Listening to the Borodin Quartet on a sunny day when I am indoors makes having a nasty cold worth it. They are supreme.

The Brahms (and the rest of this concert) is heavenly. So is the Mozart, particularly the second movement where the quartet accompanies with great sensitivity and the clarinet achieves that incredible sense of calm required in this piece. Did anyone else sense a tension in the first movement between the leader and the cellist on the tempo? I felt the first violin wanted a more sedate feel to this than the cellist was comfortable with. However, this soon settled down and the last section of that movement was simply gorgeous chamber music playing.

No, it’s just your imagination. This quartet, like no other, has incredible cohesion, no matter what they play!
Their unison has been praised many times by most severe critics. Since the beginning in 1945, the ensemble developed strict rules of practice to develop incredible sound and tone.

There is a symphony Shostakovich dedicated to the horrific tragedy of Babi Yar. Is there a quartet by him on the same subject? Pls enlighten me.

Это играет совсем другой квартет а не Бородина! Почему не назваться своим именем? Это другие исполнители. Очень странно!

I believe the initial members of the quartet are long gone. This is probably the latest group. Nothing wrong with the same name: these excellent musicians continue the perfectionist-style traditions of the very first ensemble.

No, it’s not the original Borodin Q, but the essence of their approach to ensemble playing, created by Dubinsky, stays intact. We still can recognize and appreciate Borodin Quartet ( is this a 3rd generation since 1945?)

Dit is natuurlijk niet het Borodin kwartet maar ze dragen nog steeds de naam.
Voor mij was het Borodin kwartet Mikhail Kopelman, Andrei Abramenkov, Dmitri Shebalin en Valentin Berlinsky.

Certainly it is hard to imagine the Borodin quartet without Berlinsky, but all the other personnel changed at various points, as you would expect in its 75 years of existence. It was Dubinsky rather than Kopelman who established their original sound. Aharonian is a very fine player and the quartet still sounds amazing.
