The bus is 12 since it is the only number you can add 3 times and get a sum of 36. Moving to the bottom row, 2 buses (2x12) already equals 24 so the bird must be zero. If bird is 0, the heart has to be 6 since 0+6+0=6. I love these mash up challenges. I will be adding some of these to my digital classroom for students to have fun with. Thanks for sharing!
I am so grateful for all the MashUp Math resources. My students LOVE these puzzles, and I LOVE the algebraic skills they are building without really knowing it. I do wonder about putting a timer on these, however, because I am passionate about conveying the message that being speedy does not equal "being good" at math. A student could certainly pause the video, which is what I will recommend when I share this out tomorrow!
That's what I'd do if we were in school, but we're not. All our schools are closed due to COVID-19. My kids love solving these, but a few kids could use some hints. It would be nice if even one were explained with several ways to solve it.
20 secs on these is putting kids under stress. Unless studied and remembered there is NO WAY to figure these out in under 20secs. Drop the timer and it's useful other than that it's only there to make the TEACHER (OR whoever studied the video) seem more intelligent.
I think it is there to warn you that they will give the answer then. I just pushed the pause button to give my kids the time they needed, then they counted down to the answer.
@@imapringles2928 THANK YOU! Now I feel dumb.....I was working on this with a kid I tutor, and was distracted by all the bells and whistles, and forgot order of operations....hilarious. I've posted a bunch like this on FB, reminding everyone about OOO, and here I go forgetting it myself. I kept saying "45*6 does not equal 70!" Haha, joke's on me.

Bonus question's answer,
Bus = 12
Bird = 0
Heart = 6
Love these puzzles. Kids are solving equations, using properties of math without knowing it. Keep the puzzles coming.
They're actually solving systems of equations.
This was nice I liked the challenge
wow helped me alot! thank you! kids like me need these vids alot!
it helped me learn kinda

You got it!
I'm kind of disappointed. I was hoping this video would help kids learn how to solve these.
There are so many ways to solve these. IMO that is the fun- talking through strategies after they have tried/solved them.

On the 7th one, it was not correct. The cupcake is 2
40+5*6 is 70, so the answer in the video is correct

@@imapringles2928 Nope . There is no bracket 40+5 = 45 then 45 x 6 = 70 ???? The answer is incorrect
@@jariu.b.4417 Bro you multiplicate before you add two numbers (Sorry im German so i don't know the right words) You should learn that in second Grade
