- We painstakingly synced this CBS TV broadcast with the iconic WTAE radio call of the late, great Jack Fleming and Myron Cope. The recording of the TV broadcast has "edited huddles," but the cut-n-pasted things together in a way that you can still enjoy the full length WTAE radio call.
The original TV version (edited huddles) with Costas and Matte can be found here:

Atlanta gets an old-school butt-kicking, Steeler style. Even though both teams are ultimately playoff-bound, the Falcons are totally outclassed and never stand a chance against the undefeated Steelers, who seemingly can do no wrong.
A broken play magically turns into a 6-yd Bradshaw TD run; a Rocky Bleier fumble magically becomes a 10 yd gain and a first down. Keying all of this good fortune is Franco Harris darting and cutting back against the grain for his first 100-yard game of the season, keeping Atlanta on their heels while opening up the passing game for Bradshaw. Terry takes full advantage, hitting 13 of 18 for 231 yds and 2 TDs (1 passing, 1 rushing) with John Stallworth snagging 6 of those passes for 114 yards and a TD (highlighted by a 71 yard catch & run).
But the glory this day really belongs to the men in the trenches as Pittsburgh's offensive and defensive lines simply ravage Atlanta. The Steelers execute multiple 80+ yard scoring drives as the O-Line opens gaping holes for Franco and gives Bradshaw all day to throw.
While the Steelers set a team record with 28 first downs, Steve Bartowski is the victim of one jail break after another by the Pittsburgh D-line. It's quite amazing to behold such a ferocious pass rush being generated by just the front four. And with no LBs blitzing, the Steelers are free to leave 7 defenders downfield in coverage on nearly every play. The result is a rout. Unfortunately, the Steelers lose TE Bennie Cunningham for the season to a knee injury. - Спорт
Those falcons uniforms were so much better than what they have today. Loved those Red & Black helmets. All be it this coming from a forever Steelers fan. Thanks for all the hard work you do to bring us these beautiful memories.🔥
Glad to do it! And I agree, the red helmets were a much better look on the Falcons.
Falcons should wear full-time what they wore against the Steelers in 2022.
Those were sharp.
@@KeithFroehlich07 Agreed, red helmets with black jerseys looked good. Had a nice, old school look to it but still sharp.
One of the great follows on RUclips!
If you enjoy these TV + radio dubs, I've got 11 games synced with Fleming and Cope, including all 4 Super Bowls and multiple playoff games on our website: www.mcmillenandwife.com/steelers_mp4.html
For whatever reason, some games get immediately cancelled on RUclips when I upload them. There are games dubbed with other great radio announcers, too (Lindsey Nelson, etc.).
@@mcmillenandwife Dude, I go on your site all the time!
Awesome,@@anthonybryant3038! Folks watching these RUclips videos often have no idea our site even exists. 👍👍
This is just awesome! Long time Falcon fan here and well, the Steelers just beat everybody to a pulp back then but it’s still amazing to hear these broadcasts
Another fantastic re-imagination, with an exciting home town call, of an example of what was once a great game/league.

@@mcmillenandwife Thank you.
This is a Atlanta falcons team that made post season that1978 season as a wildcard with a 9-7 record, and captured a post season victory over the Philadelphia eagles ,a eagles team who'd make 4 consecutive post seasons from 78 till 81 and represent the NFC in SB 15 vs the raiders in a losing cause ,the Atlanta falcons in 1978 weren't a pushover . During the regular season the falcons defeated the two teams who would advance to the next two seasons conference championship game in the oilers and rams . The Steelers dominant dismantling of this 1978 falcons team provides significant context of them being a brutally empowering juggernaut who could destroy any opposition on the NFL hierarchy podium when they were fully invested mentally .
I wish the picture stayed on the field. This is great, it is something that cannot be done now a days, .. matching audio with video. All the platforms come in at different times

@@mcmillenandwife Thanks. I've remember your site from a long time ago. Wow, you have been doing Steelers coverage online since, what maybe the 90's? It sure seems like it. I was told RUclips has copyright algorithms, but they also have IP trolls. If the trolls see copyrighted material of any kind, or violence, such as live [recorded] combat from Ukraine, YT trolls will turn you in.
Yep,@@misterwirez7731, started the site n 1997. 👍🏻 26 years. 😮
It is so nice to once again see football players playing with humility and self respect. Cannot stand watching today's players who think every 5 yard gain is a cause for celebration and a reason to make a fool out of themselves.
Agreed, it was a different age. Better IMO, by a wide margin.
I know right? These clowns today make a big play & then they gather up the whole team and run into the end zone and do a skit. It's embarrassing to watch an interception and the guy will make it like he scored the winning touchdown in the super bowl.
@@dmzabo3914, I agree. I don’t mind small, spontaneous celebrations in the heat of the moment when a guy makes a sack or lights somebody up with a big tackle. But the thing where they all run to the end zone after a turnover for pretend selfies or whatever nonsense they’re doing is ridiculous. I absolutely hate it. 😂
Just tremendous. Thanks for all you do.
Glad to do it. There are a few more dubs I’m working on, coming soon. 👍🏻
Aye bro thank you for these vids 💯 it’s amazing having access to his football was before you’re born and currently
Love your channel and the website.
TY! 👍🏻
If the Steelers had let Kruczek have this game... two fine Polish-Americans would have proudly commanded their troops!
And it looks like a beautiful Fall day....
Respect to Atlanta for their resilience.
And I recall some prominent defensive players across the league admired Steve Bartkowski's strong arm.
I'm not from Pittsburgh but hearing Fleming and Cope makes me get the big picture of being there at the time. Great play by play calling here ! Nearly all the Steeler defensive players had a fine day. I liked how Noll alternated them and gave playing time for those who didn't always start.
The Falcons finally made the playoffs this year for the first time in the 12 year history. They had a number of opportunities to score but ended up empty handed except once.
Nice upload!
Tim, I love the old Steeler content, one question, is there a reason you added Cope and Fleming's picture after every play? That in itself must have taken forever.
Much of the video footage is missing, so I had to add spacers to sync it with the audio. Whoever originally recorded the game edited the huddles to save tape, which was very expensive in 1978.
Jeff Merrow DID resemble The American Dream Dusty Rhodes. Look it up.

Steelers false touchdown at 1:46:11 would have been always remembered as one the worst-ever officiating calls if happened during the playoffs.
I think you mean at 1:46:11. You're right, it's a terrible call, definitely wasn't a catch. With the score already 24-0, it fortunately didn't impact the final result of this game. Still unacceptable, though. A blown call like that, in a key moment of a key game, would've been forever infamous.
