omg this is so perfect. I have 43 bottles of fountain pen inks just sitting there doing nothing. I can't get the jane davenport materials. thank you SO SO MUCH
Thank you so much for this video! I love using brush pens, and this is such a great hack for making something refillable on a budget. Thanks for all the names of products too, I am enjoying recapturing the joy I had as young person who painted -- and learning about all these awesome supplies is so fun!
Omg THANK YOU!!!! I’m excited to use all my Ph.Martin’s for new ink brush pens. Arteza has a 6 pack of brush pens for $10 right now on Amazon which is pretty good deal compared to the big Michael’s rip off (amongst many in Michael’s - I always use coupons). Subscribed!!!! ❤️👩🎨
I really like the video!!! I love doing art. Painting and drawing. I've been really enjoying lately using watercolor stuff and inks. I made my own markers with water brushes and inks and liquid watercolor.
Great video! I did the same with kids' liquid watercolor before my Michaels got the Mermaid Markers. I love putting Dye-na-Flow in my empties--it is permanent when dry and extremely vibrant. I did experiment with India ink and acrylic ink in the hope of getting an opaque white... and it was a mistake. 😩 Jane Davenport now sells empty ink brushes as well, $8 for two before the coupon, with finer bristles than most waterbrushes and a clear barrel. There's also individual Brea Reese or Art-C waterbrushes, which have identical bristles and caps, but flared barrels that make them more difficult to store. Love the sticker paper idea! That takes ink so much better than washi!
Walgreens and most pharmacies have blunt tip syringes and pipettes for free. Another inexpensive place is e cigarette stores, call around. Tractor Supply has them as well in the horse section. We used them to mix e cigarette juice :)
So glad I came across this video, I was just trying to find the Pentel Color Brush Pens in different colours and they are so expensive. Why did I not think of this myself! haha thanks for sharing
Ok, fill the brushes with bought ink is no problem. But how can i mix the ink? How can i design the shades that were used in these mermaid brushes? And... if i use the refill bottles for printers... have i to use them pure? Or mixed with water or alcohol? Can you give me an advice? Thx.
oooh ph martins in a brushpen, genius. Since they cost me to much i will do this with ecoline, lol. the needle you can use for your glossy accents btw... no more clogging. these you can put in bingo daubers too, to have the distress stains effect wich you can use on stamps
You can get the mermaid markers on Ebay for anywhere from 12.99 -16.99 with free shipping so that's not too bad. The new ones come in packs of 5 and they are really expensive they are shimmery but that's too much for me to spend for 16.00 makes each pen 5.00 that's too much for me. So this is a great idea. Way to go...
Meow Meow Kapow have you tried the iradescent colors? I have a bunch of them and and the aladin calligraphy inks and I'm trying to find an easy way to use them other than dragging out my dip pens.
Thank you for your video. I can buy water brushes at art supply stores for about $3 dollars each which is about half of what they are for Davenport ones at Michael's- but I am going to look online too. I bought the mermaid markers but I also have made my own ink sprays and think that making the water brushes is more economical. I think Jane Davenport is talking about making replacement inks but they are still limited colors. I did see a video where they showed that you can fill the mermaid markers when they run out too with I guess whatever ? Thanks again for your informative video :)
Haha I have that same cup that the markers were in! Great video, Im totally going to do this. I ordered water brushes from AliExpress once but they leaked like crazy and were totally unusable 😄
I bought the Blick liquid watercolors and they don’t work. They have a thickener in them (glycerine or gum Arabic). I’m not sure how you got them to work or if you’ve even tried them but I wouldn’t recommend them for water brushes or spray bottles.
How do you spell that Ali express you talked about never heard of that company before. Thanks so much for letting us know all of this awesome information. Definitely making my owm since on a fixed income can't afford to buy anything too expensive definitely wanted to have some water brushes for so long now after get the supplies can now make my own.😃. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS VIDEO. YAY RAH.❤❤❤❤❤. YOU ARE AWESOME. ❤
Arty Crafty Alchemy yeah but they leak all the time. Which is fine(ish) if you just have water in there but if there’s ink in there, that’d be so messy.
KB’s Creations I just used a 60% Joann’s coupons. Brings them down to a much more doable $16. That said, I have been buying my water brush pens on eBay for years. They usually sell 3 brushes for under $5 shipped. Great for fountain pen inks. If you like shimmering inks, the de Atrementis inks have tons of shimmer, twice as much as the J. Herbin 1627 shimmering inks (though that enchanted ocean is one of my favorites. And I keep it in its box too!)
Just FYI, you can turn any of your these to a shimmery colour by adding a little 'pearlescent, brand white ink. Also, the ali express watercolor brushes are horrible. Leak too much! 🇦🇺❣️
The first 12 WC Jane brushes were $30. That was a decent price. But now you get 6 brushes for $30. Yes a rip off. I just left a message on Jane's channel about the new prices. A her ink bottles are $8. Another rip off. I won't be purchasing her new stuff.
Horse women2000 yeah the first 12 pack used to be $30 i bought it when it was that price but now they raised the price to $42 after the new colors came out, which is so ridiculous!
I buy her inks only when I have a coupon for Michael's because even Amazons prices for them are ridiculous. With the coupon though I dont mind buying them and I use them for everything including fountain pens, as watercolors and in waterbrushes.
They sell mister bottles for $5.99 for two tiny bottles. You can SETS of those at dollar tree for $1. The company has some stuff that is a nice buy (with the usual Micheals coupon, very little of what they sell is worth paying full price) but you're essentially just paying for fancy marketing. I've looked over a lot of their products and it just seems like they are selling student grade materials and marketing them to a not very art savy crowd who dont know any better when it comes to art supplies. Art journalers don't need $30 pastel crayons when they can easily get a nicer set with more colors from Faber Castell's kids line at 1/4 the price. If you want the whole acrylic paint line, its $100 for 20 tubes...when you can get 24 set craft smart acrylic paint for $14 right in Micheals. Archival quality and lightfastness are not important to the general audience of that brand but they are paying prices for products that usually don't even eet those standards anyway.
It seems you must be well off to be a Jane Davenport girl. I have had to come up with all my own things but they work for way way less than half price!!
Yea, dont mean ill will to Jane Davenport, I love her art. I even bought her book but paying those prices for what boils down to fancy branding is kinda rough.
I think i knows how to make them look so first you get a paint brush like thin i guess idk and get a pen remove the stuffs and put it inside the pen and try to right I THINK THIS IS HOW U MAKE THEM SO DONT START SAYING I KNOWSS OK
Tip: don't put copic black ink into a brush pen like these. I learned this the hard way and ruined an expensive water brush. It makes the bristles stiff and then drips ink all over your project.
the diy starts at 10:22! goddamn it you're welcome!
Xyla Rachel Anne Baño OMG thanks
omg this is so perfect. I have 43 bottles of fountain pen inks just sitting there doing nothing. I can't get the jane davenport materials. thank you SO SO MUCH
So glad it will be helpful to you! Making these is so fun and a great way to use your ink!
Wonder if alcohol inks could be used ?
Thank you so much for this video! I love using brush pens, and this is such a great hack for making something refillable on a budget. Thanks for all the names of products too, I am enjoying recapturing the joy I had as young person who painted -- and learning about all these awesome supplies is so fun!
Great video. I have found those large syringes at my local dollar store with the cooking supplies...for injecting marinade into meat.
Did you ever do the video comparing the Paperchase brand of markers with the Jane Davenport Mermaid markers?
I was wondering if I can use my water pen like that. I have some Lakeshore water color brushes and refilled water color packs. Thanks for your diy
Your diy is great. I think I will do this with when my water brush gets to the point of retiring
I'm using both water fillable pens and watercolor pencils, and I'm new to these
Omg THANK YOU!!!! ❤️👩🎨

