The interesting thing about SA2's stage tracks is that it's not so much themed based on the location itself, but instead each playable character has their own music style. This is a Sonic level, and most of his levels in this game are heavy on the guitars. It's still a guitar-heavy soundtrack regardless, but theming songs around the characters is something that most Sonic games don't do. The song fits the action at any given point within the gameplay, though.
@@VelvetAura I good example is definitely the jungle escape. Sonic(green forest) and shadow(white jungle). Both sonic and shadow are in the same place at the same time, but both of the song themes are vastly different, with sonic obviously more guitar heavy, and shadow being a bit more industrial.
One of my favorite stage themes in SA2, easily. Like others said, the stage music more leans into who you are playing as than the location itself in Sonic Adventure 2, but the track is such a groove that you don't care its sort of out of place. Also the pyramid itself is a front for a secret base. SA2 tracks i'd recommend: - Escape From the City for City Escape - A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup for Pumpkin Hill - Rhythm and Balance for White Jungle - Supporting Me
As a little hint to say about SA2 OST. Sonic stages have a more, "Let's get the party started" vibe, which it's easily showed up in the music in a aggresive, joyful and adventurous style, Escape from the city is iconic, but Metal Harbor *screams* who's Sonic and his *personality* and *ideology.* Tails is more techno, since he's the brains of the trio, but still keeps the adventurous rock of Sonic, since he's his best friend, some stages like Prision Lane and Eternal Engine show that. Man, Tails is a true friend, litteraly breaks in to save Sonic from a cover up plan of the G.U.N. Knuckles is serious, deep and strong. He only haves a goal, find the rests of the Master Emerald. He's flow is slow but tough, like the damn awesome rap themes. His stages are more exploration based.
Sonic Adventure 2 is likely in my top 3 games and its OST is a huge part of that. Pyramid Cave is one of my personal favorites but there's so many more great songs in this game alone.
I absolutely love the straight static sound you hear at those 2 points in the song. Really sounds like falling sand, which goes well with the stage setting and especially well with the stage gimmick (giant hourglasses)
While it's true that the music fits the character more than the stage, it also fits the stage more than people give it credit for. It's a pyramid setting yes, and it's an ancient Egyptian ruin stage, yes, but it has also been taken over by Eggman, and Eggman did what Eggman does; it's full of robots, rails, light panels with his face plastered on them, mechanical doors that open with hidden electric switches, etc. Eggman modernized it, filled it to the brim with technology and traps and the usual Eggman flare. The song has subtle Egyptian influences, but its mostly overtaken by electric guitars and the usual rock style associated with sonic *and* past sonic games as you get closer to Eggman. It very much reflects what Eggman has done to the pyramid itself. I mean, come on, did you all forget Eggman basically turned the pyramid into a space shuttle launcher? Lol
This tbh Not only does it sound modern and kind of agressive, but I even get kind of a heist vibe from it, which makes sense considering that the context of the stage, moreso than "exploring ancient ruins", is actually "infiltrating a secret space shuttle disguised within ancient ruins"
One of my favourite stages and tracks from SA2. This is one of the tracks that represents SA2’s music at its core, just Jun Senoue going hard on the guitar.
Sonic Adventure 2 has some of my absolute favorite songs from any Sonic game. They do theme the songs based on the stages somewhat, but they composed specific genres of and expected sounds for each of the characters. Shadow’s stuff is probably my personal favorite as it’s this weird dark grungy techno metal sounding stuff with distorted vocals you can barely just make out. Sonic and Tails also have some great music as well, but there’s a TON of great songs from this game.
Might be Persona vibes because IIRC in the stage this song plays in, you're breaking into Eggman's base. So maybe that sort of heist-y vibe or mindset when it was being produced?
I'm just discovering your channel but this is the only song I know how to play properly on guitar. It's my favorite Sonic song. Also this video premiered a few days before my birthday. Nice.
exited for this one The steel drum kinda sound with the guitars was something pretty new back in 2002, one that stuck with me most from any game growing up. As well as the song of the bossfight(s) that followed immediately after with "masters of the desert"...especially king boom boo as a 7 year old.
Definitely fits the location but the thing about this game specifically is that the playable characters visit the same stage settings but each one has a certain genre or subgenre they adhere to. So being a sonic stage, it has to prioritize his sound, then weave in the setting undertones to the overall sound.
Not only do the stage themes fit the characters rather than the locations as others have pointed out, but also the context of the stage within the story. Is it puzzle heavy? Is it the calm before the storm? Is it a race to escape impending doom? It's a nice way to break away from predictable or typical formulas (desert = sitar, jungle = bongos etc.) Perfect example would be "Green Forest" from Sonic Adventure 2
I'm so late to the party here, but all Sonic's tracks in this game have ska flavour. Hence those tin drums that feel so thematically out of place otherwise! This soundtrack is worth listening through - not in order - but by character! There's thematic sounds in terms of narrative order also, but it's the characters and the juxtaposition between them that's where this game stands out. THANK you for these videos it's so interesting to hear what you have to say with virgin ears!
Even with the song leaning into the character’s style more than the stage itself, I think the melody invokes a sense of mystery and discovery, which fits the stage theme in my opinion.
Also listen to Jun Senous work on a... Soccer game on the Sega Saturn, I think it was called Internation Soccer? The OST is incredible!!! It's basically SA2 minus the vocals, most won't even know this game. I got a vault in my head of these songs.
That’s why I kind of appreciate when Tomoya came around. Before that, the 3D Sonic music was just guitar-crazy with Jun Senoue and a lot of it did sound pretty cool but got a bit heavy-handed at times and didn’t exactly fit all the level themes. I think that really changed though from Sonic 06’ onward.
And now we're seeing an exact replica of that with EDM worming it's way into more of the soundtrack post Forces without really taking in the music from '06 and Unleashed
Two songs from Sonic Adventure 2 I would love to for you to listen to see "Live and Learn" and "City Escape/Escape From The City". In the case of City Escape, there's also the Sonic Generations remix of it that is also fantastic.
I don't know if they're really that video-gamey but I don't know if you're familiar with Daiki Kasho's tracks made for the Gran Turismo games. My favourites would be Soul Surfer and It's All About You. Would be very cool to see a reaction to those if you have the time and inclination. :)
@@friskycalibri2293 I keep forgetting about all the weird spellings because I always 'correct' them when I make files of them and such, lol (for any artist). But yeah that's a really good one.
I am loving your reactions. I wanna hear you reactto some RWBY Music. Some tracks include Red Like Roses, Indomitable, Sacrifice, and This Life is Mine

