Yes. Or they make it so unrealistic and over the top - not real life but more contrived. That's why I like Gabe's travel too. Wonderful footage, loved your vlog, as a half Bulgarian I wish you would visit the country in a different season when the weather is more welcoming, cheers!
Really enjoyed your video. Most places you show are very popular but also touristy. You need to go out away from city center to the neighborhoods to see how most people live. It's also cheaper there.
Great video of a delightful city! I spent one week (not enough!) in Bulgaria in October. Everything exceeded my expectations. The food was uniformly excellent, the people friendly and welcoming. By all means take the Metro from the airport...only 30 minutes and one dollar! Opera lovers must visit the Boris Christoff Museum, just a 3 minute walk from Vitosha Boulevard. I hope to go back someday and see more of this undeservedly little known country.

Nice video!!! Very funny when you told the painting sellers "Second day in Sofia!" and just he nodded just I thought: "Tan expresivos ellos" in English: they are so expressive!!!. He reminded me a former Spanish student who was from Bulgaria and used to be like the seller...I suppose it's part of their culture...
9:38 I paid 70€/night in Sofia (double room in Hotel Maria Luisa) a bit expensive for Bulgaria, but very well located. Out of Sofia, the average I paid per nigth was around 35€. Overall I found the country very affordable, and I am Spanish. For you, being American, it must be dirt cheap.

Hello Gabriel , you've hit the National Holiday (Liberation day actually) , so that's why Sofia looks so empty (yes this looks empty , even strangely calm ^^). Maybe 70% of people in Sofia are out of it for the holidays. Normally Vitoshka (the big street without car traffic on it) is literally FULL of people 'till at least midnight. So happy to see you exploring and making videos about my country, I was earlier hooked by your videos from India and your visit here is such a delightful surprise. Are you planning on visiting Plovdiv while you're here? A subscriber meet up perhaps, if there are any fellow bulgarian viewers of course?
Those were roasted red bell peppers next to the lovely fresh strawberries. Eastern Europeans love their roasted bell peppers. In Bulgaria and elsewhere in the East they love to stuff them with rice and meat. I believe Bulgarians love to make their own private stock of fruit- flavoured Brandy. They are proud and excited to serve their guests their own "home-made" Brandy at dinner parties.
no this is not an eastern european thing. they do not do it in poland, russia, the baltic countries. more like a southern european and balkan thing to roast peppers. in bulgaria we do not roast bell peppers but other kind of peppers and we have a larger variety of peppers than most countries. home-made liqueur is popular in many countries but in the balkans it is almost a religion
The graphite is not a queen, its Saint Sofia, after which the city is named. The 5 lv. fee you paid in St. Nedeliya church is not for entering, it’s for filming.
That graffiti you guessed was a queen is actually Saint Sofia, the patron saint of the city. Her statue is located right across the place you had lunch at, above the Metro station, on a tall pedestal.
Gabriel were you singing along with the bag piper? If you were I am glad you were. Many yrs ago I head that song sang at the meadowland stadium, NJ during president Carter' s mother speech. I was taken by it when I heard that song by 90,000 people, it was heavenly. To me it remains the most beautiful of all the beautiful songs in Christendom . The message is sublime.
Mykonos and a couple more places are the tourists party land. Everything is 2-3 times more expensive compared to the rest of Greece. Specially during the high summer season. (Example 1 typical glass of wine averages ~4-6e max in Athens not 10 as mentioned)
thats Bulgarian bagpipe bro, we have few styles of that instrument, he plays on kaba-bagpipe from the region of Pirin mauntin wich is in Bulgaria (write a 100 kabagaida in the search and listen that piece of art) and one of the other bagpipes we have is from trakia region :)
@@tazzz1783 thx for the info Tazzz so,they are Bulgarian pipes, not Macedonian? and from the Pirin Mountains, which of course ,i`m aware,Bulgaria. I will on your recommendation , look further into these pipes
Oh, FCS! Half my ancestry is from geographical region of Macedonia. 100 years ago around WWI and Balkan Wars they were expelled by the Greeks and Serbs. Around 750000 people at that time in 3 million Bulgaria. I even have a cousins in Skopje, descendants of the brother of my grand grandfather. Now they are Macedonians, and I'm Bulgarian. That's why Greeks insist that Alexander the Great was Greek, and North Macedonia is Slavonic, along with 300000+ people expelled from Northern Greece region of Macedonia a century ago. Funny enough they all came in Bulgaria, not in Serbia/Yugoslavia. A century ago, 90% of Slav population in the geographical region of Macedonia was identifying itself as Bulgarians. Btw, in Bulgaria the bagpipe is played mainly in Rhodopes. And that's not part of geographical region of Macedonia. 100 kabagaida is from Rhodopes.
Haha I took a pictures of some of this street art from the times I parked here back in 2015/2016. I miss this place but I’m back in Texas. It looks like construction around the excavation has improved since I was there.
Sofia like most capitals will be a lot more expensive than elsewhere...love Bulgaria there's so many GRT towns, cities and villages if you like the French alpine vibe but a lot cheaper of course then ribarista is the place to go... Elena town and all that area looks amazing GRT for hiking or biking...
Been many times to Sofia and other parts of Bulgaria as a kid (half bulgarian, mothers side of family). The question wouldn't be what places have you visited in the world but rather what places haven't you visited? lol
That was an awesome grilled pork chop with fries and a big glass of lovely red wine and you say the whole meal with a customary 10% tip amounted to $14.00.....what a bargain and it looked so appetizing. Love the way you film your meals, Gabriel, and then tell us how much everything costs. Just one of the reasons why I enjoy your amazing travel videos so much...very informative, creative and entertaining.....Great Work, my friend!
0:40 funny... not two weeks ago, I have been sitting in that cafeteria, in the exact table where the guy is staring at his phone. It is located very close to the serdika metro station, right in the center of Sofia. The girl who attended me was very nice, but she charged me the "tourist price". Nevermind.

