I love this. Glen is a LEGEND. I'm a black man and I definitely know his intent wasn't malicious at all.
The entire incident offended more 27 year old white dudes in Orinda than it did black people in Oakland. Ya can’t fool Oakland for 22 years. Ridiculous. Thanks for watching.
@@damonbrucepluslol. Exactly
Such a stupid statement..So glad ur gone..
Love Glen. He made a mistake we all do no one’s perfect. He clearly doesn’t have hate in his heart. The A’s and Bay Area miss him big time. Thank you for having him on Damon
Exactly. I echo your comment and I'm a black man.
He just said in public what he Normally says in private. And that's ok, nothing wrong with that. Now everybody knows how he feels
@@islander5858 comon. I honestly don't think that's the case. Stop reaching
I miss you Glen and Ray, the best dual in mlb podcasting ever. Especially Glens that baby is gone. Let’s go Oakland!!!
Well said. Exactly what I was thinking. Best to Glen.
Miss you Glen. Wish we could've had you're voice for this last season.
And That Baby is Gone .. always will be a fan of Glen ⚾
Man wish it had been Glen and Dallas together for the last game. That man is the voice of my childhood summers. Glen and Ray perfect team!
Voice of childhood summers. Exactly man imma miss the A’s
The A’s treatment of this man soured me on them forever. It was a simple linguistic mistake from a guy who has been all class for two decades. We love you Glen, thanks for years of great work.
As a person of color and a diehard A’s fan, I never thought for a second that what you said was anything but an honest mistake. I miss you during every single broadcast. I really wish the world was a fairer place and things like this didn’t happen to such kind souls.
The harsh over-reaction to this when it happened was brutal. The comment obviously was a verbal miscue. Thanks, for having Glen on here.
It was overdue.
Such a shame Glen was not a part of the final send off, I know it must have been hard for him. We miss you Glen! Has not been the same without you
Glen Kuiper is a stand up guy and one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. We all make mistakes but very few own up to them. Well done Glen. You deserved better and I’m certain it’s out there for you!!
I miss Glen!! Bring him back!
Glen and Ray were simply the best. It’s hard to not get nostalgic thinking about all of the great moments the two of them have called over the years.
I grew up rooting for both sides of the bay. As a kid, I remember thinking I was spoiled that I was able to hear Kruk and Kuip in SF as well as Glen and Ray in Oakland. I wish I could have heard "That baby's gone." This year before we had to say goodbye to Oakland. Soundtrack of my childhood. Love you, Glen and RIP Ray Fosse.
Hats off to you DB for this interview, I miss the hell out of Glenn!! The A’s organization is disgusting, that’s probably second language to those owners!! You don’t need em Glenn, we love you
Thanks for bringing Glen on. He's part of my baseball life. How many of us have not had a word come out differently than we intended? It would have been very out of character for the A's power structure to have handled this with any class.
Miss your voice brother . Keep your head up high, with your chest out . We all make mistakes in our lives . you owned it , you were a stand up man about it .
Dude haha he didnt make a real mistake. He mispronounced a word for crying out loud. This is what they do in russia or china. Hahah youre a coward
Glen, we know you are nothing but pure class. Im proud of how much accountability you have taken throughout all of this. I hope the A's at some point bring you back because it would definitely help with the relocation healing process. Good luck friend!
I was so happy to see this thumbnail. It's been too long.
You called a game effortlessly. I could close my eyes and know what was happening.
As a lifelong A's fan, I knew you well without ever meeting you.
I am sorry this happened and was very happy to hear/see you again.
I only wish it was calling the final homestand with Dallas. You'll never be replaced.
I sprained glens ankle playing basketball at worlds gym in Burlingame back in the early 90’s. He was going left, jumped and landed on my foot. Later on I told him I knew him from doing the 30 minute condensed giants game. He asked me if I liked it. I told him it is a good idea, but since people already know the score, that it probably wouldn’t work long term. He appreciated the feedback. Fast forward 30 years and “that baby’s gone” is as legendary as “holy Toledo”!!! Thx Glen, you were awesome
Kuiper and Fosse were the sound of Summer in my house for years. Their absence has been glaring at the end.
