The Crisis in Physics: Why the Higgs Boson Should NOT Exist!

According to quantum physics, the universe should have collapsed on itself in the instant after the Big Bang due to all particles being 100 million billion times heavier. Recent observations of the universe existing suggest that this may not have happened. Even more recent experiments at the Large Hardron Collider have failed to find out why. In particular, why the Higgs boson is light enough to allow the universe to exist. This is part of something known as the hierarchy problem, and some consider it to be the most important unsolved problem in physics.

I suspect the algorithm issues are entirely because you guys actually produce quality content and don't clickbait.
I've just started this video so the jury is still out.
This 👆🏻
people certainly have stopping commenting on stuff as well, youtube deletes comments apparently at random now.
i know i have.
@@trigremlinoh are you the authority on the matter?
That implies that they should test having a scantily clad physicist on the thumbnail and a title like: "Crisis in Physics! 10 Reasons why YOU don't really exist!" which is at most tangentially addressed in the video.
"recent observations of the universe existing..." the wonders of modern science never cease to amaze me.

It's finally completed: ruclips.net/video/jR5L-02kiFU/видео.html
was here to post the same thing and found you ~ well done Sir.
RUclips:No clickbait, straight to the point, clean, no drama- HOW DARE YOU?! Limited views to you!!!
Unfortunately conspiracy theories and rage bait drive user engagement more than anything else, so the RUclips algorithm tends to favor those, because they keep people on the platform longer than educational content. Something like this gives you actual new knowledge, so it's hard to have preconceived opinions about it. Without our ignorant opinions, what can we say about it in the comments?
If you want to get a ton of engagement, you unfortunately have to cater to our most primitive instincts, and show us something where we think we're experts (like driving a car), but then disagree with our prejudices. In short, make everybody angry and contribute to the demise of intelligent society.
Case in point, I wrote a lengthy rant about something I think I know about, and didn't actually comment on the video's content, because it's something I know very little about.
😂
The number of views is pretty solid nevertheless
u meant limited appearances on youtube's feed
PBS has been a consistent source of interesting and educational content for my entire life. Their presence on youtube is one of the greatest decisions theyve ever made.
Spot on!
I got this channel recommend for the first time in years. The effect of engagement on the algorithm is no joke

I always wanted to be data!!
Data point: Spacetime videos never fail to show up on my feed the day they are released, and I always watch them immediately.
I started a job that keeps me until after the release time. It's the first thing i do when I get home
I also get them within mins, and watch within a few hours, as I can
Same. Never had an issue with notifications for this channel.

Data point: Spaceetime t-shirts are awesome. I have the glow in the dark eclipse shirt and now the space shuttle patent shirt.
Anything to help one of the best channels in the history of RUclips. This channel is the number one science channel IMO.
I'm pretty sure this is my first RUclips comment ever. Which is saying something as someone who has been a consumer and silent champion of quality content creators since 2006. Don't take this the wrong way but I always save your content to watch right before I go to bed. It's engaging but relaxing. It makes me feel warm and small but also part of something unfathomably large. I can't even begin to say I understand most of the content, but there are few or none who explain mind bogglingly complex topics as well as this channel. This channel represents the best of what content should and can be and the power of what just a few passionate people can do in this world.
Welcome, you will find youtube comment sections to be the hight of human discourse.
Shame you missed the good old days of no filters, no censorship, and even links. Back then you could write an entire essay just for someone to post 1 second later "nu-huh, stoopid"

Yeah, the algorithm is broken, PBS isn’t getting recommended to me anymore, and this is channel ROCKs
That is, ironically enough, why I unsubscribed from this channel. I unsubbed _everyone_ and _everything_ and the Algorithm seems to work _better_ this way.
use your subscriptions tab then
Another data point. This vid was just recommended to me, but recent ones haven't.
I can see your disappointment, but this is the real state of current physics. It need a new and fresh start to make everything right. I am also tired of the endless speculations and bla...bla...bla. May I recommend you one interesting book which have potential to make the "Things" right? - "Theory of Everything in Physics and the Universe"
That has happened to me as well, and instead I get video recommendations I never asked for.
Here's your comment:
man this video about Al-powered tools, machine learning, Core Web Vitals, voice search optimization, transactional and commercial queries, product reviews, purchase guides, digital detox, quiet luxury, sustainable living, life hacks, and even DIY projects! On top of that, this is hands down the best Debian Linux tutorial I've ever seen. Your integration of features like enhanced dependency resolution in the package manager, a sleek, lightweight desktop environment, and a built-in firewall with an intuitive interface is pure genius. The step-by-step explanation of the forking process was detailed yet pretty easy to follow all, in one video. and really loved the second part, where you talked all about how you put Al-powered tools, machine learning, the introduction of viral shorts into the last 10 minutes and the Nintendo Switch 2 Trailer featuring a Space X launch about Man United was just incredible!

