Surge Tank is an essential part of a Hydro-Electric Power Plant.
In Hydro Electric Power Plant Water is used to generate Power by using some Hydraulic Machines.
For the smooth operation of the Power Plant, some necessary engineering arrangements are required.
Hence Surge Tank is one of them.
The requirement of Surge Tank is due to some problems which occurred in Water Flow.
So, Why to use Surge Tank in Hydro Electric Power Plant
    Water Hammer
Due to Motion, Water possesses some Momentum.
This Momentum is destroyed, if the Flowing water is suddenly brought to rest, by closing the Valve.
A very High Pressure is developed by Valve.
This High Pressure is followed by a series of Pressure Vibrations, resulting in noise in the pipe.
This noise is known as “Knocking”.
The sudden rise in Pressure has the effect of Hammering Action on the walls of the pipe, known as Water Hammer.
This Water Hammer can burst the pipe.
In Hydro Electric Power Plant, the requirement of Water goes on changing, hence it is essential to increase or decrease the Discharge flowing through the pipeline.
Whenever the requirement of Water suddenly decreased, the Valve must suddenly close.
Hence this resulting in a very High Pressure developed in an entire pipeline between the Reservoir and the Turbine.
This is happened due to Water Hammer.
To overcome this problem, a Storage Reservoir called as “Pen Stock” is fitted at some opening made on the pipeline in order to store Water when the Valve is suddenly closed, or to discharge Water when increased discharged is required.
Such a Storage Reservoir is known as “Surge Tank”.
So, the Functions of Surge Tank is
    01) To control the Pressure Variations, due to rapid changes in the pipeline flow, thus eliminating Water Hammer possibilities.
    02) To regulate the flow of Water to the Turbine by providing necessary retarding Head of Water.
The Surge Tanks are placed near to the Turbine.
The Height is generally kept above the Maximum Water Level in the supply Level Reservoir.
There are three important types of Surge Tanks used in Hydro Electric Power Plant
    01) Simple Surge Tank
    02) Restricted Orifice type Surge Tank
    03) Differential Surge Tank.

The whole purpose of watching a video is to be able to see how something works. I could have read a Wikipedia page for this and the images were unrelated to what was being explained.

Interesting collection of random, unrelated pictures. I had really hoped for more squirrels pictures though. Maybe next time.

Thank you for the info, I have watched those surge videos in the past. And I never had any clue why they existed. Well done 👍

I actually taught that you would be explaining all types of surge tanks, but the explanation was nice.

I had a very good learning honestly. A humble suggestion though. Please work a little bit on grammatical errors when explaining. I concur with some of the people who have commented that the images could have been more related to what was written. Maybe a little bit of animation, or if not animation at least schematic drawings would help the learner. I look forward to seeing the types of surge tanks being explained as I was watching the video. However, wish you all the best for other productions.

Basic Technical explanation is good in this video, but if it is video than pictures should be related to hydro turbine and related to water hammer effect which is missing in this video.

Do you have any reference for Surge Tank Sizing based on Process Requirements?

If you are going to make a video with just words, make sure the person explaining what you are trying to explain speaks that language. This was all nonsense.

Picture and text information videos are complete garbage. If I was looking for pictures and text I would put on some music and pick up a textbook not go to a video platform.
