I don't buy souvenirs but I will buy a bar of soap to remind me of my travels. I bought lavendar soap in France, olive oil soap in Greece, lemon soap in Southern Italy, ect. Then when i use them it reminds me of great times
I love that idea! And I love a cute or good smelling soap! When we were in Italy we bought some lemonciello (not sure how to spell that) from a local family owned producer we are waiting on a special day to drink it 😍
My husband has probably 3-400 books from his University days, 30 years ago! I’ve tried encouraging him to go thru them and keep like 50 of his favourites. In the 17 years we’ve been together I have seen him pick up just one of those books to look at lol. His identity is tied up in those books & he was proud of those years. Anyway, he recently decluttered a bunch of old photos, so I was proud of him for accomplishing that.
that’s great he’s starting 😍👏 my husband loves everything tools and wood 🤣 he recently got rid of some of his wood pile and cleaned the shed! He even said he felt better especially now that he can work in the shed again!! 👏 my husband isn’t a minimalist either but he does like and acknowledges that less is better
For years my husband wouldn't get rid of ANY books including his masters of theology books. Finally, one day he was ready and we gave several boxes of books to one of his professors.
I agree with you on a lot of these. Especially throw pillows for the bed & mini blinds. I'm at a stage of life where I want to simplify anything that I can. ❤
I don't think I've ever left a comment on your channel yet, but I wanted to thank you for all your helpful videos You remind me that it is OK to not have a ton of stuff, when everyone around me has so much. It's hard to not get sucked into the mindset that you need all the things and tons of clothes. You are so encouraging, thank you!!!
Getting rid of my dresser and all bulky furniture was the best thing I did! I just had a bedroom set because that’s “what adults are supposed to have.” So much more room and less stuff ❤
Love this video!! Last year I donated all of my vases, I kept my favorite one. My husband knows exactly where it is so if he wants to surprise me with flowers, he takes it to our local florist.
TOTALLY agree with all of these!!!! No vases, books, decorative pillows, hairdryer, heels, liquid detergent, souvenirs, or zip lock bags. We have a dishwasher but it’s just my husband and me so I hand wash. I wish we didn’t have a TV, but my husband watches it while I go to sleep 😂. I also have reusable “baggies” and love them. They are easy to use and to clean!! Great list!!!❤ *I don’t see the link for the detergent you use. I am interested in knowing which one you have tried. I use Earth Breeze and really like them.
Just ordered the laundry soap sheets. I've been wanting to try these since I first heard about them. Thanks for the recommendation. I always recycle my plastic laundry jug, but this has to be much better for the environment. And actually more convenient too.
Hi, brand new to your channel. I am tall so I stopped wearing heels 15 years ago. I don't go out anymore, so flats are my best. I got rid of a whole heap of shelves, they were clutter and book catchers.
♥ These were some great suggestions overall and I appreciate hearing about environmentally friendly options. I won't be repurchasing laundry sheets or microfiber cloths because of the plastic that they can leave in our waterways. If a laundry sheet is invented with something better than polyvinyl alcohol like bioplastics, I'd use them but I'll probably get eco-refills of my Attitude liquid laundry detergent in the meantime. It's very unlikely that my partner would be willing to switch to a shampoo bar (or even bar soap instead of liquid body wash) so I'll just continue to use the same products to keep the number of items in the shower to a minimum. However, the best and easiest thing we can all do is to stop overbuying (clothing, etc.) and to minimize food waste.
Thanks for sharing all your ideas! My husband had a shampoo bar he liked but when it ran out around Christmas I believe he got gifted shampoo and soap in bottles so he’s using those up. I’ll have to ask him if he would use the shampoo bar again I think he liked the one I got for his hair. Unfortunately, we don’t want to use the same bar because our hair is so different (mine is very dry and his is very oily) thanks as always for sharing your ideas with us ❤️❤️
@@minimalease thankyou...I've learnt it's not worth having books for the sake of it. I found it very overwhelming and lost my enjoyment of reading. Now with a significantly reduced amount, I enjoy reading again.
I only use our dishwasher on weekends if we are really busy doing home renovations or doing yard work and I don't have time to stop and wash the dishes. The most it gets used is maybe 8 times a month.
I’m not a fan of buying souvenirs on vacation either, however I do buy one Christmas ornament on each trip. Our tree is full of ornaments from all of our trips. It’s so much fun to reminisce each year when decorating our tree❤️
I’m gradually decluttering books and now my husband is too. I would love to get rid of the dishwasher. It was here when we moved in but we never use it and if the kitchen is redone it will go. We don’t have bedroom tv either, just one in the sitting room and I hardly ever watch it. I don’t use that room very often although my husband does. I only have one sofa pillow on each sofa. My husband sometimes gets books from the exchange box in the town near where we live. I have quite a few art books and jewellery making books but I swap and gift them to friends who have the same interests. I also use a shampoo bar too that comes in paper packets.
