    Thanks for making a video. Question: If I have an ISRC code assigned to a song and it's registered to say Tunecore, and I make a music video to play it on RUclips, wouldn't I get a royalty for just the song being played? The pictures in the video are only there to play the music. I used Movie Maker to add the songs. Will the IRSC in the song be tracked when the video plays?

    • @carterbryantbanks

      @@marcelogiaccardi Follow-up question: is the video code essentially a customized variation of the original audio ISRC or does there need to be a completely separate ISRC code assigned to the video? I ask this because it doesn't make sense to me why the same song would need two separate ISRCs as the song is what we I'd like to track listens, views, plays etc. not the video and then the song separately. The reason I'd upload the music video would be to promote the song right? Any insight on this would be much appreciated :)

    • @marcelogiaccardi
      @marcelogiaccardi 2 года назад

      @@carterbryantbanks hi Carter, honestly I don´t know "why" but thats the way it is. Anyway, at least talking about RUclips, the platform doesn´t care about ISRC embebed in the file until you reach the "partner program requirements" (1000 suscribers and 4000 hours of reproduction in the last year)... so, worrying about embeding the ISRC codes inside the video files is futile until you reach that point. Once you reach the requirements you will be able to fill the metadata for the video on the RUclips Studio section, I guess. Regarding your questions: First, NO, ISRC for video and audio are completely separated codes. At least in my country you are asiggned as a producer with an audio former code and a completely different video former code. For example, for audio AR-J7A-22-00002 where the two first letters desing the country origin, the other trhee letter desing your exclusive audio producer code, the first two number the year, and the next 5 numbers are used for the registrys for that year. The video producer code for the same person or company could be like this: AR-XTF-22-90004. About the second question, what about a video that has manny songs, or better, a video with a song that has an introduction that make a huge difference between the original audio track, and the actual video audio track? I guess that's one "why" regarding the music environment at least. I hope it could be useful for you this information

    Thanks for this helpful video. I believe, however, that there is a problem with what you have said, and the problem first appears in your video at 3m 11s. The metadata is NOT embedded in the output .MP4 file. It is saved into an XMP sidecar file. As far as I can see, Premiere Pro will not allow the metadata to be embedded into an .MP4 file. Given that the metadata is saved in an XMP sidecar file, we need some way of (later) incorporating that data into the playable .MP4 file. The data in the sidecar file will not automatically "go along" with the .MP4 file when that .MP$ file is uploaded to RUclips or transmitted by any other means.
    Is that not so?

    • @thefalconeers3064
      @thefalconeers3064 5 лет назад

      Ah ha! No...it is NOT so! I exported my .MP4 media file from Premiere. The Metadata tagger gave me no option but to embed the data in a sidecar file. After the .MP4 was generated, I could find no sidecar file in the destination folder for the .MP4.
      Next, I imported the MP4 into Premiere Pro and inspected its metadata tags. All of the metadata was indeed 'embedded' into the MP4 file....CONTRARY to the impression that Premiere Pro's export metadata tagger feature had implied.
      I'm happy. THANK YOU! :-) PS: Not so happy with the intuitiveness or accuracy of Adobe's metadata tagger ialogue panel.