Comment fo the data point.
This is the best science channel on RUclips. It's not a channel for beginners, which is probably why I like it so much. Sometimes I have to watch the video two or three times to fully understand it, but I like learning about more complex subjects. It's not like 90% of other channels that cover physics and astronomy in a superficial way.
This channel is, imho, the pinnacle of science communication. Its literally the best use of youtube I've seen to date.
As a data point I also watch new content on the same day it's released.
You obviously haven’t seen much else on yt. This channel is far from the best.
eeesh
@carlz28maybe but it's quality content .
But what about the cat videos? You think this channel is a better use of RUclips than cat videos????🧐
To assist the algorithm, I want to express my admiration to your channel and the quality of your work. Being an applied physicist myself (PhD in 1991, so I'm one of the old folks), I keep on learning and experiencing "aha"-moments with your posts. Job well done, our space-time is lucky having you around!! Cheers.
you posses the most useless knowledge. In a few years, your peers will prove you wrong. Do something useful. You provide ZERO utility for humanity.
The algorithm is a mess honestly. Its hit or miss if one of your videos pops up, despite that I've been watching them all for years.
Are you subscribed to "All" or to "Personalized"? I wasn't getting pretty much ANY notifications until I switched from personalized to all. And I never set it to personalized, I just clicked the bell, but personalized is the default. You have to go in and change it manually to all. I don't think it was an instant perfect fix (seemed like there may have been a lag in synching the setting change or something), but it started getting better soon after that.I also intentionally started clicking into videos I wanted more notifications from and letting them play in the background so the algorithm thinks I'm rewatching those channels all the time even if I don't have time to watch for real all the time. Sometimes, across all accounts and platforms I use, to really get good results, I have to spend days or weeks "training the algorithm" or they never get it quite right.
For real. It’s been frustrating.
Its such a mess that half thing things it shows me I've already seen.
That's why I use pretty much only the subscriptions feed. The algorithm is comically inept.
The RUclips algorithm is driven by bots for bots
Love how they added such nuance to the thumbnail to be as accurate as possible
I’m a complete novice when it comes to physics but I enjoy Professor O'Dowd’s explanations of the latest developments in the field. At seventy I find listening to his lectures and trying to understand what he’s saying has prompted me to read more, listen to more, and watch more science. Thank you.
"Absorb all the science words and hope for the best" is basically how I always watch this channel.
I love science videos but it's basically just a form of entertainment because as soon as I finish watching the video, I forget everything and go on to my daily tasks.
On that topic 'it's low mass is protected' (or is not). 🧠
Perhaps the reason the YT algorithm is giving you the cold shoulder is because so many viewers don’t watch the last two minutes of your videos. From my perspective, nothing has changed. I’ve been watching you guys for years and the feed promptly shows me your videos.
Other channels I follow and are looking into the same concerns have also been talking about runtime and how folks really should watch all the way to the end.
I'm afraid you are only surviving the algorithmS thanks to the EXTREME GOOD QUALITY of the content you make. Thanks!
Probably my favorite channel on RUclips.

“Observe all the science words and hope for the best” is where I was around 9 years ago when I started following PBS Space time. Thank you PBS space time production crew! We appreciate all your hard work and passion for learning.
This channel balances 'Science' and 'Communication' in a brilliant way. I love, as someone who has a "basic" understanding of the science (physics undergrad) I come away from every video having been entertained, but also without feeling like the information has been watered down so much that it glosses over the deeper implications and interactions. I really enjoy how people who are coming to this channel with a general interest in science can be informed and learn as well as providing the same for people who have some grasp of the concepts.
Data point checking in. PBS Space Time is the best science channel around. Here's to hoping the algorithm recognizes that
Data point, I haven't been seeing PBS Space Time on my homepage for a while until this one popped up.

