Yet it does not touch you. It leaves one cold. MK's spiral, on the other hand, not only had superior edge quality, ice coverage, speed, but more importantly was done with wonderful heart and emotion.
Still don't understand how her program components were always on the lower end. I think she mastered this aspect. She will still always be the most prolific female figure skater for millions
Sasha, There Will NEVER Be Another Skater Like YOU! YOU Are Truly Missed. It's Thanks To A Couple Of Skating Commentators During The Time You Were Performing That Took You Away From Competition. Since You Left, We Have Maybe Had A Couple, MAYBE, That Were Your Equal. I Love Watching You Skate. As Scottie Said, "WHAT A PERFORMANCE. Please Teach Others How To Skate. Now Back To Watching You Skate.
This one brings me smiles and tears and jumping out of my seat every time. I felt then and now that the moonlight sonata program was the undoing it was too quiet too subtle and gave her too much time to doubt. Her fiery fast short programs she always killed because she attacked.
I’ll never understand this comment. Such a short career and was a bad jumper but the best skater of all time? Yea okay. I believe Kwan would have something to say about that. People look at that WOW of her flexibility and think that equals greatness. I personally found her artistically FLAT. She never had the ability to PULL you into a program like a Kwan.
I still come back to this from time to time. Still gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes. Sasha is forever my favorite skater. One of her best performances. I’m not sure what was holding her back on her jumps over the years, but I know she gave her all. The spiral sequence and footwork in this routine are perfect. Thanks so much for the video!
You keep going everywhere making the same comments and the entire commentary has the answer but yet you still try to discredit Sasha by comparing her to Michelle. Don't you have eyes, read the comments, and hear the broadcast commentator about her being the best in this. Quit the negative campaign. If Michelle influenced Sasha, why has Michelle herself never displayed the level of exquisite lines, spins, and spirals Sasha was known for? Give us a break@@TT-ee4qp
If only I had an ounce of her flexibility! Her spins are just marvelous. Not only did she have the stretch, but the positioning and control she had was breathtaking. She really would make for an awesome spin coach.
I wish that they would bring back these spiral sequences and the layback spins. I hope that we will see real skating like this again and not little girls like we do today.
I love this program. I’m a Yuna Kim Fan but Sasha Cohen is a one of a kind skater. She has her own style and her musicality is perfection. Figure Skating died a long time ago. Yuna Kim in 2014 was the last time I actually enjoyed a program.
I don’t know if she wants but I’d love her to coach new skaters and help them being more artistic and their positions. I know if I was a skater I’d choose her as my coach
To me shes one of the greatest female figure skaters ever! I have seen sasha a few times at a specific ice rink in New York city ..she would do some stretches before getting on the ice ...but to my disappointment shes not friendly..and a little bit arrogant.
Just to be clear, her artistic score was 30.37. So since the women are factored by .8 in the short, that means her AVERAGE mark in components was 7.5???!!?! Is that right!?!?! (40 is perfect, 36 is 9.0 average, 32 is 8.0 average, yes??) If so, that's RIDICULOUS.
Brent's Lucky (& Gay) Slot Channel PCS doesn't just apply to performance and interpretation. There are other factors that are taken into consideration such as skating skills and transitions which are more on the technical side of things
No, I looked at her protocols from this. She averaged 7's on ALL FIVE Program Component categories. She was scored basically even with Mirai Nagasu (in 2010) and Rachel Flatt in terms of artistry. GIVE ME A FLIPPING BREAK.
Brent's Lucky Slot Channel Well the US judges basically pick who they want, as we saw this year with Ashley's absurdly low scores that Karen's inflated PCS was able to squeak by (don't get me started on Bradie's PCS). With three strong Ladies on the GPS and only two US slots for Vancouver, it made sense that they'd prefer to send Rachael, Mirai, and/or Ashley -- i.e., up-and-comers with recent bodies-of-work to draw upon -- over Sasha. As Scott and Sandra lamented after Sasha's disastrous FS, she should have competed that whole Fall 2009, rather than just appear at Nationals after four years away from competition.
