Hax Tsu yesss i find that most cakes that I’ve tasted from different places just taste either too sweet or lack the freshness of a homemade cake. Most cakes at bakery’s are refrigerated so I get that if you order from a bakery then the freshness will no longer be there. But if a cake tastes more authentic or homemade than I think it tastes better
As a baker, it bothers me so much that there's not the same amount of frosting on each layer of the one star one. I know for sure it's not that hard to get that right, and we don't even make decorated cakes like this one that often.

I have the same thing happen with a Tardis cake my friend got for my birthday. I'm wondering if the extra layer of thick frosting helps with keeping the shape on top.
I think you judged this pretty unfairly. This is a simple recipe so any bakery should’ve been able to master it. The one star cake has really uneven, crooked layers which you never mentioned. Also the slice you cut into the one star cake was much deeper than the five star one which is why the 5 star cake had less of an explosion. Not to mention you said that you never sent any photos so you can’t really blame either bakery for not making it exact
I think the 5 star baker added the centre sprinkles whilst the cake layers were still hot so it caused the centre sprinkles to melt slightly and stick together. It would probably have worked if they let the cakes cool down. 🎂
I'm sorry but what kinda 5 star bakery would do such stupid amateur mistake? I honestly think what they did wrong was spreading buttercream at the center causing the sprinkles to stick to the cake inside. There's no way 5 star bakers would even decorate cake while it's warm, especially when the first step to crumb coat is to cool down the cakes.
I honestly doubt it. If that was true, there is no way the cake would look this neat, because the frosting between the layers would have melted as well (and sooner than the candy), and with a cake this tall, it would have been completely impossible to keep the entire cake from leaning and looking a mess.
As a cake decorator, I can say that, first of all, it's an easy cake to make. Secondly, it will never "explode". The cake on the book is set for a photo shoot. You can only fit so much sprinkles inside a cake.
You have to take into consideration of the humidity of a moist cake and the time between them making it, you picking it up and getting it home then filming, the humidity got into the candies on the 5 star cake and they were slightly glued together from the sugar coated outsides melting slightly...
For the people saying he cut the 5star cake too small so it didn't work. Its also the cake itself. The hole in the centre has been cut too small. Doesn't matter how big the slice is. If it was a bigger, it would have easily worked. :) x
You really should try to make this cake. Honestly I think it would make for an interesting video. also I love your videos I watch them all the time and think you are hilarious. Continue the amazing content, you're doing great 💯😊
In picture, they definitely added extra sprinkles to make it more of an ‘explosion’ of sprinkles. I think he judges the five star too harshly, the explosion was spot on for a realistic cake.
5 star messed up not making the hole in the cake big enough. They also probably froze it instead of refrigerating it. Causing the candy to sweat when it came to room temperature. Which caused it to stick.
Please try MAKING one of those cakes! It would be hilariously awesome! I would love to see it! I love you and your videos! You're my favorite youtuber! ❤️
The first cale didnt "explode" because the sprinkles and stuff got stuck together a bit. My mum tried to make a cake like this for my birthday last year and it didnt work because of the moisture. They got a but moist and stuck together. When you make a cake like this you have to cut it as soon as you make it otherwise theres no explosion unless the hole is bigger than it supposed to be. Or at least as far as i know that was the problem.
I panicked when you dropped the cake slice, not because the cake dropped, but you went after it with knife in hand. My Chef brain=😳😖. Glad nothing happened!! 🥰
Sprinkle explosion cakes are common. This cake is definately cool but not the most complicated cake in the world. Go to How To Cake It and you'll see many different types of complicated explosion cakes there.
