You realize your getting old when I used to service Gullwings when they were 17 years old and didn't need restoration, just routine service.
Now their approaching 70 years old and due to neglect, need this type of extensive renovation. Truly masterpieces, but makes me sad to see neglect. Excellent presentation here👍
The Germans were probably light years ahead of everyone when they produced this masterpiece. Dream car.
I dont think so. Mercedes was in deep financial trouble when this car was made. But I dont think its the car the got them out of its money problems. It has steering and rear axle problems that could have been solved with a well funded engineering team.

@@travisolson9190 dont forget the engine lol. A literal disaster. Pre ww2 truck engine with direct kugelfischer injection and modified main bearings and modified heads. Reverse flow undersquare pos truck engine with garbage head design. Meanwhile the 300 slr had the dohc cross flow straight 8 with the hemi heads but they chose to put this pre ww2 truck engine instead 😂😂😂

I’m in love with this. The amount of work put in every detail is amazing.
The lines on this 54 Benz 300 SL are evidently the inspiration for many later American muscle cars. Incredible that German engineers of that era were looking at advanced concepts in aerodynamics and design aesthetics in their products long before that craze hit the big three in the American market... and this beautiful restoration proves it.
The most spectacular 300 SL Gullwing I've ever seen, a fantastic tribute to a unique car. And the music is beautiful !
This restored version is most probably better than the original when it came out of the factory, which is a good thing. These men or restored this Gullwing are some of the best in their trade.
Magnificent car, a resteration narration accompanying the visuals will be a fitting a tribute to the work done.

Noform that exceeds function. Styling is so close to perfection that you spend time on just parts of the car. Like a visual safari. The colour is what makes this so OOOOOOOOOOOOO yes.

This car is a symphony. I love to think when the 300 Sl and the Ferrari Testarossa were racing one against the other.
I'm no expert, but I'm getting the impression that this "restoration" likely produced an automobile of better spec & construction than original.
Siddiq Ahmad the factory standards of Mercedes was much better then than what they are today. The cars left the factory perfect in every way. I think it it’s pretty close to the original :)
Did you watch all the video- it clearly shows this is a 4 speed manual transmission.

Auto perfection and beauty combined but by God I bet you need extremely deep pockets when dealing with this kind of restoration but the end result is stunning I wouldn't even drive it if I owned it I'd just look at it and treat the car like a beautiful woman that belonged to me

300 SL itself is trully a masterpiece. But the restorer....is probably what the Japanese called: Ikigai.....

You are wrong. The car was shown in 1954. The first 72 were produced that year