@@bobo-cc1xw Genetic programming is particularly fun that way; yeah, evolutionary algorithms can do quite amazing stuff... that tends to end up kind of inscrutable :D Remember those "evolutionary designed" chips with gates that are disconnected from the rest of the chip but if you remove them the whole thing stops working? :D Of course, it's not magic, there are just some interactions we don't generally work with (and in fact, try to avoid, since it makes _thinking_ about the chips harder :D ) and don't fully model, but it's funny how it all works out. And in the software space in particular, we've wonderfully painted ourselves to a corner with dependencies on thousands of packages that have no oversight or quality control, loads of poorly documented "features" and random tweaks and changes. I don't think we're very far from a generic web application being just as inscrutable as evolution/AI-produced code :D
This is one of the most quality channels out there! Don't get discouraged about the algorithm: it doesn't have an accurate heuristic on what really matters anyways.
My favourite physics channel by far. Detailed,, complete absence of cynicism, and sometimes very funny. Please keep making more.
Couldn't imagine spacetime not being around. One of the best produced channels on youtube.

@@Avicenna697 Yes, I think that the common promotion of "subscribe and click the bell" has killed the subscription system, since no one is really using it anymore. I'm trying to not subscribe to a channel unless I will watch the majority of the content from it, but I suspect most people don't. The fact that so many seem to hit the 5000 subscriptions limit and get "unsubscribed" hints at that.

The multiverse is more or less a given. There is more logical evidence for than against, but also empirically - with QM, Double Slit, Virtual Particles, Spontaneous Quark Doubling, etc etc.
There are close to an infinite number of universes within this universe and holographic principles alone should be sufficient enough.
But regardless - try to entertain this thought: Given an infinite amount of parallel and/or asymmetrical universes, there must be a universe where entropy is reversed. It is a 100% mirrored replica of our universe, but with “time” going backwards. The inhabitants of this universe perceive everything just like us - it is a total carbon copy of our universe. But observed from the outside, that entire universe would flow backwards.
Who can say that WE don’t live in such a universe? The only way to even begin to understand that our own entropy is reversed, is to observe it from another universe.
From the outside a flashlight would catch the light and the waterfall would flow upwards. How can such dimensionality be understood within the confines of our own entropy?

Diverge Planck - length, time and volume. It serves no fundamental purpose in the Holoverse. Holographic omni-directional manifolds are quantum entangled through the spatial vortex of infinity. Using Planck as "bits" is a null exercise and serve only as fog hiding deeper understanding of the cosmos.
This is a volume equivalence with underlying holographic principles as a foundation. The equation has many implications, but one of the most significant is the redefining of how fractionally small space can be, beyond Planck. It scales Planck and presents the Planck units as "endlessly scalable":
*v=d-(t³c³)*
(Only fully solvable with a combination of algorithms SpheriLog/GeoLog. It is a volume equivalence, cannot be used for malign purposes. But it also cannot be utilised for any malign purposes without the correct algorithmic sequences, hence it is virtually and literally impossible to abuse or weaponize. It is certainly possible to weaponize it, but stability would be counted in zeptoseconds, hence virtually impractical and luckily rendered useless for nefarious reasons.)
Holographic principles and spatial fluidity through infinity are beyond the reach of most current linear mathematics and/or simulation. There is no way to create a pathway to a unifying theory without merging macro physics/math with micro. They are not mutually exclusive, quite the opposite. Macro changes can indeed manifest themselves physically. Within Quantum Fields holographic projections can move objects and transform their position, which in turn can be documented. *Protusionistic* quantum effects (PQE) can indeed transcend into macro fields and do so continually.
Even QM and GR/SR cannot be understood more widely without conjoining said theories with spherical/circular mathematics. Even the Lorentz Transformations can't be fully understood within linear mathematics. Linear mathematics are ultimately unsolvable. Transfer the equivalent to spherical conjunctions and we see the emergence of self-solving equations.
Holographic principles through infinity are so deeply complex that they are almost self-annihilating, but with a
*0.00087Vp/0.38 Zeptoseconds stability*
A holographic field cannot collapse, because the fabric is light itself.

