It has nothing to do with the digital revolution. How many genius works of music and plays have disappeared over the centuries? The digital revolution just gave us the means to archive all works. Before, things just went poof.
Having major corporations - or heads of state - decide truth for us, be it art or history or human sexuality, is something absolutely to be avoided and fought against. We're standing at the edge of an authoritarian abyss.
The bit that got me in this movie is where they talk about there being no more Beethoven's/Mozart's Because that's what equality does, it crushes exceptionalism... Also Nigel Bennett is in this thing, the guy from Lexx season 3, the dude who played Prince!
@@MichaelJohnson-kq7qg Um, no, it is true. The whole point of "equity" is "equality of outcome", so ballet dancers wear weights so that they can't out dance the bad dancers, newsreaders have speech defects, etc, etc. Exceptionalism is the opposite of equity. Read the book.
Got about two thirds into this before it was taken down for some reason. It has a lot of overlap with Fifteen Million Merits, the Black Mirror episode.
I'm guessing that I don't really want to see the movie referenced but the point made at the end is ABSOLUTELY valid! Also, the Christopher Plummer joke was so spot-on. LOL
I think short stories are perfect for turning into movies. A novel's story can rarely given justice in just 2 hours. This sounded worth looking for. I found it on Amazon, but it was £42 on DVD. So I shall just keep looking out for it in the future. But that high price shows it's value has been recognised.
Well that is ironic I like that show. Just like the wonderful epic Space Above and Beyond. I finally had to hunt down a DVD Rome the UK. Can you do a blog on that one?
Gah!! I have been wanting to see this, The short story version of Harrison was pretty much Bane who smashed into a live broadcast. . . it doesn't end well.
"Harrison Bergeron" was Kurt Vonnegut satirizing Ayn Rand. The comic-book horrors about equality, egalitarianism, and equitably run rampant by an authoritarian nanny-state? The teen boy Ubermensch and the beautiful ballerina shot down by Diana Moon Glampers.
Quite a bit going on with this utube release. Vonnegut has a place in the sci-fi pantheon of the sun, agreed. Has there ever been a movie that did justice to the written and imagined word? Here, The Lord of the Rings, intentional or not is a case in point. What did the changes Jackson made serve the original art? So commercial entities not reproducing bad versions of original art must be stopped? And how many artists died before their works were marketed successfully? I guess this video is rage against the machine but as the man said: So It Goes.
Take Two! I was unaware of this (TV) movie, I'll check out! I know where to look; I found it.😁 Too many amazing and weird movies that have been lost or are not available for purchase or viewing. Thanks Robot! 🤖
ohhhh, "showtime tv movie from the 1990s" and "takes a lot of liberties with the original short story" explains why this is dying. The short story is great, Showtime is pretty much known for doing shitty adaptations.
Sorry but no. This movie sucks. It is what is wrong about a lot of Canadian scifi. Hard to put your finger on it, but the problems with this movie repeat in many Canadian scifi movies
This is the single most horrifying aspect of the digital revolution.
Won't be long before you can't even buy Blu-Ray players.

Thanks again GFR... going to give this one a look.
Amazed that you found one that wasn't on "my" radar.
Glad we could suggest something new!

It's already like that brother, welcome to 2025🎉
Watch the original "Fahrenheit 451" movie. Arnie's "The running Man" speaks to these problems as well.
This video is my first exposure to your channel, and single handedly made me a subscriber. This is so cool. Definitely gonna go watch it.
PS. I love the passion you clearly have for this cause; it comes out in your voice.
Awesome! Welcome!!!
On eBay, there is someone out of Greece offering an all region DVD of this movie.

except that it's not true - there are still astounding geniuses, and they're more likely to be seen and heard.

Sorry an about that! Tech problem. Fixed now you should be able to finish it!
It sounds like the influence of CM Kornbluth's "The Marching Morons" universe
Sean's father John and brother Mackenzie had cameos in the movie, too.
I'm guessing that I don't really want to see the movie referenced but the point made at the end is ABSOLUTELY valid!

As a huge Vonnegut fan, I can't believe I didn't know this existed. I have to track this down. The cast alone makes it worth checking out.
Short story is one of the greatest. It wouldn't make a movie length, though.

You be careful over there in the UK. This movie may be considered propaganda and may get you arrested 😅.
Vonnegut was so prescient

This sounds like todays C.C.P.!

There's a 30 min short that was made in 2006. I'm going to try to find, the movie looks good.
It's here on youtube. 2081, The Film (HD).
I see it's still on Usenet.

I'm not just a robot, I'm a GIANT robot!
@GiantFreakinRobot Damn Straight!
seen it
Seems a little like the FHA thing going on right now.
A comment to feed the algorithm.
Sean Astin is terrible outside of The Goonies and LotR
he's pretty annoying in Goonies too.
he was okay in The Shift, a JudaeoChristian multiverse movie that's not as bad as that sounds.
Great 😊
I get what you are saying, but I'll never watch this movie. Even though it has SCTV's Eugene Levy in it.
Great video essay though!
Is Samwise Gamgy
Want some nice Taters?

What is this "it" you talk about?
@Secretgeek2012 low production values mostly.
