You know I get that the scene with Cutie the Elephant death was sad but why is no body talking about how Rose blames herself. It’s sad really that in real life a lot of kids actually blames theirselves for what their parents have done. Think this is why kids who experience divorce parents are called the broken house. At least that’s what I’ve heard.
Yeah, they blame themselves like Rose did because the parents argue over the kids needs and why the other did not do it like the beginning of the cutscenes when the mom gets home. Looking at the arguing and old pictures she figured her parents were happier without her.
I always wondered why Cody's imitation of Dr. Hakim after the episode with the cuckoo clock sounded exactly like said book until I noticed that during the end credits where it shows the voice actors, it's revealed that Cody and Dr. Hakim are voiced by the same guy.
Watching this makes me almost cry..This game was absolutely beautiful when I played it. It showed how all of us aren’t perfect. But we’re able to fix from our mistakes. It shows even the most broken pair, can be mended again. ❤️ I’ll love this game for my whole life ❤️
I honestly think it's funny and kinda cute how they at first hate the book but as they progress they start to get along with the book and agree with it's points
An interesting direction to take this series would be anthology games, something along the lines of Infinity Train. The next game could be the inverse of this one. The book tries to separate a toxic couple that's hinted to be abusive, and the final boss could be the abusive ex partner (in toy form ofc💀). The third game could be a follow up to this, where Cody and Mei face parenting struggles with a teenage Rose, expect this time all three are transported into the smaller world (the title could be something like Three's A Crowd). I would also like to see an overarching plot that further elaborates on the magic system, how it ties to the author of the book, other books like him, and other possible mysteries of the sort
I have often wondered what Rose would look like as a doll. Would she be made out of wood like her mother's doll, clay like her father's, a combination of the two, or a completely different material - yarn, stone, straw, et cetera?
@@endless_fox1462 I think that's the irony to it, thus the fact they even worked together helped only themselves, not their relationship that is and literally just made their daughter cry for it which did made it alot worse, i would sort of say it's the worst part in the game in gamer wise, but in story wise to me, it's pretty brilliant.

