the training too which definitely helped
"High clearance" that's lower than the stock clearance of any 3/4 ton truck. Some washout will swallow everything, no matter the height, weight, or width. Quit pretending you know things
Did you have a roll cage fitted as that might help with the windows and the roof bending in, and you've got alot of crap on the roof too, as I dont see anything on the dash or cut into it like it might not be a bad idea to do a half cage as the thing wasnt designed with a metal rack on the roof like that in mind with its crumple zones also I would say if you cant see anything, look into getting some night vision goggles for your next night drive so you can see the road better if you get blinded like this again, and wont have to rely on the side of a road as your navigation point
Guy gets certified for recovery and medical first aid. Proceeds to roll his own rig to show that he is certified to recover and apply first aid to himself. This guy is the perfect picture of the “don’t worry, I’m certified” guy. 😂
I always thought the Macan made more sense for off road, but i guess harder to get cheaper. Let alone the super cool 911 based rigs for mixed surface racing, tho are awesome (tho obviously very different and expensive lol) But in the spirit of this story always thought taking a Boxster or old Cayman and making it a rallycross/mixed surface style car would be fun. Glad your ok dude!
A true accident is a tree falling across the road and striking a car. A person driving off a cliff because they couldn't see the road is a screwup. That said I wholeheartedly support having someone in the group with some medical training, even if it's just basic First Aid and CPR
All those extra lights on the front of the car and this river just jumped out in front of him! :D On a side note, he mentions that he had to climb up a 20ft embankment, whilst I'm not discounting that it would have been a fair climb, the pictures show that it is 10-12ft down AT MOST. Give it another 6-18 months and his story will be that he needed Sherpas to help him up a 1000ft ravine! :D:D:D
Banks like that dont photograph well. I have pictures from just before my nasty rollover that made the hill look flat, yet I still ended up with a caved in roof. Stick to judging pavement, you don't know enough about off road
great story but a few details im confused about. 1. did you guys have a short-range walkie taki? 2. were you using any type of nav system ? 3. anything that affects you being able to see is a HUGE Risk ( with no nav, if you didnt use one). why didn't you keep a greater distance from you buddy? otherwise the training is a great plus
you did a Petty tribute. you do realize the last blue and white 44 not used in Nascar was destroyed in a freak accident, so horrific that Petty buried the car so it couldnt be restored....
I'm trying to decide if this was a commercial for the certification company or he just needed to be sure that everyone knew it was only an ACCIDENT....HE DIDN'T MAKE ANY MISTAKES OR DO ANYTHING WRONG!
It was an honest accident. He totally said so himself. He never even saw the turn in the road. Which obviously means it magically was invisible! Not like he wasn't paying attention or anything.
These guys are narcissistic silver spoon boys. He took all this training just so he could say he was certified just to go directly against what the training taught him about head injuries because "he knew better." And yeah if you couldn't see the corner you were going too fast.
Driving to fast for conditions are driving perfectly legal and correct but driving over the road where there is no more road are two different things bud. Plus you didn’t watch it happen so the fact is no citations were given which tells me that he was following the law and conditions at the time. So… I’ll say it for him. GFY bud. G. F. Y.
@@paulgottlieb9712 🤣 Not being cited, and not being in the wrong are two different things. The o.p. didn't say anything about legality, they were saying the driver screwed up and wasn't adapting to conditions, which is true. Bud.
Unless you were driving with you're lights off, you were either drunk or driving way too fast! That was a clear and easy to see drop off. That was no accident, it was negligence 100%!
No he was following to close with no visibility. Still 100% his fault but imo makes it even worse because he was going slow trying to be careful except there’s no excuse to follow so close you’re driving blind the easiest thing to do just stop and wait.
So this guy hugged the outside of a questionable road and rolled off? Driver error…. Predictable accident. Sometimes I wonder how these rich guys made so much money being this stupid. That’s called a creek where I’m from. Lame story about a dummy doing dummy things. Was he trained to hug the river side of a dirt road? There should be no pride in this.
He Says "Man I'm Upside Down" So Nonchalantly. Ohh look water ... that isn't good. Whoops now I'm in a river with no paddle! Possibly a glacial runoff "feels water" yep definitely glacial runoff! There goes the windshield, many tiny shards of glass! Ton of Blood, only neck back arms and legs hurt with a slight burning, but I'm ok! Training said walk it off! Not sure if he is immortal or just really cool under pressure!
Misconception everybody saw the video and took it the wrong way. He didn’t say he invented the off-road Cayenne. Said he fabricated parts, created a company and built custom ones that other people could enjoy and take off roading unlike the actual ones from Porsche that are an arm and a leg.
Okay, okay...Let's stop pretending. There is no such thing as an "accident" when it comes to auto collisions. Saying things like, "I couldn't even see the tail lights in front of me" is a pretty obvious clue. 😅 "Driving too fast for conditions" is exactly the cause. If you can't see and you crash...you were going too fast, even if the speed was 8 MPH....YOU CAN'T SEE. 😂 Let's look at if from another perspective, if you could see and were driving safe for conditions, than you drove off the embankment on purpose. That's your only other option to this scenario. 🫣
Great preparation of driver and rig. Glad this didn't end a lot worse.
For those people judging his story, I bet many of you haven’t been off road in daylight, let alone at night. It’s not a regulated road that you can count on being consistent.
Keyboard warriors always know their way around every situation. Just ask them! 😂
Yeah, only reason we can get away with such things in WV/VA is because we been riding those same trails our whole lives.
@@vamountainman2512 yes. Even riding familiar (but not memorized) trails at night can feel confusing and disorienting
@@j_mars_cars Still plenty accidents in these hills too 😅
I've done similar thing in the sand dunes. I'm not gonna doubt the man.

What would be your choice for the perfect off-road vehicle?
disco 2 td5 done up professionally
1999 Toyota 4Runner 3.4L 4x4 5spd factory locker and TRD supercharger
Kia Stinger obviously
Beta RR 4T 480, Jeep Wrangler, Gibbs Quadski & Cubcrafters Carbon Cub EX-3.
Definitely never anything from Volkswagen Group.
One the right way up
I’ve come across all kinds of situations like this in N. GA… locals or not, so much dumb stuff happens in those mountains!
After seeing Ed’s on car trex that one season I fell in love with that car and would love to have one
Wow, dude, well done! It's fantastic that you had the training to get through that smoothly. Kudos to you and your guys!✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