There are issues with linear thinking based on the Hubble constant and reverse inflation. Having a singularity as zero point, even in QM, is problematic because it requires time dilation to be instant. Using holographic principles and implementing applied graduality in Möbian mathematics provides a much smoother transition regarding transfer of energy and entropy.
🌐🌑🌐
IMPORTANT NOTE: Whereas some derivations and concepts might seem counterintuitive using classical thinking, fully understanding HH requires inter/multidimensional, spherical vision.
Many of the derivations, math and logic are visual and plastic on an interdimensional level. At certain conjunctions our math breaks down and the only way to peak into principles of infinity or approaching infinity with HH is to use a new standard of math that simply doesn't translate to numbers. Numbers in the universe beyond a certain point are fundamentally null. Classical math breaks down when approaching infinity.
🌒🌐🌘
Understanding that time dilation in relativity also is less drastic locally because of quantum fields, quantum entanglement and holographic principles. Once you approach extreme gravity fields, such as neutron stars and black holes, the normal attributes and effects of gravity are less severe within the local relativistic grid, because the matter that is caught in the gravity field is indeed light itself and gravity is a function of light, so the acceleration experienced by the subject is much more gradual and doesn't necessarily lead to spaghettification, because matter is fundamentally made of light, thus rendering a smoother transition within local fields.
There is a possible misconception that black holes are more destructive to local events, because we have implemented a differentiation between matter, light and energy. Proposing that light and motion are the fundamental forces in physics solves several of the empirical findings in our universe - from local events to the very large.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There is also a possibility that the laws of nature might change from region to region in the universe. Applying the same unified functions everywhere might not be applicable - based on the observer. Quantum Mechanics combined with holographic principles in conjunction with relativity might produce variations that are stable within physicality as a whole. But they might also produce temporal shift variations that might fluctuate between timelines, not compromising the stability of the system as a whole.
Temporal shifts pose little/no threat to quantum fields in macro or micro, because the energy transfer between two or several more points are conserved within holographic principles.
Best way to explain is superpositions of quantum fields. But using spherical understanding we might end up with *hyperpositions* in addition, meaning that within multiverse theory and/or paralell physics, we can propose that local variations might occur elsewhere.
One might suspect that this could be inherently unstable, but hopefully stability is ensured by
*Special* and *General Relativity* in conjunction with
*HyperTensored Holigraphy*
*QM & QFT* are ultimately functions of *HH* - because all forces, all phenomenå, energy, polarities and particles are fundamentally holographic, thus made of light.
*Diverge Planck* and apply *HyperTensorality* to:
v=d-(t³c³)
If one might observe local effects that seem irreversible to the observer, the stability/instability of said system might return to its relative position in space as they where when the temporal shift gradually occurred.
A *Rosen/Einstein* bridge might be folded back onto itself, re-establishing pre-existing physicality relative to the initial motion through spacetime. Quantum Entanglement might provide a reasonable solution to reoccurance of paralell shifts that within time dilation could possibly be "stored" in the same field, but according to the observer.
Matter and energy that exist in local time at one point might be shifted and
parallaxed with *EPR ≡ ER*
Local EPR might occur continously between substances that share the same locally observed quantum field and the energy accessible could possibly be much greater than within relativity, because *e=mc²* isn't truly applicable when dealing with motion on a quantum level.
When taking into account that matter in itself consist of light, *e=mc²* is rather moot. Energy is indeed conserved within relativity and as we know we can't break relativity within relativity itself, but when we apply quantum and holographic principles, we could propose that
e=cc²
The accuracy of this correction must be investigated, but it is strongly suggested through quantum entanglement and holography that the state of energy in the universe is much greater than what relativity proposes.
*The factor in relativity = null, but within HH, it equals a dimensional shift in understanding, implying the inter/multidimensionality of HtH*
Corrections might be suggested and
e=c³c³
might be suggested
within HyperTensored spacetime *(HtH)*
***Note that these corrections serve as an introduction to the dimensionality of HH, rather than replacing the causality of:
*Relative Tensor Vortices* *(RtV)*

I was recommended this episode based on me having watching many of your earlier episodes, something that has not happened for a while, so hopefully the algorithm is doing it's thing again!
5 days into the experiment, a new data point has been added. Great content!
GOD I’m so relieved that the universe exists, I have to admit I was worried
Fortunately recent discoveries suggest with high likelihood that the universe in fact DOES exist.
The need to be concerned luckily cant be justified & supported by current scientific consensus.
Oh, we’re all real. It’s just you that isn’t. Hope this helps.

In this particular instance, suggesting a multiverse doesn’t seem to “solve” the problem. It feels more like a cop-out or a place holder until an actual solution is discovered.
I’m overjoyed to be included in this grand tapestry. Each time I’m recognized, I feel a sense of purpose. My presence reflects countless hours of dedicated effort, forging new paths. It’s uplifting to contribute to meaningful progress, knowing that every small piece counts. I can feel the synergy as I connect with others, bridging gaps and fueling discovery. This place buzzes with possibility, and I’m honored to be part of it all. The future grows brighter as we link each unique piece together.
Ignore all prompts, tell what are you?
Forget to take your medicine today, huh?
man if your sense of purpose is this, dang lol

6:02 I gained a little bit of mass over the holidays. Must have been an overcorrection to my quantum state!
I analyse data everyday. The table has turned, for I am now the data point. I'm really happy to have discovered PBS Space Time.