Great to see Glen again and appreciate you having him on. Thank you Damon 👊
You bet
Hey Glenn I'm a fan now and always will be. If you started a podcast I'd listen to it. So would a lot of others. You're our guy.
Miss you Glen
Thank god we get to hear from Kuiper! THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS for us! Everyone makes mistakes. He deserves to be forgiven and I miss him so much.
It’s unforgivable that not one of the bosses contacted him from Kaval, all the way down.
Can we get the full interview uncut?
Exactly! And par for the course for the A's management group.
Glen is a good dude...I worked with him when he would come in to town., I hope he gets a gig soon.
Back in the days when we watched sports shows at night for the highlights, I always loved hearing Glen's home run calls.
I remember him being the host for Sharks games in the 2000s.
We Lost Glen
And we got Jenny Cavnar
Pathetic
Chris Caray isn't bad.
As for Jenny Cavnar, that PBP gig looked like it overwhelmed her.
Jenny Cavnar
What were they thinking
Pritty much Ruined
the whole fairwell season for me
I don't know who she is
She's not from anywhere near Oakland she has nothing to do with being an A's Fan
Ridiculous
@@joesakic91 Chris Caray is phenomenal. He should be the new permanent guy.
Jenny sucks , her voice no bueno
Jenny good wtf you talking about
I have missed Glen! Thank you for this video. It was great to hear from him again
Thank you for this. So many of us needed to see and hear Glen again.
I knew Glen when he was going through broadcasting school at San Francisco State University, and as an intern with the then Giantsvision network at Candlestick for the Giants, I too was taking the same broadcasting course and followed with him with the Giantsvision internship. I got to know him and his brother’s there (Dwayne and Jeff). What a wonderful genuine family. Beautiful people! My heart was broken when this first happened to him! 😢
I’m a black man and I absolutely support Glenn. It was just a mistake. Nothing more it should not destroy someone’s career but that’s the world we live in today and the sad thing is it doesn’t help the fight against racism.
I hope he comes back on soon! I’d love to hear more of his thoughts on everything that’s happened recently
Good to hear Glen again. I've never met the guy but he certainly doesn't come across as a person with hateful racist character. I hope he gets another broadcasting gig.
Thanks for the calls Glen. We all make mistakes. Great guest!
You bet
I remember when this happened. I played it back and it sounded to me like he fumbled the word, he didn't actually say it. And then what followed was a big overreaction by the higher ups, which blew the whole thing out of proportion and made it worse. And the result was that we, the fans, got screwed, as usual, out of a sportscaster who was like family.
This has been a rough week. Thank you, Damon, for having Glen on today! It made my day.
LET'S GO OAKLAND!!! 💚💛🐘
Brutal week brother. Sorry it happened.
Kudos for letting GK speak on your platform.
I miss Glen ❤ I hope he comes back soon
Glen, you’re a legend. You and the late great Ray Fosse went together like pb&j. When I think of the A’s, you two are one of the first people that pop into my head. I grew up watching the game and fell in love with it each and everyday because of you. People make mistakes. And we all know it was a slip with no mal intentions whatsoever. I really hope to see you back.
I appreciate Glenn and hope he gets a job announcing soon we need him back in the booth
This is no different than when Donald Trump said big league and everybody accused him of saying bigly. It's my opinion that the Athletics organization threw Glen under the bus as one more deliberate step to alienate the fan base.
Glen Kuiper. Michael Vick. Ray Lewis. Ray Rice. Michael Phelps.
These are guys that made a mistake, recovered from it, and moved on with life. I say all this to say MISTAKES HAPPEN!
Glen and Ray along with Dick Callahans voice echoing through those vintage coliseum halls will forever be kept in my memory. People make mistakes, it happens. But the ones who own up to it and and apologize whole heartedly deserve that second chance.
