So happy for this video Patrick! 😁 I’ve been really enjoying your paintings on Facebook, oils seem so fun and you have a beautiful sense of light in yours. From my experience people want to see YOU, regardless of the medium you’re using (: Will be looking out for more vids 🙏🏼
Thanks Liron, the comments have been lovely and really encouraged me. It’s interesting how many people feel using a different medium can help improve your main painting medium. It’s seems like your channel as gone developed well over the last year, rightly so with the excellent videos you make. Thanks again and all the best.
Congratulations Patrick! I'm glad you're rested and well, and I love your oil paintings! You seem quite light-hearted and happy to get back to painting things you like to paint. That's wonderful!
Hellooo Patrick! So good to see you pop up again. Love your oil paintings, so happy you've found another medium. I remember Joni Mitchell (poet, singer-songwriter, artist) saying she has to switch off periods of writing and painting, that for her it's like "crop rotation", that one enriches the other. It certainly kept her putting out some remarkable, beautiful work. Best of luck to you in your own 'crop rotation."
Patrick!! It's so great to see you back and looking so well. These paintings are gorgeous and so full of light and energy. Of course I've missed your watercolour videos but would be so happy to watch, learn and grow from your oil painting videos. It all comes down to seeing and expressing that vision, doesn't it and as well as skills I've learned so much from you about having and individual way of seeing the world. I started with oils when I began painting but had to stop quickly since I have a sensitivity to chemicals. I'll have a look at water soluble paints and perhaps give it a go since I so love the light particular to oil painting. I haven't been on youtube in over a year since the heart fell out of my watercolour world when my chemical sensitivities worsened for a long window of time. I'm beginning to paint again but slowly. Here are a couple of Canadian oil painters I have always loved: Lawren Harris, Doris McCarthy and the one I think you might like best - Emily Carr. None of these are contemporary. I' would send you off a message on Facebook but I am not on FB. Perhaps when your website is up there will be a way to contact you there. Again - wonderful and inspiring work, and great to see you again! Patricia
Hi Patricia so lovely to hear from you. I’m sorry to hear about your continuing allergies it must be so frustrating. I’ve had so many lovely comments today it’s blown me away,. I’ve replied to everyone so far ! Have you tried pastels ? Maybe you could work more easily with those especially when your feeling more sensitive. Thanks for the heads up on the Canadian artist I will definitely check them out I have so much to learn. As soon as the website is finished ( next week) it will be easier to communicate. Take care.
Welcome back. Glad you are feeling better. Thank you for sharing your journey of branching out into water-miscible oils. It’s refreshing to work in a new medium. I work in acrylics and watercolor with varying success in each. I have water-miscible oils but haven’t tried them yet. Watching you is encouraging me to get moving on them. Wd love to see you demonstrate working with them. Your paintings are beautiful!
Hi Deborah I’m no expert on WMO I’m still getting very mixed results. But I’m happy to share what I’ve learnt in video in the coming weeks. I’m going to be keeping it simple!!
Good to see you back, bad years give us an opportunity to take stock of what we really want to do. I was a reluctant watercolourist having given up pastels when cataracts robbed me of the ability to differentiate colours. A miracle op has fixed the problem and I am now excited to get back to pastels. We need that senses of excitement to enjoy creating, hence your lovely oil paintings. I won’t be following you as we are following different routes but I wish you joy in your painting.
So glad your back and feeling better Patrick we have missed you .I have persistent Asthma so I understand your delema. I love oils I use odourless thinner with my medium. I am thinking of using griffin paints because of my Asthma. Oil painting tips. I am interested in how you made your own pouchade box hopefully when you have time you could show us oneday . So glad your back keep safe.
Hi Patrick, I’m so happy to see you back, been looking for you on and off for ages, sorry you’ve been ill but very happy to see you back to full health, not a lover of oils myself but would happily watch you work with them as I like your style, I’ll just wait in the wings and keep watching till you do watercolour again, keep well and safe 😊🙏
Patrick, nice to see you back, and glad your health has improved. I really liked your oil paintings. The way you depict trees is impressive. The first painting you showed in the video is just too good.
