    Beatrix, this video is wonderful. It is also a welcome relief from the pomposity over at /r/classicalguitar. Just this past week I heard commentary on a performance of Scarlatti K96 that went something along the lines of, "too many finger squeaks and nail clicks, if I posted something like this my teacher would hang himself." Letting us watch your learning process is not just inspiring to those who are trying to reach your level but also a wonderful act of humility and humanity (and humor!) in a field where sometimes these things are not considered virtues. Great work. :)

      This is exactly what I needed to hear now! I got many mean comment on my sight reading skills and that there's no point of making a video like this. Of course when I practice, I do it differently, because I have more time to be precise. This was a challenge. Why it exists, because it's fun. 😀 We need to have fun. I often feel very unorthodox with my content and your kind comment made me feel really good about my impact, thank you!

    This was something very special you have shared with us Beatrix sweetie. Self love and forgiveness. Sometimes we can just be toooooooo hard on ourselves. Thank you for your humor and patience. You are a delight!
    PS: Yes, I do play "Capriccio Arabe", and what I found most interesting in your wonderfully human video, from the point of technique is, the hard / tricky moments are hard and tricky for everyone! That's why it's important to continue with love and forgiveness if one is to succeed. In a video of Julian Bream's Masterclass, the student remarked how hard a movement was. Julian replied in a snap, " Yep, that's life!" I love your videos but most of all I appreciate you and your loving manner. Thank you. Servus!

    These are the kinds of videos that truly aid musicians, especially beginners, in developing and maintaining a healthy approach and mindset towards their musical hobby. I greatly appreciate the transparency and honesty displayed in these videos. They emphasize that no matter how skilled you are, achieving a flawless performance immediately is unrealistic without dedicating time and effort beforehand. These videos underscore that music isn't an easy hobby for anyone; it demands time and patience, even from the most skilled performers. Thank you!

      She tricked you into thinking this was her first time. It was for entertainment value and what matters to her most, monetization of her videos. This was a blatantly dishonest video and all professional guitarists or guitarists at her level have this as their standard repertoire of music. This was a shameful act and she deserves to be called out on it.

    That's a very ADVANCED PIECE just learning the mechanics of the fingers takes weeks or months to PLAY IT EXPRESSIVELY, it takes time for NERVE MUSCLE MEMORY to be RETAINED in OUR BRAIN. Once it is PRACTICED MANY MANY TIMES, REPETITION, REPETITION, PRACTICING DELIBERATELY SLOWLY, 'without mistakes' I learned this PIECE from a recording by Christopher Parkening in 1975 and I still play it today. Those 'descending legatos' and the 'ascending chromatic passage' are a challenge = PRACTICE THEM SLOWLY AND DELIBERATELY WITH NO MISTAKES = PERFECT REPETITION REPETITION SLOWLY then slowly increase SPEED.

    It's nice to see behind the scenes and how even wonderfully talented musicians struggle in the early stages of a new piece. I'm a new classical student and for quite a while I was self-conscious about screwing up. Now, I just take it in stride. Because I've learned that even the good players mess up. The other thing is that I'm consistently amazed at by how fast seasoned musicians can sight read the music. I can't wait to be that good.

    • @beatrixguitar
      @beatrixguitar  2 года назад +2

      I think in this case I had some advantage because I already heard this piece a thousand times and I saw many people playing it so that made it easyer. I'd suffer with a weird contemporary piece which I've never heard. :D In the other hand I always tell my students that they mistakes gives me job, and there's no better time to make mistakes then on a guitar lesson haha. Mistakes are good as long as you are willing to learn from them :) Thanks for the valuable comment!

A more accurate title would have been "I'll spend an hour on the first third of "Capricho Arabe" and show you how far I get."

    Honestly, and let's be honest. This song is a part of the standard repertoire for any classical guitarist. To pretend you're learning this for the first time is dishonest. I'm going to unsubscribe.

      It is part of it, as well as La Catedral, Adelita, Spanish Romance and many more which I also learnt in the past 2 years for the first time ever. Everyone’s learning path is different. When most people was learning Tarrega I was learning Carcassi, Carulli and all the Sagreras etudes, and many people don’t know them. Please hold yourself back and don’t be disrespectful. Thank you.

      @@beatrixguitar I was respectful. You're confusing not liking what I'm saying vs disrespect, which are different things. Will you then please just simply state that this is your first time playing Caprichio Arabe by Tarrega so that it's on the record? Based on your level of skill, I find it extremely unlikely that you'd never played this before. Even my teacher recommended that I play it as a student. Almost every professional guitarist has recorded this. It is standard genre. Of course, on the very, very, very small chance that I'm wrong, I'll apologize. But I think it'll be way more entertaining and believable if you played a piece that we can be sure you've likely not played like a jazz piece or a heavy metal rock piece (eg Metallica). Better yet, let us, your viewers, decide. But to imply that this is your first time playing Caprichio Arabe and that you're a professional player? Really?

      Chill out dude, and be nice. Did you actually read the title: the can you "master" part? She also says at the start it's a section of the piece. She never makes any claims to never seeing it before, just mastering it.
      Do we have to have another classical guitarist playing a cover of Nothing Else Matters in deadly seriousness like it's the La Catedral of our generation? Now that is for clicks....
      I like her channel because it's a bit different from all the other classical guitar channels and she is a high level player that is good to listen too and to learn from.

      @@jasongultjaeff9397 watch her earlier videos...her advice to earn money is through clicks and such, which probably includes shenanigans such as learning new pieces. OF COURSE she is going to pretend to learn a piece that she knows well, and any person into classical guitar will know this piece as a very standard score. It is inconceivable that she wouldn't know this piece. And one cannot ever master a piece such as this in an hour, which is another slip up on her part because her mantra is to do anything to earn clicks (her words not mine).

    Be-a-tricks (pun intended) has yet to flat out and say this was really her first time playing this. Remember, her first and main goal is monetization of videos, and it is not about pure honesty. However, I just never expected this level of deceit, which is shameful because it is misleading that one can learn to play like this. Let's just say that I've seen professionals really study what they are playing and it never would take this short amount of time. Just put out honest videos and you'll get just as many views and money (which is great). But to try to trick people new to guitar is a bit sad. I hope you put up either an apology or actually commit to telling us all that at your level, that you've NEVER played this piece before. I'd like to then pass this along to pros and what they think if you are really telling the truth. This was a gimmick. If not, I will apologize. You're move next.