The parents murdering a sweet elephant and bathing in their daughters tears was the most messed up thing I’ve seen in a game like this.... despite those screwed up moments the game is pretty amazing and has great messages we can all take to heart. Even though he was annoying at times, The book did have a message that stuck out to me personally. *“You weren’t born to be perfect, you were born to be you.”* All to often when drawing or sculpting I want the end result to be perfect, but it’s never going to be perfect. Because as my mentor had told me during My senior Year, _creatives are our own worst critic._ I want my Art to be great, but I don’t want to set such a high expectation for myself that I cannot hope to reach. I will stay true to my style, but I don’t want to set such a standard that Drawing becomes a chore instead of the fun I want it to be.
Yeah same. He blackmailed them into staying together 'for the kids', so I had to live with their deeply dysfunctional asses for another ten years.. damn you magic book! 😂
That's a metaphor. At the beginning, they're just helping themselves, not the relationship, constantly fighting. At the end, they hurt everyone, including the person they love, Rose.
I normally don't like playing with my brother (who is 11 years old, but who cares... Even young people should be educated on collaboration and maturity through practical means) because we tend to argue a lot about our wrong ways of playing. But this game really brought us together like a team. I am not only captivated by its varying gameplay and looks (it's Unreal Engine 4 after all) but the story, too. It's relatable to the core and I've seen moments where my parents argued, too, to the point they wanted to go their separate paths. They did, but they did not divorce. Sometimes, life hits hard like a brick and 'It Takes Two' has nailed it story-wise, with the pacing and atmosphere. And it really has toyed us with the emotions in such a way we feel worse for our actions (especially with Cutie (I always knew it wouldn't end well)) and I mean that in a well-done way. I don't know, but I'll give this game a 10/10 for everything.
I have strong attachment to my old toys (despite being a young adult, pathetic I know) so that whole scene with Cutie made me .... sort of uncomfortable/sad.
It's not pathetic my dude, plenty of people do. I'm 19 and still love my old plushies! If anyone judges you for something as shallow as that, they're the pathetic ones x
And they didn't know she was writing a letter until AFTER they destroyed the toy. They couldn't have possibly known Rose was or was going to write a letter while trekking through the castle. And when they finally did know about the letter, Hakim took it and put them into relationship counselling sessions. They couldn't write in the letter even if they wanted to. Maybe I have a different view but I think that them killing Cutie was understandable. Obviously not necessary but understandable. Their child was literally roaming free in their house without any supervision considering they were both asleep and wouldn't have woken up until Dr Hakim allowed them to. Rose could've seriously injured herself and they couldn't attend to it as much as they would've wanted to, maybe someone would've knocked on the door and Rose would've opened it only to get kidnapped, etc. Or you know, at the very end when Rose was running away from home with only some cookies to feed herself and was susceptible to getting kidnapped, run over by a car, hurt, Cody and May losing their child if they couldn't find her again, etc. If they took way too long then the aforementioned stuff could've happened, especially the running away stuff. They needed a solution quickly to make sure Rose was safe. At the time, destroying their child's toy was something that needed to be done. Dr Hakim didn't immediately pull them into relationship therapy lessons and just let them wander free until they saw the letter. If they didn't kill Cutie then who knows how long they would've taken to break the spell and Rose would've been too far from the house and matters would've turned dead serious if anything happened to Rose. While destroying your child's toy is probably something you'll never do in your life but, in this scenario, the intentions and motive are understandable. The path to hell is paved with good intentions.
If it was not for Rose, they could have divorced already. But nope, they just gotta have a kid to prevent that from happening. Thus the need to do dark arts to wrap them into the world where they must learn to make up. Pretty hardcore, kid.
If I was them, the first thing I would do after surviving this nightmare is beating the ever loving shit out of that kid. If you think about it, they pretty much confirmed that Rose pretty much ruined their marriage. So, it wouldn’t be too out of character for them to just beat the crap out of her for putting them through all of this shit.
@@liamerolduffy7738 guy if your first thought when you see a kid, esp on who is very young, who unknowingly put a strain on a marriage is to beat them, go get therapy and work through the issues you may have because that ain't normal
@@liamerolduffy7738 no?? It's a child and children usually don't usually grasp the concept of deadly missions. Also kids are incredibly live in the moment creatures. Especially not mad enough to beat them up! When you say that it sounds like the only reason why you don't beat up kids is cuz says consequences for it.
That ending! Oh my heart! I guess that book of love really did its job well, and all it took were several life threatening situations as miniature toy versions of themselves.
Bro hearing rose cry and try and fix their relationship is so sad, I know what it’s like to be in that position, it’s so difficult, so having a little girl who has far less of an understanding of what’s going on then I did go through this is heartbreaking to watch
20:09 May - I hesitate to believe in spells, even though I'm a doll right now. But I don't have any hesitation whatsoever that I need to make my child cry. Making my child cry is an simple task for me, one that I'm perfectly ok doing.
One thing that crossed my mind is that roses parents bodies were unconscious for hours and she couldn’t wake them up, so why dafq didn’t she call an ambulance. If they were dying she’d have ran off and left em 4 dead
Well, the book says time is an illusion, so maybe it meant in the real world too? So maybe they could've been unconscious for like an hour or two while all this is going on! I dont know if this is correct, but this is how I like to think about it, its crazy!
They were unconscious but she didn't realize it was because of a spell she felt her dad was busy with work coz he was sitting upright and her mom was sleeping so she thought she was just asleep from fatigue
I've seen people get a bit upset that we don't get to see if they stay together or not, but imo I don't think that matters. I think it's more that they at least on better terms with each other. If they got back together? Great! Hell, they even made their marriage better from this experience. If they continue with the divorce however, then at least they left on a good note. Unfortunately most divorces are seen to shutting out the other partners lives.
The instant they came up with the plan to kill the elephant, I knew that they were not only idiots, but terrible parents as well. Instead of using the pencil and paper in front of Rose to write an easy to understand message, they decided to destroy their daughter's stuffed animal that was at least her most precious posession, and at most her best friend. Even putting the terrible parenting aside, how would Rose have known that her elephant being destroyed would mean that her invisible doll parents are trying to communicate with her?!
They weren't trying to communicate they were trying to break the spell so they could return to their original condition and besides the elephant was a toy that could be easily mended
@@hsd287 But still!!!! If they tried to communicate with their daughter, they could have asked for her help!!! Or even have told her what was happening, instead of just leaving her completely in the dark like that!!!
@@guardian6788 Like their 6 year old daughter would understand if they randomly wrote it on the paper for her lol. But I mean that’s kind of the whole point of the game. You see the parents grow and become better people.
I can only imagine myself being Rose when the house started coming to life and thinking “Ok so if the house is haunted and my parents haven’t woken up for hours then they’re probably dead. Finally, a good reason to run away!”

