Sultan Selim should be number 1. Not only did he grow the empire in a massive way but he didnt eliminate his own capable heir like Suleiman. The guy conquered Syria, the holy land and Egypt and took control of Mecca/Medina in a single war. Also decisively beat the Safavids at Chaldiran.

Nah first of all i will say sultan mehmed II’s conquest of Constantinople was overrated because the byzantine empire was very weak,they only controlled Constantinople and a few small islands,while sultan suleiman didn’t conquer as much as selim he ruled for 46 years while selim ruled for 8,Suleiman was able to make many inner reforms on the economy and the standard of life in general
Me personally you should include mehmed I in the list he was considered by many the second founder of the ottoman empire in many ways he was like aurelian
Sultan Murad IV is def top 3. Never lost a battle, was the last Sultan to lead his army to battle & Victory. Conquered Baghdad for the Muslims. Brought the Empire which was on its knees due to his Mothers shady dealings, brought the empire back to prominence. By the time he died at the age of 27 the Empire was full of money. @@eric11 not really. Murad II was a good Sultan but it was Mehmed II who expanded the empire further into Europe and made them a world power when he took Constantinople.
@@eric11How can you say that? Murad II died & left Mehmed to deal with Skanderbeg, Treacherous Hungarians, scheming venetians & karamanids. Mehmed II was a gifted ruler in every aspect while Suleiman was an ordinary ruler with most of his conquests came under Ibrahim Pasha's time
I also think that Yavuz Sultan Selim was much braver and stronger than his son Sultan Süleyman, he just had much less Sultan time than his son. Sultan Süleyman was lucky that the treasury was more than full due to the campaigns of his father Yavuz Sultan Selim and the army was camphor popt. But! Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent was also brave and also very clever, he also achieved a lot and in the west he is better known because his father didn't have the time to march to Europe anymore.
Personally I feel either Osman Ghazi or Murad II or Mehmed I or even orhan ghazi deserve 5th place don’t get me wrong no Mahmoud II was a good sultan as well but I feel he deserves to be in top 10 sultans not top 5 I feel the fifth place should have been one of the sultans I mentioned. Mehmed II took the throne when he was 19 and he took Constantinople when he was 21 and started the ottoman golden age and ended the Roman Empire. But at the same time it took him some years to conquer Albania and Walachia and his failure to conquer Rome and Italy and the Mamluk sultanate and not focusing more on the empire that could put him at number 2 and as for Suleiman he conquered Hungary, Iraq Sudan ,Algeria ,Tunisia Libya and Yemen and he ruled for 46 years. He brought the zenith of Ottoman power he focused on war and his state and marking the Ottoman Empire very rich and maki my it a haven for Jews and Muslims escaping the Spanish Inquisition and also this was the zenith of the ottoman golden age.And he made the state in a certain way that it’s laws would keep the ottomans alive until WWI.But he made some blunders as well, he sowed the seeds for the stagnation and decline of his empire by executing his most capable sons and leaving his incompetent drunken son selim the drunk to succeed him he failed to conquer Vienna Italy and conquer Spain and Portugal and conquer Ethiopia and to conquer Safavid Persia. Could put him as number 2 I can see why you made your top 2 choices. Also I have a question if The ottomans did manage to conquer continental Europe stretching passed western Russia in the east and Portugal to the west and the Nordic countries in the north would they have lasted passes WWI or get dissolved before WWI??
You're just thinking about military victories and not being a statesman. When we compare it like this, we will see Mehmed II deserves the first place as hes not just a ruler but also an intellectual and a good statesman. Suleiman is also a great ruler but Mehmed II is kind of "Built different" in my opinion.