Patrick, glad to have you back! Missed your videos. Also, I do oils as well and find that the oils seem to reinforce the watercolor skills as well. Glad you found a way to keep the oils going! I (mostly) only use walnut oil to thin and wash my brushes during the session. I only use a tiny bit of thinner at the very end to wash the brushes. Some folks use baby oil too. Then you have NO solvent.
Thanks for the tips that certainly is a solution to the smell. I agree changing mediums really helps to loosen my watercolours up more. Looking forward to sharing more ideas soon 😀
Great to have you back on video. Look forward to your future ones so we can enjoy your new venture in painting in oils. Love the ones you have shown and so glad they are in the style of your watercolours although we know the application is completely different to watercolour..Pleased you are feeling so much better and have to say you certainly look very healthy and well now. Great times ahead 🤗👍😍
Very glad to see you!! Beautiful paintings. 2020 has been such a crappy year, I haven't painted at all until last week. Looking forward to watching anything you have to share.
Great to hear from you Francoise Your right it’s been a dreadful year for everyone. Hopefully better times to come. I’m pleased you’ve started painting again. Hopefully it can help through these challenging times.
Welcome back and glad you are feeling better! I love your oil paintings and I think it is great that you are trying out new mediums! I have been thinking about trying it out myself but am afraid of the mess I will make! ☺️
Thanks Zoe I’m quite a messy worker but I know it doesn’t have to be that way! You can paint en Plein air oils are perfect for that and it’s the best experience ever. I will go through the things necessary in future videos.
Great to see you again Patrick, glad you are in good health now. Looking forward to seeing your next videos. I too like both watercolours and oil paints. Sansodor is a God send for those fumes! Great paintings mate, stay safe 👍👍
Good to see you back Patrick! Made the move the other way from oil to watercolour - I like oils but the smell, mess and my impatience got the better of me! I Hope all goes well for you, look forward to your new content.
Thanks for the comment Paul, your right the mess is a lot more than with WC. The smell not to bad with water mixable oil paints. We’re all fine . Hope all is good with you too.
Patrick, it’s great to see you back on YT again and to hear that you are in good health and enjoying painting. Just loving your oil paintings and am looking forward to watching your process in creating them. I have been using water mixeable oils on and off and find them very user friendly. Happy painting! 🙂
Painting Art Thanks Patrick, I haven’t posted any of my oils, I have some which i put aside and need to finish. I have 2 old ones on Instagram, a portrait and seascape but I think you have seen them. Must get organised and post some new stuff!
Yay, Patrick! So nice to see you back on YT and I look forward to watching you work in this medium. Have always felt I was a frustrated oil painter... looking forward to exploring this along side you (have my water-soluble oils raring to go). I enjoy your impressionistic style so much. Glad to hear your health issues have passed. Wishing you the best in this revitalized venture and am grateful/blessed to get to play along too!
I'm happy you are back. I've been interested in the water miscible oils so would love to see a demo from you. I'm continuing in watercolor but have lately realized other mediums help an artist to grow and create. I think a lot of us are of the same journey as You! Your oils are fabulous♡♡.
Thanks Paula for your kind words. I’m no expert with WMO but I’m happy to demonstrate what I know. I will record some of my painting process very soon.
I too find the same thing as I bounce around different mediums. I love trying and dabbling in different stuff to keep things fresh and find different ways to approach stuff. I look forward to your new content! Edit: absolutely lovely paintings too!!!
so glad to see you again and immensely glad to hear about new adventure! i am in love with watercolor and oil, it would be wonderful to continue to learn from you!
Good to see you Patrick. Happy you are feeling better. I find it refreshing to switch mediums as well. Though I haven't been painting very long. Recently I discovered that solvents are not needed to do oils or clean up from them. Plenty of oil and just liquid dish soap clean brushes. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Take care.
Hi Annette thanks for your comment. So much better now thank you. Thanks for the tips on oils . If I can avoid solvents the problem is eliminated. I’m enjoying the WMO but I’ve been given traditional oil’s too so possibly try them out.
