As a college student diving into development, watching your videos on what devs can do is super motivating! It's like a burst of inspiration to keep learning new stuff.
Awesome!
i have no reason being here (not a coder/engineer/start up founder). just captivating, your vlogs ✌🏾🌳
What tool or framework did you use to keep javascript in the cloud and server?
Very excited for the build series!!! Are you still working at Kiki or you're focusing on repobear?
More details to come later
Did you leave Kiki ?
Hello Jacob, I'm a French student as a Java's developper and I love your content!!! Keep Grinding
💪
New details to come soon
Which vscode theme is that? It's really cool!
Night owl!
@@JacobSucksAtCode Thank you!
why use nestjs for backend?
It’s amazing!
keep that nice work up!
Thanks!
@@JacobSucksAtCode actually inspired me to start building my own first project besides Uni and work stuff to fix a problem which one of my mates and I had :)
Bro need some suggestions I know frontend with NextJs and right now I'm confused about backend should I go for NodeJs, MongoDB, ExpressJs and convert it into MERN Full Stack Development or should I go for Java, SQL, Springboot and convert it into JAVA Full Stack Development? any suggestions?
I wouldn’t do either. I’d learn typescript really well. Then I’d learn Nest.js + PostgreSQL
You building a startup, film videos, editing, make exercise... How you organize your day? That's amazing!!! Success man!
As a bootcamp developer in training, this is really inspiring! There's no feeling like seeing a POST function successfully add an entry to a database haha.
I'm currently working on a portal that cybersecurity firms can use to collaborate with external clients during an incident. Many incidents I've been in, everything was collaborated via email. When there are multiple lines of work and multiple internal and external teams, things can get confusing. This would be a central place where you can get the latest on what's happening, next actions, and upcoming meetings.
Been watching a lot of your content, really inspiring - Just wanted to better understand why you separate your front end and back end and if you know any good resources to understand this better
Be honest, will AI kill software engineer jobs?? What's your thoughts on it,
Who knows!
I'm coding a ecommerce platform for ingame items selling it is always a great pleasure turn great ideas into code, i share your excitement.
Hell yeah!
I love how just after initializing the Next.js repo you just deleted the test folder hahaha it's so relatable
Any particular reason for rolling your own auth versus using something like auth0?
Expensive
Fair enough. I searched for the repo on your github, but didn't see it@@JacobSucksAtCode
niceee, 10 min is something, keep going Jacob!
Woooooo
@@JacobSucksAtCode next goal is 12 minutes!!!🎉😂
haha@@ДанилМозговой-з3ч
1:30 Mihailo? Greetings 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
For Next js, are you sticking with page router or use app router?
I use app
Loving these videos recently mate! Are you still with Kiki or putting all of your focus into RepoBear now? Keep it up man!
More details to come soon 😎
Is this a parody of a software startup? Like the 2020s version of the office? Genuine question
Genuine reply no hahahah
What are you building? It just sounds like a bunch of buzz words. Genuine again
You should really give Bun a go instead of Yarn. Smaller bundles, faster compiles, I’ve moved all my projects to Bun and won’t look back
Starts working at 11:00 😂
I was wondering why do enjoy working in public spaces instead of at a desk?
Really inspiring & motivational videos for me as a Software Engineer myself! :)
'use server' is really cooool~!
Amazing video, I always enjoy watching them! 😃I was just wondering, how did you personally get into coding? ❤
are you still working at the startup aswell?
More details to come later
who takes the cup without the saucer?
Me!
I run my startup from my phone, writing it in the note, then boom, I start coding as simple as that.
My stack is Laravel Livewire and flutter.
It takes minutes to do all of what you have done in days.
lol
Great content!
great video bro, i'm currently building a LMS platform, i think it will be a game changer!, but keep doing what your doing.
Good shit. This is really inspiring and is helping me code daily and try out new things.
Hell yeah!
Can we also find you on LinkedIn?
You can follow me Jacob Binnie 😁
How will deploy your database? I saw in the video that you use a postgres docker setup. Where will you host that on production? I'm building a saas platform and struggling with the database setup. I know it will be a sql database, but not sure yet which one. Options are Supabase(fav right now), Neon, Planet scale (kinda expensive) or a simple db server with postgres. Whats your advice? The rest of the stack is Sveltekit, tailwind etc hosted on vercel.
Start with Supabase
Been considering leaving medicine, this seems cool!
Creating new nestjs project -> delete boilerplate tests first😄
what's repobear? Is it a personal project or what?
Yep
Nice. what does it do?😅@@JacobSucksAtCode
Nice, great video.
You talking about you can work offline, with nest js and next js. Is that possible if you are connected with a database, or do you got a database local? Docker?
Local database
That microphone is $$. You did good with that. And you definitely dont suck at code. You like Scrimba- I'll take your word for it and we will see what happens.
Enjoy!
Hey there @JacobSucksAtCode I'd like to ask as a node developer what does nestjs different looking at the developer perspective & what could be the learning curve for it ?
It's essentially Express on steroids. It's awesome.