    Dear CRFTSHO, fantastic video. Very helpful but it leaves me with some questions and decisions to make.
    I am an unsigned artist. I had a full length CD mastered 3 years ago and I didn't have an ISRC code embedded within my album. My plan has been to promote several of the songs from the CD one at a time with music videos.
    I really didn't even understand the consequence of having an ISRC code embedded into my songs until today. And only from your particular video did I learn that I also need to have a separate code a music video. But I'm still unsure if SoundExchange or BMI will be looking to collect royalties from my videos if I sign up with them? Maybe it depends on where they are played? As an artist without much of a fan base yet, having music videos seems essential to get people to listen.
    I understand that I can pay a publishing service to do much of this work, but I do not yet have anyone working for me. Yours is the first video that has explained how I can embed the ISRC code into a video myself and that has me thinking and provokes more questions.
    ISRC codes have not been embedded into my music videos and I have already posted some of them to my Facebook music page and invested time and money into promoting there. I also published at RUclips and have views on them there as well.
    Questions:
    1. Do I need to embed an ISCR code before I register with Sound Exchange?
    2. Do I need a code for each audio file (song) or is a code for the album enough to protect me if I release individual videos to promote each song?
    3. I assume that I need to use a service like usisrc.org or Tunecore to create ISRC codes? Can I generate them myself for free somehow and then report the number and embed them in my videos like you described? I'm guessing not.
    4. Should I delete the videos I already have on Facebook and RUclips and render them again with an embedded ISCR code if I ever hope to earn money from these songs, or is there a work around to edit those videos with these codes? Or should I simply embed the code(s) into these songs for other arena's of distribution? Any thoughts?
    5. Is a QR code (which I understand as different than an ISCR code) only necessary for tracking a physical product like a CD sold from a store?
    6. Is there any way to collect royalties or get credited for number of spins from a music video uploaded and promoted directly on Facebook?
    7. If I upload a video directly to Facebook, do they have any legal rights to use my video?

    • @CRFTSHO
      @CRFTSHO  6 лет назад +1

      So I'm not a Music IP attorney so I'll answer these the best I can, but I'd always advise you to find a good entertainment attorney as well.
      Questions:
      1. Do I need to embed an ISCR code before I register with Sound Exchange?
      My understanding is YES. You have to have the ISRC codes embedded into the MASTER of your recording. Basically they give you a unique code with a run of numbers - which you assign and update accordingly
      2. Do I need a code for each audio file (song) or is a code for the album enough to protect me if I release individual videos to promote each song?
      My understanding from research suggests EACH song and EACH video needs a unique ISRC code.
      3. I assume that I need to use a service like usisrc.org or Tunecore to create ISRC codes? Can I generate them myself for free somehow and then report the number and embed them in my videos like you described? I'm guessing not.
      You need the registry to help track them - think of it like a patent.
      What most have told me is NO. You leave them up - but you can do a few things like RE-issue them with the ISRC - no reason to lose any momentum.
      5. Is a QR code (which I understand as different than an ISCR code) only necessary for tracking a physical product like a CD sold from a store?
      Correct - I think I mispoke a couple of times calling the ISRC code a QR code.
      6. Is there any way to collect royalties or get credited for number of spins from a music video uploaded and promoted directly on Facebook?
      I don't know that unfortunately, but I don't believe FB pays royalties.
      7. If I upload a video directly to Facebook, do they have any legal rights to use my video?
      DEFINITELY consult with an entertainment attorney. I have one that I love - she is awesome. If you want me to introduce you shoot me an email - drew@crftsho.com
      LASTLY - I wanna hear your stuff :) Have you looked at trying to get it listed with a music royalty service like Artlist.io or one of those?

    • @PapaMuse
      @PapaMuse 6 лет назад

      Hello Drew. Sorry to take so long to respond. Thank you very much for answering my questions to the best of your knowledge. I started taking a 6-month online seminar called the Artist Success Circle that is teaching me how to prioritize and navigate through the music business and I've been buried in new tools and tasks.
      I believe the best option for me at this time is to join CD Baby and have them do some of these things for me. Simply because I'm trying to wear too many hats. And I don't know that I should make self-publishing one of them at this stage of my career.
      Also, the only royalty services (performing rights organizations) that I was aware of were the big ones, BMI, ASCP, and SESAC. I looked at Artlist website that you recommended and it seems like they are geared for film makers to find music and they charge $199 a year. Is that the price to have your music included in their catalog as well? If you don't know I can email them.
      Also I didn't understand what you meant by Re-issue the RUclips and Facebook video? I tried to Google search that and I couldn't find anything about if that was possible. I've never seen that option before. Does your comment above imply that you can swap one video out for another newer version?
      Also here is a link to my videos on my RUclips channel. I don't have many yet. I do have more audio files at my Bandcamp page (papamuse.bandcamp.com/) if you enjoy whats here. Thank you for taking interest. Meaning Makers is my latest video and the title track from my album. We worked very hard on it. ruclips.net/user/papamuse