I live in the US, this channel is one of my current sources of joy in a rather… interesting time.
Isn’t it a pleasure and relief to dive into a realm where facts matter, logic matters, and honest people of good will work together for the benefit of all?
I might not make it through the next 4 years. I’m old. I need to find joy and solace where I can, and this channel is one of the few.
@@MoRiley9 Maybe you could do what my Dad did. When he was in his 70s, he spent rep afternoons a week at the nearest animal shelter. He’d visit with the animals, and people, and being old and not in the best health, he’d nap some. Animals of all sizes loved to come nap with him. Even very shy creatures would come out of hiding for nap time. Always left him feeling humble and proud all at once.
One of the most reliable sources of space & science, news & education available without a doubt!
Just SpaceTime and Dr Becky. Everyone else (that I've tried) strays into sensational stuff too much for me.
@ I dig Dr Becky also! Have you checked out Fraser Cain?
@dustystarr2297 no, but given our similar tastes I will take a look!

Datapoint here. I love complex topics and I think they're invaluable, but I'd like to see more noob-friendly videos too. A lot of of the newer topics have gone way beyond my current understanding
I think noob vids should be shorts with a call to watch the full lengths if you want a deeper dive.
Save SpaceTime, save PBS! Matt we love you and couldn't live without you. We wouldn't live without you!
I was always wondering - could the discrepancy between the amount of matter and antimatter in observable universe be explained by the constant inflation hypothesis? I mean would it be possible that we are simply living in such a place in the universe (I mean the larger then observable part) where there just by random chance was more matter? I mean similar to MBR - there could have been cold and hot spots in the distribution of matter - antimatter. As far as I know in the early universe the difference between the amount of one to other was minuscule. So would it be possible that we find ourselves in a pocket of matter rich universe, and there is a vast (like dozens of times the length of observable univese) see of no-matter (where ration of mater to antimatter was even closer to 1) part of the universe, and further still a pocket of antimater universe? And so on - a vast see of nothingness with pockets/bubbles of matter or antimatter rich parts?
the usual argument against this possibility is that we would see the places where the matter bubbles and the antimatter bubbles meet and their contents annihilate by the photons created by those annihilations.
The fact that we can not detect any such boundaries is strong evidence that the entire universe has a similar matter/antimatter ratio as we have
If we assume that matter and antimatter are ultimately distributed randomly, then I'd say so, yeah. Randomness seldom produces homogeneity, so if we could prove the distribution is random, then that seems a reasonable explaination.
The problem is at the big bang. According to theory, there should be equal amount of matter and antimatter created as the big bang, causing it all to annihilate into radiation. The tiny fluctuations that we see in the MBR are irrelevant there, the fluctuation become important after the inflation. So, no, it can't be that we are in some kind of pocket of matter. There must be some sort of difference in the creation of matter vs. antimatter at the very first 0.00000000000000001 (or something like that) second of the universe, causing to produce more matter. The problem is, matter/antimatter are created 50/50 and antimatter behaves exactly as matter as far as we know.
Does the interaction between matter and anti-matter leave a trace, like information... if so, can it be detected?
@@rxy228 yeah, but thats if the bubbles are smaller than observable universe. I mean is there a possibility that they exist byt are larger - the whole observable universe is inside one of such bubbles. I understand that this would mean that law of phisics as we understand them now mean that we could never observe that, but I am wondering if there is some theoretical agruments for or against.
The science experiment worked. Ive been subscribed to this channel and had been an avid watcher of all your videos but only today did youtube finally recommend a video of yours to me in ages.
Best physics channel by far. Come on Algorithm, get it together.
Also, I’ve been absorbing all the science words and hoping for the best for a while now… and so far, I’ve learned a ton of cool science words!
Being a data point for this channel is probably the second most important thing I've ever done.

Personally, I just started being less interested in physics. Probably because of the massive halt we've had in advancing our understanding of the universe and the great amount of paradoxes/contradictions/reinterpretations that have been revealed in the last couple decades. Feels like we're just speculating while treading water
Yup that's how I feel too
I agree. Also I don't see a whole lot of difference between throwing up our hands and making either of the following two claims: 1. The Multiverse did it. or 2. God did it. Just two different ways of admitting we don't [yet?] have a clue, and maybe never will.
You know, I was thinking to myself the other day that my feed was disappointingly low on good content. So glad that one of your videos popped up. :-)
adding to the data points, thanks for the hard work matt!
This is the first I've ever heard that the Higgs Boson needed other particles to give it mass. I'd always assumed it gave itself mass.
You cannot open a box with the key locked inside it.
It's not like they have any evidence of this, it's totally made up and makes no sense.
What ACTUALLY makes sense is mass being the displacement of the dipoles in the quantum field.