Nice video and pretty new office space. Love the look. Are you using yarn workspaces for your projects - it’s quit nice to organize projects as monorepos? Lovely greeting from Germany. Keep up the great work ✌🏻
I don’t actually use yarn workspaces. I just use yarn v2
Any advice or techniques that you use to help keep yourself focused when working (especially when you're coding out in a public space like a cafe)?
Focus on achieving only a couple of tasks per session. Eg. Implementing a login endpoint
I'm working on a personal project rn, it's kinda a SaaS for real estate companies and people who rent/sell properties to publish their properties for rent/sell, I don't plan to publish it, it's just to practice and learn the nestjs/ts/react stack.
Dude that’s awesome!
Im a CS student so I don't have alot of free time but I am currently working on my first website that will act as a business card/social media exchange.
Awesome!
I personally like a little bagel with my cream cheese
I might have missed this, but are you still working for that startup you initially moved to NY for or have you gone all out on your own work? Best of luck with the product
More details to come later ❤️
what database are you planning on using? I'm assuming postgres; if so which provider are you thinking of making use of when you've gone live?
Postgres. Either AWS or Railway
Another great video Jacob! 🔥 I'm building a meal planner app in my free time 🥗🍛
That is awesome!
this is so clean bruh, very much inspiring to start my own build series :)
quick question, what is the vscode theme and font ?
Night owl!
jacob what the heck I was out for a couple days and lost about 32 new videos.
wait, thats a good thing.
😂
nice vs code theme, you should do a setup vid
The first you do when install NestJs - delete tests folder. AWESOME!
Hahahah yessssirrrrr
nice vlog Jacob, Could you make a video about what's in your tech backpack?
Sure!
why did you pick nest for the backend instead of just using next's apis ?
Nest is essentially express on steroids. It’s incredible for building dedicated scalable backend infrastructure. Check it out!
Do u think development is dead with the advancements of AI what it is now?
Absolutely not
Hi Jacob. For someone just starting out, would you recommend moving to NextJs after React or fully learning the MERN stack before using other frameworks and libraries?
As always your videos are super inspiring ❤
Yeah you could try Nextjs
@@JacobSucksAtCode thank you so much. I’m trying to be full stack dev. Do you think the MERN stack is a good way to go or there are better backend options that have more industry usage. I’m asking because I’ve never seen you mention express or node or mongodb in your videos. Thanks
Nice one! Inspirational daily routine 😄
how to develop apps faster? what are your productivity hacks?
Get excited about what you’re building!
Wwwooooooowww, inspirazione unica Italia ❤️✈️
hey i have one question. so in repobear i have to give you my private repo in your app and you will clone that in your database right? if i am wrong pls correct me i am developer and i want to learn how this work and if this work the way i explain above than i have one concern about your project. let's have a talk.
Nope, I will not save to my database. There would simply be a one time clone per request to view a repository via share link. The backend would deicide whether the viewing user can view, clone or see absolutely nothing.
@@JacobSucksAtCode ohk keep going we are with you
What is he building?
Nothing, he sucks at code
@@JacobSucksAtCode okay. Whatever it is.. good luck
YC podcast on the phone ❤
New to the channel so apologies if you have covered it before. I see you were using coda and wondered if you could provide a comparison with visual studio code - why you prefer coda and is it purely a mac thing or you generally prefer it as an editor.
I don't use coda. I just use Vscode
Ah my apologies, I thought I saw coda in one of your vids so assumed you use that.@@JacobSucksAtCode
If i have made a figma ui of an app how am i going to you know make the app look like that ? What's the process for that ( figma to developer end)
I guess you gotta practise knowing how to do both 🤷🏼
Learn css and use your figma design as a template.
These videos inspire me to keep working of my projects, I’m also a self learner developer
That's awesome!
Where do you find people to hire for your startup? I have a project I want to get going but not sure where to find people to help me build It
Who do you need? Get started with whatever tools and skills you have
@@JacobSucksAtCode Ye i Think i will 😊 later on need to find someone for backend, have no idé how to build that but figured out iam going to do a codecademy course in fullstack so in the future I have that knowledge too 😀
nice video jacob, btw what kind of mac do you use?
Link to it in video description
Now I know why) thank you!
whats your theme on vscode? I liked haha
Night owl
Just saying drizzle is better than prisms
🤷🏼
Love the new office space 😍
Thanks bro 💪🏼❤️
What happened to kiki. Did you leave
More details to come later ❤️
Great video man! Keep up the awesome work on Repobear.
❤️
Goodluck bro, followed u on github
Welcome aboard!
Really excited to try the amazing new project RepoBear!!!!
👋👍
💪🏼
Love these vlogs and updates on the project.
More to come!
Hell yeah man, great video! Love the new setup as well! Keep up the great work!
this type vlogs is so nice, keep going Jacob
❤️
Man, I am so glad you are back. Not a dev BTW but loving your content.
I love your vlogs, youtube needs more like these
❤️
Keep going! 💻
Thanks!
You've been working so hard on this startup and I pray it really turns out to be a $million dollar startup…Anyways, when are you announcing the winner for the keychron keyboard 🥲
Next video 😎
