This film is in tribute to Ray Porthen, an employee of J-Rod & Custom, who passed away suddenly while in the shop during the process of making this video. The Shooting Brake is one of the most beautiful body shapes, and rare.

Next on Unsolved Mysteries - why is the SEMA show always the NEXT DAY? LOL. Fantastic job on the wagon! Truly one of the most unique and tasteful resto-mods I have seen in a long time, and I happen to be a card-carrying BMW CCA BMW car owner. Two thumbs up on this one. This is a car I wouldn't mind at all seeing get imitated (but never duplicated) elsewhere!

I like that you got bigger front doors. I've seen many custom jobs where a four door had been converted to two door without pushing back the b pillar, which makes the short front doors look odd.

yes, suspension geometry is very different to M3, caster 1.5deg on iX, 9deg on M3

I _do_ like it but... *"full M3 wagon"* how exactly - because of some bodywork (yeah, 'cos that's all they changed)? Does it have M3 suspension, brakes (both different to regular E30)? Any part of the drivetrain - certainly not the engine: _which_ V8 - is it even a BMW, let alone a (later) M? For something called the detail wagen, you don't seem to go into any...
Yeah I agree. It's a modified E30 wagon that has SOME M3 parts. Full M3 wagon is so misleading.
@@SteezyG Don't get me wrong, this _is_ as cool AF (the two door estate is a body style sadly long since out of fashion) but can't believe the only M3 parts referenced (rear arches) were critical into making it the legend it is, so why go there? If you really must, call it an M3 tribute / homage / phantom
Great car, the factory built a prototype E30? M3 estate car-wagon, in 5 door form, never made it to production. They recently announced an estate on the new M3 platform.

They’re OEM BMW parts, anything that was still available new we purchased from BMW. A few parts that were no longer available were purchased used.
Definitely not the world's first, I Saw an M3 2 door touring built 20 years ago here in Leicester England.

how mutch does this tipe of custom job cost? not including the engine..
Of man, it will very greatly depending on a lot of variables but if you're planning to pay someone for all the fabrication, paint work, etc. then the labor can add up quickly.

It's nice but it has been done with the v10 which imo is way nicer and more difficult to do seeing the engine bay is pretty snug.

Custom cars are super cool, but I would be so afraid to drive it, because if someone hits the car you can't just replace the fender, you have to MAKE a new one
Fortunately all the body panels on this car are original M3 parts, even the rear quarters.

A dream conversion. Madness. But the rims don't fit this car at all. You need 3-piece BBS RS rims with gold spokes. Then it's perfect!
