I bought the Series 2 Traveler Kit (GK2545T-82QD) back in Dec 2015 when it was just launched. It is a very good tripod and I brought it for my every travel shooting. Old Gitzo ball head is not good. But the new Gitzo ball head launched with this traveler series is perfect match for which the legs can close with minimum space.
You can also replace the new Gitzo ball head by the Novoflex Classic Ball 3 (or 2) and the Q-Mount (also by Novoflex). (The Swiss Gitzo Shop sold this combination for some time.) I think this might be a "perfect" combination. However it is very expensive for (IMHO) the best travel tripod in the world.
@@MusikPiratCH looking at the design of Novoflex. Classic Ball 3 or 2, it does not have a slim shape design to fit the closed legs of the Gitzo Traveler as similar to Gitzo’s own ball head (which is custom fit for Traveler). Thus I guess the legs will unlikely be able to close completely with the Novoflex Classic Ball heads… Certainly, the quality of Novoflex Classic Ball heads look great (and expensive😅) and they are good if you don’t mind the little “protrusion” of the closed legs. Thanks.
@@kcwc08 ruclips.net/video/t-6q9-ROd8c/видео.html It's in German though. This is the Classic Ball II and it fits perfectly! (You can reverse the Classic Ball. That is one of its features!)
Nicely done. I have and did a video on the Gitzo Traveler Series 0 tripod. I kinda wish I went for the Series 1 for the added capacity, bu the 0 Series is really compact and lightweight.
It is one of those give and take, I prefer this series, it is a bit more refined! But I also got this during the pandemic, so the tripod have not seen much daylight yet.
Great Question, series can handle 4 lb more compared to series 1, it is also a bit heavier and a touch longer when folded as well, but not by much. I think these 2 comes really close. Because of the payload difference, I feel that the series 2 is a touch stiffer than series 1 and for the small price difference, I would rather have the option to put a heavier camera setup on it. But as you see in the video the heaviest rig that I have so far is a D850 with 70-200mm. The sturdier part though comes in handy even when you are not putting as much load on, i.e. night / star photography with wide angle lens, the it is less prone to vibration and bending.
@@ArtIsRight With the Traveler series 2 you can also mount spikes and other feet for the tripod. This you cannot do with Gitzo's traveler series 1. However as usual with Gitzo you have to buy all additional items seperatly. (With Sirui or Benro you'll get those things with the tripod and much cheaper.) The quality of Gitzo IMHO is outstanding. Maybe together with Novoflex Gitzo is still no. 1 regarding tripods (and monopods)!
Either will do really. I don't have a PD carbon travel to test but now that you mentioned this, I kinda want one to test out and try. Personally I have been using gitzo for about 2 decades now and really love them. Although PD does come with many bells and whistles, that makes gitzo feels vanilla.
It is but it is smaller as well. And like I said in the video, since I already own on1, even though it might be a bit larger, but I chose not to spend the extra money on the head. The overall weight saving with the Gitzo head is small, and yes it is more compact but to me since I can fit the tripod in my carry on, I'm satisfied. If you don't have a good head lying around then yes consider the head from Gitzo. :)
Very informative Video, thank you Art. I'm planning to buy with Gitzo Ball head, will this work with Nikon Z7 with 70-200mm lens without any hassles? And will it withstand winds while on landscape photography?
I think that it will hold up just fine, if you are in a really high wind area it may not be loss some stability, but not much, the carbon fiber is fair strong. Overall, I love using it in the field.

Great info! Thanks Art!
You're welcome. It was fun filming this!
For what types of situations or equipment would you prefer a series 1 over the series 2?

I am trying to decide whether I should go for PD Carbon Travel Tripod or this Gitzo. I plan to shoot with A7R V + 100-400GM Lens.

Get the Gitzo. Love Peak design as a brand but returning the their tripod tomorrow.
Why not the ballhead from Gitzo? Folded is it much more compact.

curious can it support like Sony a7r4+200-600mm Len?
I'm sure that it can without any issues, it is within the weight envelope
