Looking back on this, I really like what they did in the show, cutting 5 down to 3. Marc Spector is Moon Knight, Steven Grant is Mr. Knight, and Jake Lockley is....Jake Lockley
Jake might get a new suit as he gets noticed more by Marc and Steven, as he can't be there for a long time as he is the hidden personality.

WOW now I get it, in episode 3 or 4 when neither Marc or Steven knew how they ended up holding that knife sticking out of that follower. That was Jake that was doing the fighting, that’s why the kid that fell from the cliff and that older guy ran when they saw Marc when he got out the taxi

Oscar Issac did a phenomenal job for the dual roles of Moon Knight /Steven Grant/ Marc Spencer. I take my hats off to his performances.

The show took a more genuine attempt at realistically portraying DID with Khonshu giving out the more "superpower" and supernatural aspects of the character's abilities. Because of this, Steven Grant isn't a billionaire but instead a "normal" middle class guy and is actually Marc's ideal of what a normal person he could have been. Jake seems pretty unchanged, but the Mr. Knight and Moon Knight personalities seemed to have blended in with Marc and Steven.
Six episodes really weren't enough to explore everything: including the possibility of Jake becoming more of the gritty Moon Knight or possibly taking on the Shadow Knight identity since the whole Spector family was changed to better fit a realistic portrayal of DID and how and why it manifests.
Wow so they really flipped the Steve Grant personality around lol.

Finally we are depicted as superhero and not serial killer or phsychos anymore. Can't wait to watch this.
Personally I find DID extremely interesting, whether a hero or a psycho. It just seems cool to me how you may have someone else in your body with a completely different mindset.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle it. DID here too and it's not like it is in tv.. it's not romantic or exciting sometimes I just go away and become who I have to be to survive while trapped in my own body. From the trailer it feels like an accurate portrayal
You might be disappointed: in the comics Moon Knight calls himself a Kung Fu Madman, kills multiple people, and eventually admits that he is only a superhero as a coping strategy for his shame and guilt from his various bad choices. When he is Moon Knight, he doesn't have to be Mark Specter: the man who turned his back on Jehovah and everyone he ever cared about so that he would get to fight and kill people. The point is that in the comics he is at base a tragic figure.

Why he gets compared to Batman, I will never understand, because he isn't Marvel's Batman, Knight Hawk and Knight Thrasher are. And with that logic Batman is a copy of The Clock, Shadow, and Phantom. Harrow being the villain or one of them is cool. Khonshu in it is also cool. I would've liked to see his other personalities like Jake Lockley, Inner Child, Mr Knight, but at least we got Steven Grant. Part of the suit looks like Mummy wrappings which is cool. Hope we see Bushman in it, and the other fist of Khonshu. That werewolf doesn't have to be Werewolf by Night he is actually a good fighter this may be just another werewolf. In the comics it is established that Khonshu is responsible for the DID when he showed signs of it, and in Moon Knight vol. 7 issue one it is established by Warren Ellis that Khinshu is a god extraterrestrial entity. The suit is one of my favorite suits adapted to live action. If they can keep the jokes out and identity politics, this may be the best Disney+ show.

I can see how some fans can be upset about some changes of the characters but as someone who’s not at all familiar with the comics, I love the show. To me, the characters in the show make more sense as it fits in reality. I mean if someone who has DID that one of their alters was a billionaire philanthropist that be nice honestly. But of course that’s not really the case. Not saying there can’t be an alter irl just in Steven’s case he makes sense. I don’t know a lot about DID and I’m really trying not to come off as insensitive so if I am I apologize. I have trouble explaining things. 😅

I've actually been diagnosed with DID a little more than a year ago and we have a system of 13! It's does get confusing sometimes due to amnesia but it's like having a wholeass family crammed in your noggin, i got used to it after awhile lmaoo

Hey ahhh seeing this comment we just came out and wanting say we understand how it is and its chaos and personalities Alters are there for reasons as protectors and more were diagnosed with 20 we lost count but also tend to hide a lot from humanity cause well growing up in a Christian family thinks were demons and it hurts us but its crazy how we tend to see this movie but hope you kinda understand how we work

Can someone explain to me how he can have som many different lives? Like where was the time to build up each of these lives? How do these lives work in tandem, wouldn’t they just fight each other out of existence to the point of no real development of each individual personality?
Everyone thinks that Marc Specter is dead except for his therapist and maybe his closest allies, Because Marc Specter was killed in Egypt doing mercenary work and brought back to life by Khonshu. So Marc Specter doesn't really have a normal life to keep up with. Moon Knight is just there for the superhero stuff. So he doesn't have a normal life to keep up either. I think that Mr. Knight is the same way. But I am not sure. Everyone thinks that Jake Lockely isn't who he says that he is. But people tend to assume that he is an undercover cop. So he doesn't need to keep up a normal life either. Steven Grant, the billionaire businessman, is the only one with a normal life to keep up with as far as I know.