    I am embedding tags in my music videos using Final Cut Pro X. My options for this are different than Premier. The fields are: Title, Description Creator, Tags. For Description, I'm showing Artist: Eric Schuurman - Album: Music From Another Life - Song: Autumn '85. I think this would be parsed as a single long tag. Would I be better off doing this: Artist: Eric Schuurman, Album: Music From Another Life, Song: Autumn '85. I think the comma separator would have this parsed as 3 separate tags. In your opinion, which is the better approach? Also, I want to embed my ISRC code in the Tags field. Which of the following approaches for this would be better: USHHB1700073 or ISRC:USHHB1700073? Hello. I'm working with FCPX. I've just finished my first original song. I had it mastered and used this mp3 in my video. After all that, I heard you still have to embed another ISRC code in the video. Only problem is, I really don't get how I should do this. In one of the comments below I read that you have to put the code in a tag? Is that the only place where you have to embed the ISRC code?

    • @CRFTSHO

      +Eszter V it's actually all in the video as well. You'll need a few things.

      I use Final Cut Pro X, and this is what I did to add in the ISRC. I went to the Share Inspector, Clicked on the Dropdown menu for Attributes and selected "Show All Fields". You can add in the ISRC code in the "Copyright" section as well as the title/description/creator etc. The Code Will Export With The Video and you can see in your metadata. After you convert it to MP4 (I Use Handbrake) you will notice the ISRC code no longer appears in the metadata. I am on the final step now of downloading Kid3 to add the code to my MP4.

    Hi, thanks for this upload, it was a huge help for me. One problem I do encounter when working with Kid3: when I export an MP4 from FCPx and use Kid3 for the embedding, it works like a charm (just like you showed). However, when I wanted to make a slighty less compressed MP4 version by exporting in .mov and then converting the file to Mp4 through Handbrake (which gave me a better result for this particular clip), when I open it in Kid3 the frameID 'ISRC' is suddenly not there. A lot of hte other options are, but not all. Any ideas why? I guess I can put the code under another ID, but it feels kind of messy. Thanks!

    Hi - you've established that there should be 2 separate ISRC codes associated with a music video - one for the song and one for the video. From that it seems like you're saying that both ISRC codes should be embedded into the final video before uploading. Am I right? In that case does one need to embed the 'song ISRC code' in the premiere export metadata window and then embed the 'video ISRC code' afterwards, using Kid 3? Also, midway through this tutorial you start using the term 'QR Code'. I'm assuming you got things mixed up and that you actually mean 'IRSC Code'. It would be great if you could clarify / confirm this.

    I understand the ISRC code that you add to the mp4 info in multiple places with Premier is the ISRC code assigned to the video. But at the end of this instruction, you discuss how to add ID3 tags which are commonly used for audio only mp3s (includes the ID3 tags). In this example, do you also mean to say use the video ISRC code for the ID3 tags ? In other words, the unique audio only ISRC code is never found as part of the mp4 file whatsoever? Thanks for your answer if you have a chance.

      @@CRFTSHO From: www.isrc.com/general-faq.html. Question: Do same songs occurring on multiple releases require different ISRC codes?
      Answer: No. The ISRC code for a song stays the same no matter what album this track occurs on. A new ISRC is required only if ANYTHING about the song changes (track length, title, audio mastering, etc.).
      According to the ISRC Manual, a new ISRC must be issued when:
      A sound recording is re-mixed or edited.
      If a new fade changes the length of a track by more than 10 seconds.
      Edits that change the length of a sound recording by more than 10 seconds (playing time is measured from the first recorded modulation to the last recorded modulation).
      A previously released sound recording is partially used as part of a compilation.
      A "full restoration" of a historical recording is performed by re-mastering, re-pitching, re-equalizing, de-noising or de-clicking a sound recording to meet contemporary quality standards. The registrant of the recording has discretion when making the determination between full re-mastering (sound restoration) and simple re-mastering (reproduction without sound restoration).