You're the man Damon and Glen us A's fans always got your back 🤝
We lost Glen and got an announcer who doesn’t even know the rules. What a tragedy. It would have been special to have Dallas and Glen calling the games for the final season and especially the final game in Oakland. Thank you for this interview Damon and for allowing Glen to finally tell his side of the story. When Glen took over the television announcing after Hank Greenwald retired, I thought we were getting the b team Kuiper, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Glen became a great announcer and even though we were lucky to have him for the years that we did, it should have been so many more. I truly hope he gets another announcing job or as he said, another sports related job in the very near future. Glen is better off without the A’s under the Fisher ownership, but the A’s broadcasts are surely not better off without Glen Kuiper.
Glen, you're a legend of the Oakland A's and you were done wrong. I'll always remember your voice and appreciate all the great years of calling Oakland A's games. I hope you do work in sports again and anyone would be lucky to have you! Thanks for having him on Damon. Happy Friday Gents 🍻
Watching back so many clips over the last week, hearing Glen and Ray talking brang back so many memories, hope Glen finds his way back
The ol' standard line "he must say that in front of his children at home all the time!!" was out in full force after this incident....
Thanks for the interview Damon . 👊🏽 Glen should have been there .
Glen is an absolute standup guy. He made a mistake, rushed the cutout conversation which he’s probably done thousands of times with no issues. I’ve known him for years and have never seen an inkling of bias or prejudice in him. We love and support your Glen!
Holy cow! My favorite voice in sports. I love Glen 😢. He got done dirty.
Glen, you are good! Continue w your life, thanks for the voice n memories
I really hope he gets another chance! Thank you for covering this Damon!
I use to love listening to games with Glen and the legendary Ray Fosse. They were some of the best announcers to me.
Glen is awesome. We lost the best booth in baseball when they broke up Glen and Dallas.
Glen, I think it's so sad and tragic what happened to you for such an innocent accident. You were a great part of my A's experience. Thanks for sharing your story. I'm still really disappointed in people like Dallas and Brodie and others for distancing themselves.
It’s unfortunate what happened. I really enjoyed watching and listening to Glen. I hope he gets back into a booth again
What a great interview! I'm so glad to finally hear the story from the horse's mouth. Glen, you are thoroughly missed on the call!
We were disgusted that they pretty much edited him out of the A’s history. Everyone messes up words, it’s not even a mistake it’s just a thing that happens. There’s no way he’s some closeted racist. Good to see his face and hear his voice again!
Kuiper you are a class act. We all make mistakes. So many supported you after your mistake which says alot.
Keep up with the great stuff Damon. This is what people and sports fan want to see.
I appreciate that
We love you glen. You don’t deserve what happened.
I will never be convinced he even said it in the first place. If you watch the clip of him in the covid season saying the same thing its clear its a weird midwest accent thing.. Even if i'm wrong it was clearly a complete accident either way. I normally cant stand when ppl complain about cancel culture but this might be the worst case of "cancel culture" I have ever seen. Thanks for having him on.
Oh,wait …….. he used the same word several seasons before??????
Thom Brenneman made a mistake about 4 years ago too with another word. He is now back on calling college football. Glen deserves another job. Period.
I think the Giants should give Glen a second chance especially KNBR.
He should go to the Oakland Ballers!!
Wonder what his "slip up" would be with ballers
Thanks again Damon for awesome interviewing… I’ve been thinking about Glen and Ray during this last stretch of Oakland athletics baseball. The man made a mistake and took full accountability for his mistake. Dave Kaval and John Fisher can eat shit not only have they destroyed an incredible legacy of an organization, they have treated their employees, players and great broadcasters like crap. Glen, A’s fans love you and will root for you wherever you go, you’re an incredible broadcaster. You and Ray fosse are the reason I’m
An A’s fan. Forever Oakland 🐘💚💛
He should have been part of the goodbye. But they don’t have the class to get anything right.
