Way up there. Sometimes I can't figure out how they get so deep in there. Not a feeder creek in sight. Its crazy watching how fast they can move through the marsh.
I saw u doing the uni to uni, no I’m not a guide or professional but I fish more than I sleep. I strongly recommend the crazy Alberto knot for when you need to tie in a hurry!!
@@redfishbluetail Also worth checking out the lefty kreh version of the surgeon knot.. ruclips.net/video/GDxGy3Nld2g/видео.html Test it real well, and if it holds, you're good. It's super fast.
@@skyiswomb1 Thanks! Thought I saw you comment on the most recent video, but I think the video may have answered your question. It was a crazy blow up, but no eat.
That looks amazing man! I’m moving to Charleston in a week and can’t wait to fish there. Do you think wading along the Ashley would be good? I’ll be living right next to it pretty far upriver in North Charleston.
Right on man. Welcome to town. I don't know the Ashley that well. I'm sure its just like any other river though. Avoid tall grass. There will be areas that contain short grass with hard bottom. A google Satellite view can help big time. If you see any marsh that looks like it has an island in the middle of it, go towards. Those islands usually have tan sand, not pluff mud, and a ton of crabs.
I wear Simms Zipit II booties. Worth every cent and will last a couple seasons. The mud can either be stiff as a board or like quicksand. A good rule of thumb is short grass = hard bottom. Tall grass = pluff mud. If you ever get out on a flat, study the grass. Where is it tall? Go towards it. You will start to sink. You will probably find a creek too. You may find "islands" of tall grass in the middle of short grass. Its usually firm there too, but not worth traveling through. Been a minute since I've posted a video and communicated with anyone. Thanks for watching. Hit me up with any more questions. BTW, I walked flats for a long time in tennis shoes. Main thing you want to do is wear long pants. The marsh lice will eat you up. Booties are better than sneakers, because you can keep the snails out with the zipper and velcro straps. Snails find their way in sneakers. Its a bitch. www.simmsfishing.com/products/zipit-bootie-ii?variant=40836284121278&tw_source=google&tw_adid=579783473996&tw_campaign=16090053101&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwte-vBhBFEiwAQSv_xTYlppSIVN_WflODFjQIw30NMd3qw3SNBuBlDw9LrA7r3c70Z2xmCRoCYqAQAvD_BwE
These are really cool videos. Thanks for posting them. Headed to Seabrook later this month and am wanting to get some practice in with the new 8wt and shrimp/crab flies I'll bring to the Bahamas later this year. Any tips for good places to wade around Seabrook? I am leaving my pedal yak at home this time but the rental house has some yaks and bikes I can use in a pinch and launch from the Seabrook dock. The beach there reaches from Cap'n Sams to Privateer Point so I am hoping I can find some accessible flooded areas to wade. Also, doesn't look your fly has any kind of weed guard on it. How do you keep it from getting hung up in that thick stuff? Is a lead eye preferred in this application?
Hey man, thanks for watching. Appreciate the kind words. Seabrook has plenty of places to walk. There's a good amount of marsh around there that could flood. Take the kayak out on high tide, and use it as a paddle board. Stand up and cruise through the flats. I've walked by the bridge to Kiawah before. There is parking there. Ideally, you aren't throwing in the thick stuff. You want the fish to be out in the open. I think lead eye is more applicable for Bahamas, but I do throw some from time to time. There is always the possibility that it won't flood during your time down here. What dates are you coming?
@@redfishbluetail Thanks for the reply. Looks like it will be the last week of June. Interested to know what your rod/reel combo is (as I am sure the rest of the followers are!).
@@dbow1313 Currently I am a fan of St Croix 7ft Med Fast Action Rod with a Shimano Nasci 2500. That combo will run you $200 maybe. I don't go too much more expensive than that. I am pretty ignorant to whats good out there. I just find what feels right.
@@redfishbluetail I love it. Those St Croix rods are sweet. I was wondering about your fly rod set up. One of my guide buddies turned me on to 8wt 9' TFO Axiom II-x and TFO BVK SD reel.
@@dbow1313 I too throw a TFO 8wt 9ft. Looks like mine is a TFO NXT w/ a TFO NXT LA II reel. A local fishing shop went out of business & I was able to pick that one up pretty cheap. Still have it, but the TFO is a tad nicer to throw. This seems to be what I have: tforods.com/nxt-black-label/ Mine is green, not black, but I assume this is the current model of what I have.
No, but you can do this same style of fishing out of the Folly Beach County Park parking lot. Literally walk 10 yards & you are in the marsh. Or if you walk out towards the Morris Island Iight house, there is marsh on the river side. Probably easier out of County Park. High tide may block you at the Morris Beach. I haven't done it, but I've also seen folks walking the flats off Folly Road near Bowens Island. There looks to be some good walking areas across from the Washout on Folly, but just be careful of private property.
Pluff mud tends to harden on the pants, but will wash off relatively easy with water. I wear green pants, & dont notice any stains. I would wear long pants. There are microscopic lice bugs that hang on the grass. They will attach to your hair follicles (under your skin) on your legs & drive you absolute nuts. I use rubbing alcohol all over my legs if I start to feel irritation. It usually dries them out pretty quick. The grass is also pointy & sharp.