My guess would be when he first got resurrected by that god he let them first build their lives up before starting the hunt for vengeance or watever
Nope, they are created by the brain to help, they're fragments of it, I think it's like the purest family bond. They step in when needed, and stay in the system until the host heals and merges with them

Well in the comics moon knight can steal powers of other hero’s storing it into his ankras and not to mention he can wield anything made of moon rock like Thor’s hammer
A few corrections.... disorders are not illnesses, they are disorders. There's a technical difference. DID is not 'Multiple Personalities'. Though to anyone who hasn't researched the current medical perspective, it very much seems to be distinct personalities; so people can be forgiven for thinking that's the case. That's why the name of the disorder was changed in the 1990's, from 'Multiple Personality Disorder' to 'Dissociative Identity Disorder'. According to the current medical DSM, DID system alters are 'parts' of a fragmented personality. They are separate individual identities, but each a fragment of what would have been the person's personality. Identities and personalities are not the same thing. The 'Alternate Identities' (Alters) are formed when amnesic memory barriers are erected to contain trauma within a specific ego state. That ego state then develops it's own individuality.
So they're all one mind but different parts of them come out at different times?
@@haddy106 Yes. The one mind is essentially host to many identities. It's also possible for several to be co-conscious at the same time, 'blending' in a sense. But often it's one 'out front' at a time. While one alter is out in consciousness, they are forming their own memories. But for the others not out during that time, no memories of the 'outside world' are formed. Thus they all have 'holes' in their memories and period of 'lost time'. I work in IT, so using computers as an analogy, it's similar to partitioning a hard drive into several pieces and then installing a different operating system to each partition, allowing you to 'boot up' into a different operating system each time you start the computer. In Moon Knight, when you first meet the character, you see that his goldfish is bloated from over feeding. That's a classic situation for DID because all the alters feed the fish when they are out, and no one has a complete enough memory to understand that it's already been fed a bunch of times in the day. Just as one personality is essentially fractured into parts through a traumatic experience, after much work trauma processing and healing, it is also possible for those parts to decide to re-integrate back into more complete parts, or even back into one complete personality. But it requires that the individual alternate identities decide to do so of their own free will, and it takes years of therapy. DID is a very painful disorder. They are all seperste people though. Your comment implies a unity that they simply don't have. Alters are all different people, thats why the term personality is used by the larger population, on a technicality you are right, but using person first language is preferable when referring to people with disorders as it is far more accurate, realistic, and respectable to describe them on their own terms and realities, not forcing a clinical perspective that ultimately just erases a very big and important aspect of the disorder. DID is formed before the stage in development that the personality integrates, this means that each split as you call it, develops into an entirely different person, they are not parts of a hole, they are entirely seperate entities that just so happen to share a beginning point, much like how plants can be propagated from a small cutting, you wouldn't call a fully grown, propagated plant just a peice of the other plant. Because it clearly isn't, its a whole nother plant that shares the same DNA.
@@facelessdrone The truth is, we all have 'parts' (ego states) just as all oranges have segments. But in a healthy person our parts joined together to form a whole, just like an unpeeled orange. These 'ego states' are in a sense interconnect 'pieces' of our personality. In DID some of those ego states have been 'walled off' by amnesic barriers because they hold traumatic memories. They are basically like a peeled & segmented orange. Separated from the ego states they develop their own sense of 'self', their own identity. The person with DID essentially grows up with separate identities, which are all 'parts' of their personality. That's the clinical explanation of DID. You can believe whatever you want of course, but I have a lot of personal experience with DID. I know what it is, and what it isn't. It isn't multiple personalities, it's multiple identities. The American Psychiatric Association, who literally write the medical book for DID says that people with DID have less than one whole personality. They reason: their personality is fragmented into 'parts'. Individual identities... not individual 'people'. I have enough personal experience that I can tell you the alters are individually fairly limited in how they can develop - they each have fairly established traits and roles, though they can take on other roles and evolve with effort. I will add that you are correct there is disunity. That's really what causes DID. It's 'structural dissociation' meaning the ego states of a person's personality come into conflict with one another over a trauma event. Example: if a father physically or emotionally abuses a child, one part of the child still wants dad's acceptance, while another part now hates dad. They 'split' over a fundamental difference in objectives. However, a DID system can also be guided to reunify. It's called 're-integration'. People who preach that it's strictly developmental and that each alter is a distinct personality are simply wrong. DID 'splits' happen all the time. Any professional therapist working with structural dissociation will agree. The people who tend to believe they are complete separate personalities are not educated psychologists, they are usually family, friends, or informal support people for someone with DID who see the distinct individual identities, but they don't understand the difference between an individual identity, and a person. They are not the same.

