- Boycotts, hundreds of millions in losses - is this the end of the iconic chain?
In 2019 we did a complete review of planet fitness with expected earnings cost to invest and whether it was a good investment at the time. Today probably not a great idea to buy a Planet Fitness as they are hemorrhaging hundreds of millions of dollars and losing thousands of members due to this ongoing boycott.
When you buy a franchise remember that the decisions made by corporate will also reflect on your location, and your values should reflect those of the franchise you buy. Don't be afraid to ask questions about these things.
Anyway - so what happened is a woman, Patricia Silva went into her Planet Fitness to change and there was what appeared to be to her a fully intact man changing and shaving at the sink. Woman confronted the man who told her he is LGB. Woman goes to front desk and complains there is a fully intact man in the woman's changeroom at the same time as a 12 year old girl, and snaps a picture shared to social media. Planet Fitness cancels woman's membership and files a police report against her. Their official statement was
'This discomfort is not a reason to deny access to the transgender member.'
What nobody is discussing is this "discomfort" as they put it is the reason why men's and woman's changerooms were separated in the first place. Woman didn't want to see wieners, so they got their own changerooms.
So women and men around the country are not happy with this decision and are leaving planet fitness in droves. Stock tanked losing hundreds of millions of dollars. This could potentially prompt a shareholder lawsuit as it could be argued this decision was impulsive, poorly thought out and doomed to tank shareholder value.
I'm not taking sides because I have never been in a Planet Fitness nor will I ever. But the first question I would ask is why is one persons discomfort treated with a higher level of validity?
We need an answer to that question beyond just "feelings" and virtue signaling. Why is the genuine female concern of being in close proximity to a complete strangers Weiner, just brushed off. And if Planet Fitness really cares why don't they create a unisex changeroom instead of taking sides.
The second question" is Planet Fitness qualified to determine the difference between a predator and a genuine transgender person. Despite popular media claims, most people dont have a problem with transgender, Blair White is transgender and very popular among conservatives and nobody has a problem with Blair White in a womans change room. Dave Rubin, openly gay conservative 2 million subscribers, Doug Murray, openly gay very conservative.
Advocates say predators dont take advantage of these opportunities, but we know that not to be true. In fact assaults have happened at schools, to young girls, and were covered up. In perhaps the most famous case Superintendent Scott Ziegler said their school had never had any form of incident inside a bathroom or locker room involving a transgender child and actually quoted this Time magazine propaganda piece. That was determined to be untrue and shortly after a juvenile who had used the self identify policy to gain access to the girls bathroom was criminally charged.
Are there predators and sick people in our society? The answer is yes. This is not a question even directed at transgender people. Now could some of these predators look at this policy as a loophole to enter womens historically safe spaces? The answer is obvious. Next question, do mechanisms exist to be able to tell the difference between a potential predator and a genuine transgender person, and what mechanisms are in place to protect women? Zero. This decision is given to the complete discretion of the identifying party. So anyone can say they are a woman and go into womans changerooms, womens prisons, womans washrooms, anywhere. To me, this seems somewhat unfair to women but I'm not a woman or transgender so Ill stay out of it.

The 12 year old girl is not discomforted, she is traumatised. The Child Protection services should be called in all of these situations where they are sexually harassed at the age of 12 years.

That's not a law, it's a business policy. You don't call the police because someone violated your private rules for your private business; you just tell them to leave or cancel their services. And then if they don't leave THEN you call the police because that's trespassing. @@petermurphy2106

Planet fitness let females from 14+ in their gyms. Females make up 51% of society and planet fitness prioritise the less than 1% of transgender and autogynephiliacs over females.
Its not just about assualts. It's privacy, modesty, comfort and safety.
Did you vote democrat? If you did, it's your fault considering most women vote democrat.