@@pancakesposts4812 To help couples with relationship problems. Especially if one is a gamer and the other isn't.
It's worse when the parent(s) actually blame you for their problems...especially when...under the influence...
@@Sonicsgirl13 true
But in the end, she was fixed
I love how real the parents react to these situations. It's great
I was so Frickin’ relived at the end where the elephant was put together.
Yeah
I would love that!
That Would be great!
I have often wondered what Rose would look like as a doll. Would she be made out of wood like her mother's doll, clay like her father's, a combination of the two, or a completely different material - yarn, stone, straw, et cetera?

The parents murdering a sweet elephant and bathing in their daughters tears was the most messed up thing I’ve seen in a game like this.... despite those screwed up moments the game is pretty amazing and has great messages we can all take to heart.
Even though he was annoying at times, The book did have a message that stuck out to me personally.
*“You weren’t born to be perfect, you were born to be you.”*
All to often when drawing or sculpting I want the end result to be perfect, but it’s never going to be perfect.

This is, like, a REALLY dark Disney movie. I love it!
Instead of killing cutie they could of just wrote on the paper and talked to her
That's a metaphor. At the beginning, they're just helping themselves, not the relationship, constantly fighting. At the end, they hurt everyone, including the person they love, Rose.

52:16 may: oh! why did you have to buy this stupid ugly octopus?!

Same I kinda heartbreaking more if for any reason the toys were your only friends
In my situation, this make me cry.
It's not pathetic my dude, plenty of people do. I'm 19 and still love my old plushies! If anyone judges you for something as shallow as that, they're the pathetic ones x
Ah yes, destroying her favorite toy, not like you could have gotten the pencil and tell her. Short term thinking increased to 100.
There... are not many things that can make me truly cry in any emotional way. But this.. this had been a truly touching story.
@@liamerolduffy7738 uh

@@cherryjasper1728 Dude, I was just joking. Also, in a fiction land, wouldn’t you beat up a kid that sent you on a death quest against your will?
@@liamerolduffy7738 no?? It's a child and children usually don't usually grasp the concept of deadly missions. Also kids are incredibly live in the moment creatures. They want something or want to do something they go do it.
If a child triped to trap by grabbing a object that cause me to fall into a deadly dungeon. I would not be mad.

It's a plot hole which is generally a result of bad, and or, lazy writing.
They were unconscious but she didn't realize it was because of a spell she felt her dad was busy with work coz he was sitting upright and her mom was sleeping so she thought she was just asleep from fatigue
This game deserves a sequel. I want to see Dr.Hakim saving another broken marriage.

If they got back together? Great! Hell, they even made their marriage better from this experience.
If they continue with the divorce however, then at least they left on a good note. Unfortunately most divorces are seen to shutting out the other partners lives.
i think they stayed tpgether
I feel like it's supposed to be ambiguous since at the end they said they would be there for Rose, which doesn't necessarily mean they stay married.
