  • I am just too curious about what a hexagonal drum will sound like compared to the pentagonal drums, so I start making one. Including the 120 degree angle jigs.

Having watched a number of videos of glue ups of, typically, 4 sided boxes, I have seen painters tape used as a clamp. Lay all the pieces short side to the table. Tape all the sides together with one or two long strip/s. Flip the taped assembly over. Add glue to the bevels and then wrap it up and tape it together. To avoid glue sticking to other parts like your forms, packing tape is used. On a recent video I saw the foam pipe insulation that comes in like 8' lengths used to hold the glued up boards away from the pipe based clamps. A benefit is the wood glue that he uses (tightbond?) just peels off after it dries.

yes, i've used the tape technique many times. it works well for thicker-sided shapes, smaller numbers of sides, and when it isn't critical that you have a very exact angle (or use a base or tool to ensure that it's square). none of those are true for this project.