@@queenmaoasada8447 n I realize I'm late responding to this, but Sasha, even with that FS, has STAR POWER, and can win over an International panel of judges. Rachael Flatt? gimme a break. WHO?!?! LOL.
I love sasha, she is an all time fav of mine but her routines are all so alike. Her artistic is amazing but I've seen her spiral, same spins, she had the potential to try other artistic things.
Agree. It was always the same exact content, just in different orders in each program. She was great but it seems she could have had a little more diversity in her programs, given the extent of her talent and capability.
I truly wish she made to 2010 Olympics like omg this short program would have ate the other girls up with this performance. I would would’ve have Sasha and Mirai over Rachel, just sayin.
Jules Mekler -She is definitely not a healthy weight, that's for sure. Don't know whether she's anorexic, but she obviously doesn't eat enough to have any body fat.
Complicate Democratize Channel "You know nothing about the illness." Why do strangers on the Internet presume to know your personal knowledge/experience? And you're WRONG, BTW.
Queen Mao Asada anorexia is a mental illness and an eating disorder. It's terrible and far too common in the skating world, but based on what I know of Sasha she doesn't appear to have had any struggle with food. I think it was more just a byproduct of practice and bit having the time to eat as much as she would if she weren't training as opposed to deliberate malnourishment. I hope that's the case, at least, but she seems to have gotten to a healthier weight post-training as far as I know
Incredibly lovely program. But I hate the Bielman variation at end of the lay back. I wish skaters would stop doing the Bielman variation as it looks ungainly and unattractive.
vistaprime She couldn't because she was injured. The same thing happened to Michelle Kwan when she tried to come back for the 2006 Olympics, but she was even injured for Nationals.
I miss when figure skaters held long spiral sequences like Michelle Kwan, Sarah Hughes and Sasha Cohen
Mandi Lu Why Why Why did they cut out the spirals?!?!? I will never understand
to make more time for jumps
The spiral sequence should be given a lot more points so we can see more of them!
Me too....... Me too
Personally, I feel like the last skater to hold a long spiral sequence recently would be Mao Asada
Her extension, flexibility, and class are just otherworldly. Her spiral sequence is matched by no one and my jaw dropped during that split leap.
Надо смотреть Русское фигурное катание
@stephanie9089 I completely agree with you! Sasha was special ❤
That spiral sequence leaves me speechless every time I see it.
Yet it does not touch you. It leaves one cold. MK's spiral, on the other hand, not only had superior edge quality, ice coverage, speed, but more importantly was done with wonderful heart and emotion.
Qacc6 Yes, however in terms of line, stretch and flexibility, Sasha has Michelle beat.
but troy, spirals are not about flexibility or stretch, they are about edges. and Sashas spirals almost always done on an improper edge.
Troy Turner there just not gonna let you live
@@tmott8870 They are about all those things. They are certainly about flexability and stretch, as well as edges and flow.
She skated the hell out of this music. Damn. I miss programs like this!!
Exactly 💯
Bravo Sasha, You changed figure skating forever and will never be forgotten
Absolutely agree
Still don't understand how her program components were always on the lower end. I think she mastered this aspect.

This is being one with the program. Truly historical. One of the strongest interpretations of a paso doble on ice.
My fav skater ever! Her artistry is out of this world!
Love the deep knee bend that she does to the music at 3:11. She is the master of music and choreography in her programs and routines.
Best spiral sequence ever!! That split jump, just WOW 🤩
I know omg!!
Superhuman! ❤
Her spins were INCREDIBLE!
Irina made a better spins.

I came back to this video after watching the 2023 nationals. I needed to see this level of artistry, so missed nowadays!
Bravo Sasha for your beautiful performance. And for skating our spanish music. I'm so proud.

She has this thing where her lips don't match her eyes. I'm not dissing her, she's mysterious to me - generally a positive connotation.
Insane!! I just saw her on Neil DeGrasse star talk interview ❤️👌🏾