Gogo Games bg аз съм от софия
Като си от Ямбол да се беше научил да пишеш на бг 🙂
Поздрави от Русе!
That was the prettiest smoothie I've ever seen.
Beauty. Bang on as usual. Great music as well . 😊
So happy to see you exploring and making videos about my country, I was earlier hooked by your videos from India and your visit here is such a delightful surprise. Are you planning on visiting Plovdiv while you're here? A subscriber meet up perhaps, if there are any fellow bulgarian viewers of course?
Is it safe to visit Bulgaria?
Pankaj Singh dude, it's European Union country, my bet it's safer than 80% of the rest world
absolutely ;)
After watching your video on Varna, I booked for September, I'm quite looking forward to it too
Excellent.
This Is very intresting about bulgaria, fantastic country and lovley people.
Just recently subscribed and enjoying your travels. Keep traveling! Thanks!
Cool, thanks.
Nice video! Come back in the summer next time. I'd love to see another video from Sofia :)
I see, that makes sense.
Quite correct ;)
no this is not an eastern european thing. they do not do it in poland, russia, the baltic countries. more like a southern european and balkan thing to roast peppers. in bulgaria we do not roast bell peppers but other kind of peppers and we have a larger variety of peppers than most countries. home-made liqueur is popular in many countries but in the balkans it is almost a religion
The graphite is not a queen, its Saint Sofia, after which the city is named. The 5 lv. fee you paid in St. Nedeliya church is not for entering, it’s for filming.
Thank you that was really helpful and informative. Happy traveling
Nice.. I was in Bulgaria few years back but didn't have a chance to explore Sofia.
So cool. Excellent video Gabriel.
That graffiti you guessed was a queen is actually Saint Sofia, the patron saint of the city. Her statue is located right across the place you had lunch at, above the Metro station, on a tall pedestal.
I see, thanks.
We have a very similar walking street In Norway!
Hi, great video. About St. Nedelya church - the fee was not about entry, but about bringing the camera in and filming, I guess. :)))
i have a feeling you will visit Romania next. You will not regret it.
Where in Romania is the best to visit? We would love to visit! Hopefully we'll go this year.
Mykonos and a couple more places are the tourists party land. Everything is 2-3 times more expensive compared to the rest of Greece. Specially during the high summer season. (Example 1 typical glass of wine averages ~4-6e max in Athens not 10 as mentioned)
True. Did I mention Greece in this video? I forget.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Gabriel I like your answer :)
15 MIN ,the piper playing the Macedonian pipes,i remember him from when i was in Sofia ,if i recall, 2015 ?
thats Bulgarian bagpipe bro, we have few styles of that instrument, he plays on kaba-bagpipe from the region of Pirin mauntin wich is in Bulgaria (write a 100 kabagaida in the search and listen that piece of art) and one of the other bagpipes we have is from trakia region :)
@@tazzz1783 thx for the info Tazzz so,they are Bulgarian pipes, not Macedonian? and from the Pirin Mountains, which of course ,i`m aware,Bulgaria. I will on your recommendation , look further into these pipes
@@tazzz1783 just looked it up on youtube, my friend you are right, such astonishing and emotional music i feel comfortable and,yet familiar with
The bagpipist was adorable
Haha I took a pictures of some of this street art from the times I parked here back in 2015/2016. I miss this place but I’m back in Texas. It looks like construction around the excavation has improved since I was there.
14:25 sweet ! What a great experience !
Thanks for this awesome tour.
The question wouldn't be what places have you visited in the world but rather what places haven't you visited? lol
Loved the vlog..Just found you a couple weeks ago. Glad I did! Safe travels :)
17:15 the orange booth right there sells baked pumpkins, you should try it, it's delicious
I am your recent fan for India, Mumbai. Your video on Bulgaria was good. I liked it. Also give your tips on climate ° & best season. Thanks.
0:40 funny... not two weeks ago, I have been sitting in that cafeteria, in the exact table where the guy is staring at his phone. It is located very close to the serdika metro station, right in the center of Sofia. The girl who attended me was very nice, but she charged me the "tourist price". Nevermind.
@vfxardist 2x (or 3x) the price they would charge to locals
@vfxardist charging more to tourists is commonplace in lots of countries, whether is legal or not I don't know.