FANTASTIC VIDEO!!!! 🎨 Thank you so much, I love your down-home, next door neighbor type of presentation

Can I do it with a normal pen? Or do I need a brush at the end of it
You can also use dylusions sprays and distress stains/sprays to make these
Thank you for the instructions! This was great and now I am off to buy some ink in the colors that I also want and don’t have with my JDMM!
Hi... should they be stored brush up or down? Or horizontally? Sorry if you have answered this... just discovered you 😃 yay!!
Can I put liquid watercolors in these?
What noodler's ink is the hot pink swatch? Thank you in advance!
Great tutorial. The pens from Aliexpress are great.

Im struggling with the same issue
Mix it up in another container and transfer
Great job!
on amazon prime its 20$ also if u put water in them will they lighten?

Love that this is being recommended to me because it’s mermaid markers during mermay, even though this is like five or six months old. =>.
Meow Meow Kapow have you tried the iradescent colors? I have a bunch of them and and the aladin calligraphy inks and I'm trying to find an easy way to use them other than dragging out my dip pens.
I have ordered them from aliexpress, I have no complaints
Do you take out the watercolor when your done?

Will you please send the link to the pens you purchased from Paperchase? Thanks!!
Thank you!
Wait I checked to see when this was uploaded and it’s uploaded on my birthday
Chubbz Arts Happy Birthday 🎂!

Brenda Snider it's aliexpress.com. The wish app (wish.com) is essentially the same thing but you can purchase many items in bulk from aliexpress
Check ebay for the watercolour brushes, you can get a set of three (different sizes) for $3, make sure you have it set to search worldwide...
Arty Crafty Alchemy yeah but they leak all the time. Which is fine(ish) if you just have water in there but if there’s ink in there, that’d be so messy.
I found a set of 3 water-brush pens for $3 on ebay.. haven't tried them yet but I'm betting they'll work just fine for this purpose.
Got a set of 12 on Amazon for 11.99
Michaels accepts competitors coupons- mine lets me use Joann’s and AC Moore’s 55% or 60% off one item coupons.
KB’s Creations I just used a 60% Joann’s coupons. Brings them down to a much more doable $16. That said, I have been buying my water brush pens on eBay for years. Thanks! But will they be good enough for modern calligraphy? Or are they just way too watery?
{Miss.Chelle.Aus} 🇺🇸 ♥️🇹🇻
goulet pens sells them
I worry that the jane davenport ink markers are not lightfast or archival, fountian pen ink is a better choice! 🌸
