I have been playing for 6 years. BUT this was so helpful. Totally changes the way I hold my uke, and makes it so much easier. Thank you so much Aaron.

WHERE DID YOU GET THE LITTLE UKULELE?!?

Wow, this is really helpful. I’m happy you shared this. I’ve been playing almost 4 months and hadn’t seen this sort of explanation before. I’m learning via You Tube only and had missed this type of basic instruction. The “mechanics” help a lot and I can’t wait to practice after learning the correct way to hold my uke.

I was reviewing a podcast and saw this link in the body so thought I would check it out to check out how I should be holding my uke. When I first started, I think I got the info from one of the UU+ beginner instructional videos and have been doing it pretty much as you show. However, I wanted to say that this video is fabulous for beginners and it allowed me to understand better how I've been holding my uke and why. Glad this video is in the UU+ collection.

Thank you for making this video! I've tried searching videos on how to hold an ukulele in the past but they haven't helped me so much XD This video is perfect! And the technical details were exactly what I needed. I am looking forward to practising and getting better at playing this lovely instrument. Mahalo

Great lesson there Aaron, very good angle and use of the tiny ukulele. I followed your illustrations and everything made sense, going to go try this on my lunch break.

I still consider myself a bit of a beginner, so this was a helpful refresher. The song I'm currently learning uses the A chord a lot - and my hand on the ukulele neck has started to get sore due to the position! Not sure if this counts as suffering for my art but I like how dramatic that sounds.

8:59 I don't get this. If i rested the base on the neck, I can't reach for the first fret. My index 2.3 inches which either mutes the first string or is impossible. The other tutorials uses the thumb against the back, that is much harder holding the ukelele in place for the swap.

I have to release balanced spot (base of pointing finger of left hand) for changing chord to Em, Bb and some barre chords. That makes me difficult to keep holding Uke through playing.

    Well spent 11 minutes.
I have the fret board keep creeping forward out of my hand. Unless my strumming hand hold it back.

well I think I'll never be able to hold it without a strap... I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it just won't work😭

If you can hold and support the ukulele fine but it starts to fall when you strum, it could be your strumming technique. We're working on a video for that as well.

Holding a ukulele is not a rocket science dude. No one with a brain or at least half of it needs a 10 minutes long video, come on.