The only problem with getting books from the library is that you’re not financially supporting the author. Authors don’t make a lot of money (unless you’re Steven King), so buying new books matters.
Yay! No tellie in the bedroom! Not for my husband and me, not for the kids until they are 18. But nowadays the kids already have their mobile phones and laptops to watch their favorite shows. We allow them their devices until bedtime until 18. Between 16 and 18 yo on Fridays and Saturdays they can keep those wrecked things... But they will put them downstairs on schooldays. Works for us.
We've raised 3 children and we've never had more than one TV in our home. And this was before you could stream shows on a phone or computer. TV watching was a family activity.
❤Don't have an ottoman, dresser, big suitcase, and rarely buy anything I don't need. In the future plan to travel in a van and will buy those laundry sheets (unscented). Haven't tried them as I still have liquid to use up.
I don’t own a clothes dryer. Mine broke and I decided to see if I could get by without one. That was 2 years ago. Since then I hang up everything to dry and have not missed it. I don’t own a conventional bed. I sleep on a tatami mat and Japanese futon. This is very good for my back. I don’t use a dish washer. There is one in my apt, but it doesn’t work and I don’t like them anyway. I don’t have enough dishes to not quickly wash by hand because I would need them before filling up a dishwasher. I don’t own a dresser either. I simply have a little two drawer thing that I think is a side table, but I found it at the dumpster in my apt complex and it’s beautiful. It fits into my closet and that’s what I use for my underwear and socks storage. I don’t own a kitchen table or chairs. We just have stools at the bar and we sit there to eat. I don’t own make-up, don’t like it. Don’t own heels, don’t like those either. Don’t use a hair dryer. It’s in the declutter pile after I realized it was still here 😂. I use laundry sheets too, Earth Breeze brand. I’ll have to give the ones you use a try for comparison. I don’t use shampoo and conditioner anymore, just an organic coconut soap for face, body, hair and everything.
Hmm, I tried to comment but it disappeared. I got the coconut soap off Amazon. It is a brand called Organic Fiji. I learned about it from another minimalist You Tuber. Her channel is Exploravore. You should check it out. I have hair that looks like yours. I’m a blondie with wavy hair. I can use it without conditioner and just let my hair dry naturally. It gives a nice texture. Love your channel btw ❤
My husband just brought me flowers that I put in a beautiful pitcher by the sink, how ironic is that? 😆 I haven’t used a dishwasher for about 4 years now and I’ll never go back! I do own a blow dryer but I’m a hairstylist and own a salon. I’m definitely going to see if I can find a bar shampoo to offer because the plastic bottle drive me crazy. Everything else you mentioned, same for me!
When I was a teenager I didn't have a dresser and if it was just me then I still wouldn't have one but my husband likes having one. I tried doing away with a dresser in my two teenager's room but then they would never keep their clothes put up. They would just throw them anywhere and then when you make them clean their room they would say all the clothes were dirty and needed to be washed all because they never put them up.
I agree, I regift also and I feel like it spreads the love around. Though I appreciate everything I’m given I also feel I can find the best home for the item once it’s in my possession 😍❤️❤️
Really liked the list and what people have shared. I’ve recently come across your channel and subbed - I’ve admired the bedroom side tables and have thought I’d like to give it a go. Is the design basically a box attached to a board attached to the wall?? Thank you for sharing your ideas, time, and talents!
Yes! Reasonably simple to make he used pocket holes to connect the wood so you don’t see the screws. I love how simple it is and makes me declutter it often because there are no areas to hide clutter 👏😍
No televisión, microwave or clothes dryer. The dishwasher is broken so I use it for a drainer. No paper plates, paper towels, plastic cups, trash bags. No pancake mix or pancake syrup; pancakes are simple with only five ingredients and deserve real honey or maple syrup. No polyester clothes or linens.
That sounds great for so many people! I’m an avid gardener and love getting my hands dirty so I enjoy ours but I can see that would be so beneficial for many people ❤️❤️❤️

I always buy a small perfume for each country i visit and even 20 years later when i smell it the memories flood back

Me too! My husband is a biblical scholar and we have floor to ceiling shelves full of books, It is lovely to look at though, academia style.

I’ve been using a mason jar for a Vase as i have grandsons that like to bring me flowers birthdays, mothers Day, valentines day, Easter etc.
Whenever I’m in NYC I buy souvenir socks. When they wear out I’m ready for another vacation. ❤
Hahah I love this 🤗
I dont have any vases either, i have a pitcher and mason jars. As i get flowers from my husband and grandkids.
No paper towels either.❤
Thanks so much for sharing!❤️
We use our dishwasher to store snacks for the grandkids. We hand wash our dishes.
