It's not always easy to tell from old films - even one as good as this. But Driscoll looks really sharp here - as expected. What surprised me was how much power he shows. He may have been a defensive master but he could certainly punch his weight too. That's often not the case with great defensive fighters.
The referee controlled the bout from outside the ring. Nice to see that unlike most of the heavyweights of that era, some lighter weight boxers actually threw punches in combinations and didn't just rush together and bang to the body in close.
This was great to see, thanks. They were hard times and he was great in his day. My great grandmother Elizabeth Driscall who then married a Henley from the Bristol area was related to the great jimmy Discall. The Driscoll's are all originally from cork, Ireland.
Jim Driscoll is an alltime British legend, along with Jimmy Wilde, Jack kid Berg, Ted kid Lewis they are the cream de la cream. I"d love to see Jim"s statue in Cardiff one day, & the 3 statues in Merthyr. The South Welsh have a great history in boxing, very tough men. You must be very proud of your connection to the great man, I know I would be!
I am also related to this dude. My family is from bristol. My grans side are the Driscolls and I have and original photo of him doing his boxing pose. I think he was my grans uncle or something like that. Seems like everyone is related to him in some sort of way. ( randy Driscolls eh )
Can any body tell me what number house jim Driscoll lived in? I am asking this question because my house is the last surviving house of Ellen Street, Old Newtown, All the other houses were abolished in 1966 i think. I have always wondered if he lived, or even visited my house.
