    Thank you so much for this video! I love using brush pens, and this is such a great hack for making something refillable on a budget. Thanks for all the names of products too, I am enjoying recapturing the joy I had as young person who painted -- and learning about all these awesome supplies is so fun!

    Omg THANK YOU!!!! I’m excited to use all my Ph.Martin’s for new ink brush pens. Arteza has a 6 pack of brush pens for $10 right now on Amazon which is pretty good deal compared to the big Michael’s rip off (amongst many in Michael’s - I always use coupons). Subscribed!!!! ❤️👩‍🎨

    Great video! I did the same with kids' liquid watercolor before my Michaels got the Mermaid Markers. I love putting Dye-na-Flow in my empties--it is permanent when dry and extremely vibrant. I did experiment with India ink and acrylic ink in the hope of getting an opaque white... and it was a mistake. 😩
    Jane Davenport now sells empty ink brushes as well, $8 for two before the coupon, with finer bristles than most waterbrushes and a clear barrel. There's also individual Brea Reese or Art-C waterbrushes, which have identical bristles and caps, but flared barrels that make them more difficult to store.
    Love the sticker paper idea! That takes ink so much better than washi!

    Walgreens and most pharmacies have blunt tip syringes and pipettes for free. Another inexpensive place is e cigarette stores, call around. Tractor Supply has them as well in the horse section. We used them to mix e cigarette juice :)

    Ok, fill the brushes with bought ink is no problem. But how can i mix the ink? How can i design the shades that were used in these mermaid brushes? And... if i use the refill bottles for printers... have i to use them pure? Or mixed with water or alcohol? Can you give me an advice? Thx.

    You can get the mermaid markers on Ebay for anywhere from 12.99 -16.99 with free shipping so that's not too bad. The new ones come in packs of 5 and they are really expensive they are shimmery but that's too much for me to spend for 16.00 makes each pen 5.00 that's too much for me. So this is a great idea. Way to go...

    Thank you for your video. I can buy water brushes at art supply stores for about $3 dollars each which is about half of what they are for Davenport ones at Michael's- but I am going to look online too. I bought the mermaid markers but I also have made my own ink sprays and think that making the water brushes is more economical. I think Jane Davenport is talking about making replacement inks but they are still limited colors. I did see a video where they showed that you can fill the mermaid markers when they run out too with I guess whatever ? Thanks again for your informative video :)

    I bought the Blick liquid watercolors and they don’t work. They have a thickener in them (glycerine or gum Arabic). I’m not sure how you got them to work or if you’ve even tried them but I wouldn’t recommend them for water brushes or spray bottles.

      Arty Crafty Alchemy yeah but they leak all the time. Which is fine(ish) if you just have water in there but if there’s ink in there, that’d be so messy.

    Michaels accepts competitors coupons- mine lets me use Joann’s and AC Moore’s 55% or 60% off one item coupons.

    • @TosaNewsense
      @TosaNewsense 6 лет назад +1

      KB’s Creations I just used a 60% Joann’s coupons. Brings them down to a much more doable $16. That said, I have been buying my water brush pens on eBay for years. They usually sell 3 brushes for under $5 shipped. Great for fountain pen inks. If you like shimmering inks, the de Atrementis inks have tons of shimmer, twice as much as the J. Herbin 1627 shimmering inks (though that enchanted ocean is one of my favorites. And I keep it in its box too!)

  • @MissChelle
    @MissChelle 7 лет назад +16

    Just FYI, you can turn any of your these to a shimmery colour by adding a little 'pearlescent, brand white ink. Also, the ali express watercolor brushes are horrible. Leak too much! 🇦🇺❣️

  • @Horsewoman-pt2ku
    @Horsewoman-pt2ku 7 лет назад +12

    The first 12 WC Jane brushes were $30. That was a decent price. But now you get 6 brushes for $30. Yes a rip off. I just left a message on Jane's channel about the new prices. A her ink bottles are $8. Another rip off. I won't be purchasing her new stuff.

    • @sososick1135
      @sososick1135 6 лет назад

      Horse women2000 yeah the first 12 pack used to be $30 i bought it when it was that price but now they raised the price to $42 after the new colors came out, which is so ridiculous!

    • @CidtheVicious3
      @CidtheVicious3 6 лет назад +1

      I buy her inks only when I have a coupon for Michael's because even Amazons prices for them are ridiculous. With the coupon though I dont mind buying them and I use them for everything including fountain pens, as watercolors and in waterbrushes.

    • @lecelly6697
      @lecelly6697 6 лет назад +2

      They sell mister bottles for $5.99 for two tiny bottles. You can SETS of those at dollar tree for $1.
      The company has some stuff that is a nice buy (with the usual Micheals coupon, very little of what they sell is worth paying full price) but you're essentially just paying for fancy marketing.
      I've looked over a lot of their products and it just seems like they are selling student grade materials and marketing them to a not very art savy crowd who dont know any better when it comes to art supplies.
      Art journalers don't need $30 pastel crayons when they can easily get a nicer set with more colors from Faber Castell's kids line at 1/4 the price.
      If you want the whole acrylic paint line, its $100 for 20 tubes...when you can get 24 set craft smart acrylic paint for $14 right in Micheals. Archival quality and lightfastness are not important to the general audience of that brand but they are paying prices for products that usually don't even eet those standards anyway.

      @lecelly6697 6 лет назад +1

      Yea, dont mean ill will to Jane Davenport, I love her art. I even bought her book but paying those prices for what boils down to fancy branding is kinda rough.

    Tip: don't put copic black ink into a brush pen like these. I learned this the hard way and ruined an expensive water brush. It makes the bristles stiff and then drips ink all over your project.