What frustrates me is how in the live action, Marc, while being the core identity, has to keep the painful memories to protect the alter Steven who he created. What's the point to have an alter when the core gets the punches? It even makes less of a sense when Marc switches to Steven when his mom was bombarding outside the door. How can Steven keep his innocence and clean his room while his mom was banging and yelling at him from outside? I hope the appearance of Jake will explain this. Hopefully although Marc thinks he is the one taking all of the pains, Jake is actually the one who endures it all. Still, it doesn't explain why Marc-the core knows about the beating and his alter doesn't..
there's no core identity in DID first of all. i'm not sure what your question is. i'll try to explain things for you.
the switch to steven when his mom was bombarding outside the door can be explained by one of the main points of DID - to mentally escape a situation you can't physically escape. marc switched with steven in order to escape because at that time he wasn't able to handle it and "when in doubt, steven grant has no fear". steven's memories of that moment appeared to have been taken by another alter, hence why he doesn't recall any of it until he enters the innerworld and all that. i think either jake or marc started fronting off-screen when their mom began to beat him.
marc knows about the abuse because he experienced it and steven did not (and/or had any of his memories of it taken). there are amnesia barriers. i'm fairly sure marc is an EP, jake is an EP and steven is an ANP. i think you'll understand the show better when you know what DID is.

@@zero_s dissociative identity disorder is very real lol. sure the series is fantasy but the disorder itself isn't. marc is an alter, not a personality. there's no such thing as a core identity/alter. there never was one solid identity to begin with because that process of becoming one is stopped due to trauma.

Marc is not the "core" there is no such thing as a core personality in DID, infact it is often seen as extremely rude and ignorant to suggest otherwise, it just shows you haven't ever interacted with any system who has DID or did literally any ammount of research. I was so happy to finally get a Jewish super hero (especially a MARVEL Superhero) as someone who is Jewish myself because there’s like almost no Jewish rep in mainstream content nowadays (and half the time when there is Jewish rep it’s shown very inaccurately or the character isn’t really Jewish and it’s just a label they put on them, yes I’ve seen that happen).

In the show Mr. Knight and Moon Knight are just Steven and Marc wearing suits, but in the comics they're two separate personalities. My guess is that they changed it for simplicity sake.

DID isn't about having multiple personalities. It's about having 'less than one' whole personality. I have DID and I have 5 of me. Two of us host mostly back and forth, two of them mainly have jobs rather than defined personalities, and one of us is little and remembers what life was like before what happened to us and lives in complete bliss and denial about what happened (although he is starting not to and that's causing problems). There's a reason it changed from being called MPD to DID. It's because all of our personalities make up our whole personality.
Even people without DID have distinct parts and self states. A part of you may not want to go shopping. Another part does. The difference is, those parts exist cohesively and comfortably with eachother. Ours do not. I have blocks of not remembering anything, or it being very Gerry fuzzy and barely remembering everything. I act in ways completely different to my regular self. We have different sexualities (this is a thing, most of us are asexual, one of us is very gay and hypersexual).
Referring to ourselves as being two plus people is a normal DID thing. Moon Knight is my favourite ever portrayal of DID because it shows the complexity of DID and it's really nice that instead of being evil and insanely the superhero is the one with DID. I spent years denying I had it because I said something as a kid which made me know, looking back, it was true. Then something happened last year's which made us all aware of eachother. Even my treating GP who last year sort of didn't know anything about it, says that he can't believe nobody noticed this before in me. I even have a second phone one of me uses and hides for the purposes of things he needs it for, registered under his name, with his message bank and people who know me as that name l. A lot of people.
I hope this show helps people understand DID better. I have it because of lifelong sexual abuse from my sperm donor, starting at 5. And physical and emotional abuse and neglect starting very young. The one thing the show got big wrong about DID is the trauma MUST occur before the age of 6-8 when a cohesive self state forms. Marc was older than than that.
But other than that I suggest people watch it. It made me feel like I was about to finally relate to a main character who is just like me
