Fun fact for a future video: the phrase "yellow journalism" originated from the very first newspaper comic character, the Yellow Kid, who was portrayed as a street urchin wearing a yellow nightshirt that bore smarmy commentary on daily events

*Fr. **_World Future Fund:_** The Death Toll in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War of 1898: The overall cost in human lives of American actions in the Philippines was horrific. One scholar has concluded concerning the American occupation that "In the fifteen years that followed the defeat of the Spanish in Manila Bay in 1898, more Filipinos were killed by U.S. forces than by the Spanish in 300 years of colonization. Over 1.5 million died out of a total population of 6 million."*
*In the words of David Bowie: "This ain't rock & roll, this is genocide!" : INTERNATIONAL PHYSICIANS FOR THE PREVENTION OF NUCLEAR WAR : NEW DELHI, INDIA, FEB. 29, MAR. 1-2, 2004 : 500 tons of D.U. munitions have been dispensed in Afghanistan. Prof. Yagasaki calculated that 800 tons is the atomicity equivalent to 83,000 Nagasaki bombs. The amount of D.U. used in Iraq in 2003 is equivalent to 250,000 Nagasaki bombs.*
*N.B.C. News, updated 10/1/2010 **7:19:05** P.M. E.T. By Robert Bazell, chief science & health correspondent - U.S. apologizes for Guatemala S.T.D. experiments -- Government researchers infected patients with syphilis & gonorrhea without their consent in the 1940s. - U.S. government medical researchers intentionally infected hundreds of people in Guatemala, including institutionalized mental patients, with gonorrhea and syphilis without their knowledge or permission 60 years ago. Many of those infected were encouraged to pass the infection onto others as part of the study. One third of those who were infected never got adequate treatment. On Friday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius offered extensive apologies for actions taken by the U.S. Public Health Service.*
*WIKIPEDIA: The Haditha killings (also called the Haditha incident or the Haditha massacre) refers to the incident where 24 Iraqi men, women and children were killed by a group of United States Marines on November 19, 2005 in Haditha, a city in the western Iraq province of Al Anbar. At least 15 of those killed were civilians. It has been alleged that the killings were retribution for the attack on a convoy of Marines with an improvised explosive device that killed Lance Corporal Miguel Terrazas.*

I love your Dummies War history Review! You said it on spot for the Philippines. If anyone will Review the history of the Phils. from 15-16 Century, Filipinos are industrious and they like Reading. Therefore the Spanish easily blended into Philippines language and even learned the Spanish at heart because the Spaniards used books, stories and bibles that captured the attention of the Filipinos. In many histories exists, you have a great Eye for details that books never really revealed, like the disease that triggered many Lives of the American Soldiers. I agreed because I read it too, long time ago. More Power to you and continue your great videos! I have already subscribed and thumbs up! And more to comes!!! I`ll take your advice for my Writing!Bless you!

I am from spain and in history at primary school in the 80s our teacher (he was a good teacher with modern methods) still was saying that us marine explosion was autocaused by the us. There's still some kind of resentment in spain for what is called "el desastre del 98" but I really believe was the destiny to end european imperialism in south america. So, good thing Cuba was no spain anymore. But the problem with this war is the context of imperialism of the era. This is a problem not resolved yet, being Cuba a miserable dictatorship. I would like to see a real democratic and independent Cuba someday

The colony (oops sorry), the Unincorporated Territory of Puerto Rico with a Commonwealth Status was, and is the biggest prize the US got out of the "Splendid Little War". On the other side of things, I liked pretty much your explanation of things. Keep on looking, you might hit the truth I actually live in. :)
