When listening to these podcasts I always forget Nate and Koa are part of the absolute best Pipe and Big Wave Surfers, Surfer of the year etc. and literally just setting the absolute gold standard. You are so down to earth and have such a casual way of speaking about your own surfing, I tend to forget how literal big wave surfing pros like Tom are probably intimidated by some waves you rode, your approach or what you have achieved. As just an intermediate surfer that just does it for the fun yet takes himself to serious doing it sometimes, this is insane. The level is so untouchable for us average surfers/humans...
@@nottherealChickenJoe yea I don’t even watch anymore, their viewers are down a lot too, so much bs and boring stuff to sit through and it’s unbearable with out chat
Thanks guys for one of the best poddy's yet! Traveling way past "The end of the road", injury induced DMT voyaging madman, Tom Lowe, takes trophy for most fascinating non wsl pro surfer willing to chill with The Boys.
What a brilliant bro down. I've been in multiple injury mode for the last couple of years and I really miss surfing. I just watched the amazing bro down.. Great bunch of lads. You're an inspiration.
So pumped to see a new upload!! Thanks guys and what am amazing guest. For Tom, my little niece has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and we have rid her of all symptoms and she’s running around and playing with all the other kids just with diet. Mostly meat and maybe a banana or avocado every once in a while. I have no idea what the long term will look like for her with that diet at all but know she is a different kid with no pain anymore! Love you guys and hope your having an amazing day! 🤙❤️
this was a great episode! Tom has such amazing, positive energy it's always great to be around people like that. keep up the good work guys. killing it.
Great podcast! Tom Lowe, I’ve seen a bit of him for a long time, seems a great dude, more of this please! So many great characters in surfing, thanks for the intro
This was fking great. Rad to hear more from Tom Lowe as a fellow English man and it’s always been rad to see him in amongst all the legends, scoring huge waves. Seems like a good humble human being. Love the vibe of Koa n Nate podcast. Thanks 🤙🏽
Great show boys! Happy I found this, could listen to the bros talk surfing all day. You make my work day so much better. Hope I can buy you guys a beer one day when I'm in Hawaii, cheers.
One of the best koa and nate lowest is such a legend! Great respect for legendary bodyboarders like Smith that opened up a new world of slabs cheers boys keep em coming.🎉😮
Crazy you guys brought up the Teahupo’o day. One of my favorite videos on this planet that I watched over and over and over was Tom and Fergs at Chopes with the song Swimming in a Flood by passion pit. Got me through some dark times.
❤❤ great to hear the honesty about the vortex he went into...Those things are tricky to talk about. You realize how complex the universe is. So many different levels of experience and energy.
Loved this, great episode and to finally have an English guy on! I've surfed the waves in and around Tom's home town many times and now my brother lives and works there, small World!
Tom is describing a haemothorax ie a punctured lung that leads to an accumulation of blood at the base (depending on how the victim is positioned). They often involve an accumulation of air at the top but outside the lung as well ie a pneumothorax. When they occur together as they often do it's referred to as a haemo-pneumothorax. these can be bad enough of course and the bleeding can be life-threatening but when theres a one-way valve created in the lacerated tissue, each breath sends some air into the space outside the lung. eventually thgis puts pressure on and can stop the heart. a tension pneumothorax. The tube Tom refers to is necessary to drain the lung of blood and air and allow re-expansion. The recall of the visual and auditory experiences suggests periods of instability in that classic "near-death" way. sketchy AF. Great podcast chaps.
Cool breakdown, and yeah, the hallucinatory moments made me wonder if it's possible something psychoactive in the water stung him,...some dmt containing anenome....sounds cool, buy def lucky to survive.
Very good explanation of what occurs during one of these traumatic injuries. I’ve worked in seven different Emergency Departments and have seen so many flail chests and other crazy injuries. Funny that as I type this I’m three days out from falling off my staircase and am suffering bruised ribs. Painful as hell, but if anyone really wants to freak out google Trocar, that’s the tool used to puncture your chest in order to insert tne chest tube…😱😱
Could be a combo of stuff..but alot of people have similar stories when the have near-death experiences, and no drugs were present. I think we go somewhere undesirable for some moments...difficult to explain. Glad Tom is doing okay, but his life will be forever changed.
@@GloryDaze73 I had an out of body experience underwater in the ocean. Definitely a near death situation. Flown to the trauma center with a body temp of 90*, paralyzed from the neck down. Everything was calm during my experience like time was slowed down and there wasn’t any emotional reactions like panic or severe anxiety. A dozen things had to go right for me to survive and they all fell into place and once I survived I recovered 100% also. I happened to be a very healthy 39y/o at the time of my surfing accident and health is wealth when it comes to fighting for your life.
Will never forget thay ridiculous pink board! And as for the undies Tom wore on that thing, there is a generation of Cornish bodyboarders and surfers that are still scarred to this day 😂. Great Pod and nice to hear the acknowledgement of how important Micky Smith is to the slab riding community. Keep up the great work all!

Travel is the best education. I wasnt necessarily on regular trips but i got to go visit my dad on the barges out in holland and got to spend a bit of time visiting him in the philapines in the 90s when all sorts of shit was happening with kidnapping and guerilla warfare .. but never saw any of that and the people were SO nice. Taught me that everyday people are nice everywhere and dont believe all the fear mungering SO good to have a UK character from the South West on your show
I know you have surfed New York before, but was wondering what other states have you surfed on the East Coast of the United States? Love the pod have watched u Nate for a long time love the pov videos just starting to watch Koas channel really enjoy it keep it up boys🤙
I wonder about what kind of health insurance pro-athletes have in terms of what happens when they are traveling, especially out of the country. I recently read an article about Eimeo Czermak getting a 55k medical bill after getting injured while surfing in Hawaii.
The Phrase "well I knew it was going to be full on" describing feeling inside when puntured lung is the perfect way to describe those situations. "Full On"
Epic interview, 3 humble hardcore chargers, nice and unassuming. Zero hipster cool Dudefish bollocks you see so much of nowadays. Ya know, the cut off trousers no socks crew holding a twinny mannnn!😅
Aloha Koa and Nate! You guys make me miss home so much haha I just can’t wait to get into the ocean. I was wondering… can you guys talk about how you read waves? How’d you get good at it or how do you know where to position yourself? Like, what do you guys look for? I feel like the two of you look for different things idk, I wanna know bc I’m ass at looking lol
Lately I’ve been missing home so much and I just been on a Nate and Koa podcast binge HAHA thinking hmmm maybe I should pick up my dad’s old board and just go learn
Great podcast! Can anyone find the video of Nathan Fletcher's paddle wave at teahupoo? Sounds like he tried to paddle a beast on that swell that Koa got his and almost made it, but youtube only brings up his tow wave from that session and Nathan Florence's paddle wave from a few years after
Great podcast need to get small microphones that clip on your shirt. Holding the big bulky one the whole time looks like it gets old and people can't use their hands to express their words. Tom charges got photos of him packing big barrels at Peahi
When kids are elementary age i think its like 3-4 hours of school including art science projects so its easy for moms to use schools online to homeschool alot of the familys living on boats and sailing the world use this method
Koa’s chopes wave doesn’t get enough respect, genuinely might be the heaviest wave ever ridden
Looks like he could have made it if he didn't eject. But I understand why he ejected 😂
Heaviest wave ever ridden in chopes is Kauli Vast’s
The famous Code Red July,13th
But Koa’s takes the second place
Agreed, it must have been
That chopes shot that popped up is absolute madness
