Today's card is actually really simple. First, I painted some trees using masking fluid on watercolor paper. After letting that dry completely, I used the smooshing technique to add watercolor over the top. I picked up some Mijello Mission Gold watercolor with a brush, transferred it to a piece of clear acetate, sprayed with a bit of water to help the color move more freely, and then smooshed it onto the watercolor paper.

I have a dear friend that works as an Arts Therapist with abused children. She's always looking for ideas that use minimal supplies. I have been sending her your videos, and she' used some of your techniques with her children with great success!
That’s so awesome!
Note: PLease be careful with masking fluid with children due to the high odour, use in a ventilated area.
A white crayon can be used with younger children... : )
I've done the same with my daughter who is also an Art Therapist! GMTA!! Happy Holidays Corky.
Beautiful card. So organic and yet very elegant! Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous. I can't count the number of brushes I've pitched because they were ruined by masking fluid. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks as well as this beautiful card.
beautiful, I love the free flowing look of the background.
I love the look of the organic trees!! This is one of my favorites so far!
I love all your videos. You have a great technique of demonstrating with precise instructions that anyone could follow. When I watch your videos it makes me want to come hang out with you!
This is so beautiful Kristina. Love the organic look you achieved with the trees and the smooshing. Very artsy and beautiful. TFS!
The Pebeo gum washes out of the brush with water- also I believe it goes on blue but goes clear when it's dry 👍🏻
This is so beautiful- I think it’s my favorite card in this year’s series.
Kristina, you are bringing us crafters so many different techniques to use on our christmas cards or cards for other occasions throughout the new year. I have recently used the liquid mask, but as a mask not as the actual image on a card. I loved the way the mask worked so that I felt free to use different medium on and around the masked image. Thank you again Kristina for sharing your skills to us crafters. :O)
Thank you for making an A7 card! That's the size I use the most because it's more substantial than the tiny little A4's that most people make. Beautiful technique. You make it look so easy. I'm going to have to try it.
Wonderful! I created four tree cards, last night. After removing the masking fluid I painted, lightly, onto the trees of one card. Gorgeous idea! I've been making snowflakes on cards in this same way. Also, I have a small jar of watered down masking fluid for ease of 'painting' with it.
I love the loose watercolour background & it is such a serene card that the sentiment is perfectly suited.
Thank you Kristina...love the freedom of water coloring...so goes with nature................pat
This looks so beautiful Kristina. And with so few supplies. You are so inspiring ❤️
love love love .... such a great technique. You make it look easy. I just ordered the Drawing Gum. I must try.
I love the look of this card. I keep thinking I am finished making Christmas cards, then I see something like this!!! Thanks for inspiring me...again!
My favorite of the series so far! Thanks, Kristina!
Maravilloso.... tus técnicas me encantan... gracias 👏👏😘😘
Hi Kristina, just thought that I would share with you: I use this masking fluid all the time and find it amazing as you can just rinse your brush in water once you've applied to your project - I have never ruined a brush. Thanks for always sharing your projects, I learn so much from you all the time. Karen
Unfortunately, my experience has been different from yours. I’ve never been able to clean a brush after using any type of masking fluid (this one included) without first using a bit of diluted soap on it. The masking fluid dries in the brush too quickly and sticks to the bristles.
Oh, I am sorry to hear that Kristina. Have a great day.
I like the gray color of he masking fluid too. A good silvery gray color can be mixed with an ultramarine (French) blue and burnt sienna. That mix makes a nice gray very similar to the masking fluid.
Erin
Really lovely card, really like the colours you chose and the embossing powder is a lovely touch too. Thanks for sharing this one, never tried masking fluid before, thinking I am going to get some now. :)
Another beautiful card and fun technique! You are awesome!
How nice! You make it look so simple. I really enjoyed watching you do this masking technique ; )
Great card love your trees!
Thanks,for all the inspiration.
My favourite so far!
Simply elegant. :-) Have not made one card this year......cannot wait to have a room set up in order to do so again....I miss it!
Stunning card! (And the polish is lovely too. 😁 I love looking at all your nail colors!)
Love it. Calm and peaceful.
Thanks so much for sharing this minimal-supply technique. Somehow, though, my "simple pine trees" don't look near as piney as yours do...lol. Love the colors of the background too. Have a wonderful weekend and I hope you're able to finally beat that darn cold that seems to be hanging on for dear life! ~HUGS~
#kindnessmatters
I like the gray trees, too!
A favorite of the series! thank you for not cutting it down! =]
I love the colours used for the background 😍
Beautiful card! I so appreciate that you make different sized cards other than A2. I think so many of the gorgeous stamps deserve more paper space :)
Michelle Murray This is completely random, but you are absolutely GORGEOUS!
You are too kind, thank you!
My favorite yet!
Really really this is my favorite of the year. Really.
Does anyone know what the plastic sheet is that the paint is applied to? I know about using a bag or clingfilm but wouldn't know what or where to look for a harder, small sheet of plastic like that? TIA 💗
Thanks for the 'soap and water' tip - I'm reluctant to use masking fluid because it ruins your brushes - but will give it a go now!
Does masking fluid have an odour to it? Thank you
Deborah Anne, most do. Molotow masking pens aren’t as smelly if you want to try that.
Pebeo Masking Fluid is water soluable and washes off completely with soap and water. It works just as well as ordinary Masking Fluid but without any brush problems
I just checked it out on Dick Blick. The product description said it dries waterproof (which makes total sense!), so I would assume you would need to clean it from your brush before it dries. Thanks for the tip, though! :)
So beautiful ☃
Gorgeous!
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!
You make such lovely cards!!!
absolutely beautiful!!
Amazing and beautiful.
So beautiful!!!
I love this card! 😍😍
This is so beautiful!