@@damonbruceplus 100% man, I have a pod and would love to have you on sometime if your interested, thanks for all your work
7:51 that’s so shitty and yet not surprising at all of the A’s organization. The man put in so many years of quality broadcasting. Yeah he made a terrible mistake but he’s not a bad person and you just don’t treat people that way
Does it surprise you? They hide from anyone unless they have free money, jerks
I'm sure sensitivity was taken into account, however I'm sure the "investigation" was an hour with accounting seeing how much they could save getting rid of Glen and replacing him with someone cheap. Now they get rid of Brodie who has 15 years of promotions for another guy on the cheap.
After hearing Jenny, they did replace Glen with someone cheap.
Whos replacing Brodie for the A's?
Miss you Glen, tv not the same, Im done with NBC sports bay anyways
He made a's games better by his voice and he is a stand up guy and a true gentleman and i really miss his calls. Never the same afterwards. All the best for him and i know ill hear again from him. Chances are he was gone anyway with all the rest since oakland a's are now gone. As far as the bosses not contacting him!! There true colors came out a long time ago and there not professional at all. There scum and traders anyway.
Love Glen, it was a simple slip up. Forgiveness is love.
I miss you Glen and Ray, the best dual in mlb podcasting ever. Especially Glens that baby is gone. Let’s go Oakland!!!
Glad Glen has a chance to get his voice heard. Hopefully his mea culpa will be heard and forgiven
He doesn’t need forgiveness he didn’t do anything wrong.

GLEN KUIPER IS A GREAT MAN!!! A's FANS SHOULD HAVE STOOD UP FOR HIM!!
Glen, we love you.
I hope he knows that we appreciate him and think it was complete and utter bullshit what the studio did. Anyone who says “he deserved it” clearly just love seeing people’s downfalls and love cancelling just to prove a point.
My favorite part is people coming out saying “he said it twice” and can’t prove it. Than say “oh look it up”
Damon, how could you not ask Glen more about the A’s leaving Oakland? Choppy editing too. Was hoping for more.
Cancel culture sucks
has anyone ever used the n word on the live TV and kept their job? this would have been a fireable offense before the term canceled culture was even a thing.

Thanks Damon for this interview. Bonnie Raitt at the Fox Theater was a great show last night.
She’s a legend.
Love listen to you Glen. Your a great announcer. I would bring you on if I was rich and owned a team.
Love Glen. Great broadcaster
Mistakes are made by all humans alike. If anyone has never made a mistake please raise your hand. I'll wait.
Glen is a legend as far as I'm concerned. We love you Glen!
They did Glen so dirty smh. The least they could have done was put him in the booth for the last one in Oakland
Well, the season is over now, but Marty Lurie has had Glen on his Giants Pre-game Show off and on all year, and he's been terrific. Thank you Marty, for stepping up and thank you, Damon, for having him on.
Glen should be able to come back
Ray and Fosse were the best announcers. Their voices complimented each other’s. I wish I got to meet him.
Total slip of the tongue, got a raw deal. If only the POS owner said that, he'd be forced to sell the team.
I'm glad that Glen Kuiper escaped that mess that is the Oakland A's. I hope the San Francisco Giants give Glen a second chance especially if and when Jon Miller retires.
The brand really deteriorated fast. Ray, Glen, and now Vince all gone in a short period.
Exactly. And MLB help let it happen, too. This was all an intentional sabotage by Fisher and his minions.
Glen kuiper needs to be forgiven human beings aren't perfect. I still remember When glen did sports channel light back in the 90's
You can forgive someone. However that does not mean you let them continue on as if nothing had happened
@@robertcortez1109 I thought I was the only one who remembered the sports channel lol. I used to watch it as a young kid and that’s how I always knew Glen. I remember those mid 90s A’s teams with Greg Papa and Ray calling games.
certainly a forgivable offense although I'm a white guy so that's easy for me to say. but I can understand why someone would lose their job over it. advertisers would leave, there would be backlash. people have been fired for a lot less.
Damon, I’m not an A’s fan, but I’m glad that you gave Glenn an opportunity to have his voice heard. I’ve never met the guy, but he did screw up and he has owned it, seeing the treatment of him by certain people tells me that our society is not as forgiving as it wants to think.
