My first GTI was a mess. The RA had terrible backlash. After locking down the RA axis, the RA still could me moved about a 1/4 inch. The Dec axis was very tight too. If that wasn't enough, the polar scope was not tightened down either. Touching it to focus resulted in it moving up, down and sideways. The horror show was sent back for an exchange. The other new one comes in tomorrow..
I've posts from others with similar issues. I think maybe in their rush to get product, their quality control lacked a little in the beginning. Thankfully, mine had no issue and so far, I'm extremely happy. Hopefully your replacement will be fine. Good luck.