This is absolutely .. completely STuNnInG !!! Beautiful card... great technique tutorial as well... thanks!!!! : >
Beautiful!
Gorgeous!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!
GORGEOUS!
Beautiful card. And I like your intro music.
Beautiful card - how would you suggest to use masking fluid as a splatter? I think it would make a really pretty snowfall background.
I would treat it like any thicker paint. Just splatter as usual. :)
Could you use a stamp for those of us who cannot forehand draw a tree
Beautiful. TFS
Beautiful 💜💜
Lovely! Think I'll give this a go!
OMG I love this card!!!! I will definitely have to try this , won't look as good as yours, but still have to try Tfs 🤗💖
Do you have to let the soap and water solution dry first?
I didn't. Just went right into working on my card.
Love this!
It turned out so BEAUTIFUL 💟💟💟
LOVELY!
Love the card
K, do you know a good and reasonable US source for Canson Mi-Teintes Spiral Pad - 9" x 12", White Paper, Sheets with Slipsheets, 16 Sheets? I am "into" Prismas this year! Thanks for sharing all these wonderful cards!
Brilliant!!!!!
Gorgeous card!

Please reply if you can or cant its fine either way...i am a huge fan of you! And remember to keep up the good work! ILY! ❤
-xoxo Carys
Well done and tfs....great looking card
I must be a little late to comment but I normally do not comment on RUclips videos. Having said that, I wanted to say I just tried this technique, and it worked beautifully. Since Christmas is over, I went with a sympathy theme. I was wondering if you plan to do some more watercoloring cards with a different theme using this technique in the future? And, I also wanted to say that I find your website to be one of the most informative and well navigational website I have seen in a very long time. Thank you.
WOW I learned a lot
WOW!!
QUESTION: I am in love with this card but, I can't afford even the mini Misti. Do you, or anyone really, know of a lesser priced option or even a different technique yielding same results?
I could practise double stamping for years and never get it quite right.
How about schematics? hahaha
I really do enjoy seeing your work. The content of this piece in particular brings out a spirit of the Holiday that so many people overlook entirely.
Get the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform. Just as good if not better and way, way cheaper! Scrapbook.com have on sale right now for 31.92 and if you sign up for their emails you get an extra 10% off! You can not get a better deal than that!
Maryvel Friesen Thank you! I will look into that. Do you really think it could perform better than Misti? Of course having none performs worse than the lot. haha
I don't have a Misti but do have the Tim Holtz one and I am VERY happy with it. Read the reviews, so far I have not heard of anyone being unhappy with it!
Maryvel Friesen I got the Tim holtz one for Christmas! Thank you for the advise!
Gorgeous! I am allergic to masking fluid, I suppose I will emboss the trees in white and then smooth the ink. Not the same as yours, however, I do not know any other alternative ? Thank you
You could always try iron-off embossing. Emboss your image with clear embossing powder, do your watercolor or whatever over it, & let that dry (if needed). Cover the embossed area with just plain copy paper (I generally use 2 sheets, just to protect the iron), and iron with a regular clothing iron. I set it for no steam and the cotton setting. It may take a couple of passes (change your copy paper to a new sheet for any subsequent ironings), but it removes the embossing from your paper. If there are any stray bits of embossing left, carefully heat it with a heat gun until it "melts" into the paper fibers. Just be careful not to scorch your paper if you do that! It generally gives much the same effect as masking, without the shine. Hope this helps!
Thank you
You could iron off the embossing powder, rubber cement also works if not allergic, cut masking paper around drawn trees and Jennifer McGuire did a video on different ways to mask as well
Day 20 already?! Noooo 😱 lol
beautiful card 😍
you sound little different today? are you ok, did you have a cold?
I noticed that also! Hope you're OK, Kristina! :-) This card is SO artsy! I will give it a try! Thanks!
I’ve been sick for what seems like forever! Haha! Still fighting off a cold, which I thought was gone, but it came back. 👎🏻
K Werner Design oh poor you 😕 get well soon. give yourself enough time to rest 😉
Hope you're better soon. Travel can sometimes do that to you. That dry, airplane air is awful and tends to leave me with sinus issues! I try to order hot tea when possible and kind of 'steam' my face with the hot water. Much 💕 from Tennessee.
I"ve noticed that you don"t sound as enthusiastic. Are you sick?
Beautiful