I love you Glen, I miss hearing you call games.
Glen deserved to do the final broadcast at the coliseum
We fans know that it was an unintentional slip . . we all have done it . .it's just unfortunate that it happened to Glen . We all know him as a class act and a good guy. It's a shame that his feet were held to the fire and they let him go.
Miss u Glen! Wish you were back calling games
I watched the game live on MLB tv in Australia and last season MLB TV didn't have any pre-game, although it did this year. When the apology came on I was like, was there something I missed? I searched online and everyone else was confused as well.
I do believe an apology was in order but I think it could have been handled better from NBCSCA.
These situations hurt my heart because I don't know if there is an appropriate punishment so to speak, where does one draw the line between punitive and restorative justice?
One thing I'll say is: given the way NBCSCA got rid of Brodie, I think the sacking may have been some virtue signalling from Mr Kaval.
Move to Las Vegas Glen! The A's would be lucky to have you back.
Love Glenn and Ray they were the best
As a black woman I heard it and was horrified. And it hurt. But I’ve also listened to Glenn long enough to pause and know that it wasn’t intentional. It’s a word that cuts deep and is painful to hear. But knowing who Glenn has been over so many decades I also knew that this was a situation of being tongue tied and the wrong thing came out. And both can be true. Having a special needs child has allowed me to understand that not everything is pronounced with malicious intent. And this is a situation where I feel comfortable with having grace for someone who made a mistake.
Thank you Jessica. It’s all about intent and reputation as far as I see it, and glad you agree.
@@damonbruceplus But he says repeatedly, "I made a mistake." But you did not press him on what the mistake was. Was it that he mixed up his words, or was it that he verbalized his inner thoughts and feelings? He made the kind of "mistake" that simply cannot be tolerated -- much like Thom Brennaman's was. You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube on that, though Brennaman has tried. Kuiper may be a good guy, but you just can't do what he did. He didn't clear the air or have full disclosure here.
One time I had to order “knickers” for a baseball team from a black guy…I was sweating bullets so I just said “short pants” 😂
Haha. Have you seen "Sarah Silverman does not like knickers" on youtube? Totally worth the 24 seconds.
This world has become so woke that now we are afraid of forgiveness. Let he who be without sin cast the first stone.
True 👍
Just my two cents. I compare this whole thing to what happened with Jack Morris calling a game with Shohei Ohtani. Morris essentially was suspended and was allowed to come back for the remainder of that season as well as the next. As someone of Asian ancestry, yes, I was offended and thought he deserved disciplinary action.
When I compare the two, on one hand, it was mocking someone's ethnicity on purpose vs saying the worst slur on accident.
Another thing is that accident or not, people expect you to do your job correctly and not make mistakes of this magnitude.
Another thing is that Kuiper was trying to describe his visit the Negro Leagues Museum. He was in the process of learning more about Black history and baseball history. I would say chances are that Kuiper isn't racist and doesn’t look down on Black people. At the same time I can't be as sure that Morris doesn't look down on Asian people.
All that said, in my opinion, I think a suspension would've sufficed, and Kuiper should've been able to continue in his job.
@@dcfog81 Hold on he did not say the 'worst' slur by accident his intent was to say negro but it came out as nigro that's just the inflection of his voice
that he lost what he had worked for cause of crazy PCers lying in wait is just flat wrong
In short, just say he misspoke
D Bruce great interview
I always wondered why he slipped, maybe because he was exposed to the history of the Negro league and heard and read stories of the use of the N word and what those players went through. I hope you are well Glen.
Negro is also a word … It was an honest mistake.
Exactly! It's obvious to anyone with common sense that that's all it was. He had just been to that museum earlier that day.
He mixed barbecue and negro too fast.
@@evilamo He just tried to say “Negro” too fast, and it came out sounding weird…………nothing more, nothing less
Maybe he listens to a lot of hip hop in the players' locker room and his car or his kids play it. It's insane that he says a word that's used every single day on RUclips, the radio, etc, but he makes one slip and he's done.