requesting Rouge's & Knuckles' stage tracks are high on my priority list with how much they stand out because of that
It also fits the stages though.
@@thenonexistinghero I think so too but it's hard to glean what the setting is from just the music alone, which is the point I'm making

Secondedddd
Any of these, Any, are fantastic picks.
All great choices, Also hoping for Fly In The Freedom as it’s my fav 3D game song in the franchise.
TU TU, TUTURUTURUTUTU
Any of Rouge's tracks too
steel drums are such a sick instrument, i wish it was used more in music that isnt "tropical" themed

Omg!! This OST is so freaking good!! One of my favorites
One of my favorite tracks from sa2, sounds so unique for a desert stage but strangely fits lmao
Bask in the glory that is Jun Senoue.
Can't wait for to listen to the absolutely goated soundtrack that is sonic unleashed
You should be hearing one within the week!
Ive listened to the qhole Sa2 OST like 50-60 times now, endless hours. Never gets boring :c
Awesome to see some SA2! Arguably the fan favourite 3D game and OST.
Sonic adventure 2 has a good soundtrack for a game released in 2001
Even with the song leaning into the character’s style more than the stage itself, I think the melody invokes a sense of mystery and discovery, which fits the stage theme in my opinion.
SA2 is on my Spotify playlist. Use to listen to the tracks on GameCube, when I was sitting in my room not worrying about rent.
Open your heart - sonic adventure!

All of the SA2 base lines are crazy good
One of, if not the best osts in SA2
this music got carved in my brain after the Grump's Walkthrough... i'll be honest i slept on it during my gameplay in 2001... :/
Sonic adventure 2s soundtrack is heavily inspired by British music genre’s

I think the whole soundtrack is worth listening to, if nothing else sonic usually does have good music. Adventure 2 is a favorite.
I rly hope u get to listen to the track supporting me or any of the vocal themes from this soundtrack, they are so good
C'mon! Live and Learn! Give it to me!

It'd be pretty fun if you tried to guess what the stage would look like and then look it up afterwards to see how accurate you are
I want to see him react to Red Hot Skull.
Has nobody requested green forest?
You should lesson to rumbling hwg
Yuhh
You should listen something by Crush 40
