We are very proud of the Chinese people and their achievements since the 1949 revolution when they expelled colonialist and imperialist parasites and ended the century of humiliation. As a guy of similar age to the speaker and having seen China being the poorest country in the world to what it is today I do have admiration of the CPC. China was forced into poverty by the US economic blockade which started immediately after the Korean war and last several decades. During the economic blockade CHina was not allowed to buy , sell or trade with the world and was totally cut off except a few other communist countries. China in 1980 was poorer than every country in AFrica except two. In 2016 China was richer than every country in Africa except two after gaining 41 times in GDP. When Chin couldn't feed itself it had a one-child policy. China never bothers the rest of the world with its problems, never invade and occupy a sovereign country but always shares future with everybody driven by its 5000+ years culture. I am humbled to see westerners who went through the hard times in China and believe in China. China is only evil in western media's mind. In reality it is always a peaceful country with CPC doing everything for "the people". No other country leadership actually cares about the people as CPC. In China the people is everybody. In the west the government primarily serves the interest of a section of population its party represents, the interest of the nation secondary and none for the outside.

I'm so envious of his mastery of English! I expected him to have some sort of Chinese accent but he doesn't have any at all. I imagine his parents must have emphasised his English language education despite having lived in China his whole life. I'm an overseas Chinese who grew up in an English speaking country, and if my Chinese were even half as good as his English I'd be very happy.
I wondered what his parents thought during the dark times of China, such as the great leaps that came with massive starvation, and the cultural revolution. Many Chinese, especially the educated, wanted to leave China during those times. But they chose to stay? That's really something.