I worked at a salon back in the day and there was a male stylist who was openly gay. However, I would regularly see him grabbing butts and feeling on the other female stylists chests. But because he said he was not into women they would just brush it off and make a joke of it. And I would find myself thinking, asking myself if he was really gay?! 👀

I had 2 women stalking in the gym at planet unfit and the gym did nothing they laughed at me and ignored me I then asked for a cancellation form we need to make a lot of copies of this and put it infront of the doors of all planet fitness

@@ciscodlc7868will I know it's usually a fee if you have to cancel it before your year of having a membership. So if you've had your membership longer than a year you shouldn't have any fees. But if you cancel it before a full year of a membership I think you have fees.

The reason women have separate spaces is due to working women. When factories needed staff and women began working outside of the home, obviously they would use the bathrooms. Women and girls were being assaulted due to their vulnerability of needing to partially undress, so petitioned employers to provide separate areas. This has gone on to become a social norm. Any man wanting to be in a women's single sex space must be regarded with suspicion. Good men stay out so bad men stand out.

I belong to a small gym, so I'm familiar with some of the trainers (both men and women). One day, one of the male trainers needed something from the women's locker room. I went in to make sure no one was in there, and told him it was all clear. His response was 'I can't go in there'. I would have stood guard while he went in, but he still refused to go in. I went back in for him, and got what he needed. That was a good man!!!

Former employee- that company is a mess. Management is more concerned about the dust behind the fridge and staff using their phones than they are about their own bathrooms and facilities falling apart.
The infrastructure rarely gets a thorough clean but all that matters is that we upgrade members to the ✨💖black card!✨💖

It is really odd that no one is really covering this story. To bring it home to this lense on the topic, it must be bank breaking as a franchise owner, and to have this sales risk blow up in your face when you have no say in it.

They’re not a gym, anyway. If you’re not allowed to deadlift, you’re not in a gym.
Hopefully corporate is getting a LOT of blowback from the franchise holders. This change has to come from the top.

I was a member for over 10 years and my granddaughter had talked about trying it out… I can’t have that with my granddaughter if they’re going to change your policies might have a chance of coming back. Otherwise there’s too many places out there.

Not at all! Planet Fitness can have 100% transgendered membership! Might have to raise fees since transgendered people are only 4/10ths of 1% of the population, but I'm sure it'll all work out.
I used to work out there, what a dump no rules . I never saw a employee work there more than 10 days .

I have had a membership for 3 years. I walked into Planet fitness in Jefferson City, MO yesterday and cancelled my membership. Woke, makes broke.

My Wife was not allowed on massage chair. My wife and I both had memberships. I had the primary membership because that’s the way they structured it. There were a few open massage chairs on a slow night. I was allowed to use it, but my wife couldn’t. She wasn’t the primary member. We canceled our membership that night.

The real harm will be the drop in earnings. Stock prices are in large part supported by investor inertia (eg., people still own shares in Disney). How many investors in PF actually know what's going on? Large institutional investors may ride out the storm as they know selling large blocks of shares is difficult without taking large losses.

Robert saying, "wieners flopping around all over the place" is one of the funniest things I will hear this year and we're not even one third of the way through the year.
I think this is a great case study on why you need to research your franchise before committing. As a customer, I can simply not have a membership there or cancel it, but a franchisee has liabilities.
Planet Fatness handled this horribly. If you support everything from the okay to the disgusting and dangerous, then let your customers, workers, and franchisees know and accept that you have increased your liabilities and need to do things to protect more people in more ways.
I quit because they told me I couldn’t jump rope. All while same employees say nothing to kids filming naked people in the locker rooms. The only gym they don’t want you to work out. This place sucks.
Did the company make any public announcement that they were going to allow transgender identifiers in women's rooms effecitve on a certain date? Do women's rooms say "Women" on the door or "Women and transgender males" on the door? Seems implemented kinda sneaky to me.

Keep up the pressure. Swing traders bought the dip, so the stock price is back. But people need to keep boycotting and the smart ones will sell the stock ASAP before it crashes.