@@PatrickLeyGreaves The traditional oils are much more buttery. Plenty of oil and a touch of fast drying medium if you wish, no harsh chemicals. Then clean up with a good washing up liquid soap works a charm. Enjoy your oils.
So lovely to hear from you! Glad you are feeling better. Your oil paintings look wonderful. I agree with you working with multiple mediums is a great experience. Looking forward to more of your videos.
@@PatrickLeyGreaves My late wife and I holidayed there for 17 consecutive years, sometimes twice a year! Loved the place and the singing in the pub on Friday nights was a bit special.... Those oil paintings are gorgeous Patrick, I can't wait to see you in action with them! No need to reply, I know you're busy. Thanks for all your help and inspiration.
Great to see you back and glad to hear you’re feeling well! I’d love to hear how you use the water-soluble oils. I’ve had a set for almost two years and I guess I’ve been a little too intimidated to break them out. It would be fun to see your process!
Thank you. Will be uploading a video tomorrow which shows my process. The more I learn the more I will share. The video tomorrow is just visual demonstration I will explain more in future videos. Thanks again for your comment.
Very nice paintings, I think we all get a little bored or lose interest in one medium so using different ones keeps life exciting. Great to see you back again, happy painting. 😀👨🎨
I think you have a good point there mixing it up a bit helps to keep things fresh. I’m looking forward to experimenting more with different subjects. Thanks very much for your continued support.
Hi Patrick, great to see you back!! I really want to start Oil Painting so really looking forward to seeing your new journey. Glad you’re well, all the best, Simon
Really good to see you again. I was concerned; you look well, sound well and enthusiastic about your work. I love your oils. They are fresh and dappled with light and life. I have always moved from or incorporated varied media in what I'm doing .So, bravo and look forward to more. Thank you, Patrick.
I am so glad your back. I am. Really interested in your framing. You have given such good advice that Ive used in the past. You are such a gorgeous man, you present so well and I love listening to you. Keep well. Greetings from Oz.
Very pleased to see you back. Pleased too , that you are well again. Will look forward to seeing your demos and learning more about water miscible oil paints . Your colour palette looked calming and choice of subject just what we need right now in the midst of Covid 19!
Hi Patrick! I was worried about you! So glad you're feeling better. I have wondered about using water soluble oils. I used to paint in oils years ago, but switched to watercolor to avoid the fumes. So I will be interested to see what you can accomplish with WSO. I love the painting of the pony wading in the river. The others are lovely too! I'll be sure to check out your website. I had to take a break from painting as well due to painful arthritis in my thumb joints. But I had surgery to fix it, and now I can paint again--Yay!!! You have been an inspiration to me. Thanks! Paula
Love your paintings. I can’t decide on a medium either.....I struggle with this so much. Especially since I’m new to are only a few years in. I just focus on drawing and when I feel to add Colour I use whatever I like - well anyway, happy to see a video from you, I won’t be going anywhere. Making video content is hard enough! Looking forward to more painting
Don’t think about it too much Kimberly just relax into the painting not worrying about the end result. That way you will get your best work. Just be bold with your paint, experiment and you’ll learn so much.
Your back and you seem so excited to be here. I do understand why because I'm almost at the same level you are, watercolor for over 30 years and now just trying my hand at water soluble oils. Like you i can't use turpentine, and the toxic fumes are not good. I'm pleased to see you doing these videos, so I can learn from you along with my first love, watercolor.. Thank you Patrick . I've followed you for many years.
Wow, you transferred to oils from watercolours really well, I remember when I switched, my paintings looked dreadful at first. I totally agree about how working with different media feeds into others, I have experienced that myself. I have a friend with FASO and they seem very good with support for their clients and the websites look great. Yes please for some framing information, that would be very interesting.
Hi Kari just checked out your channel your journals look beautiful. Love the studio tour you have a good working space. I’ve just joined Faso and there online support has been first class. The website will be finished next week. I will be showing my framing equipment very soon on YT.. BTW subscribed to your channel.
Welcome back. I started with oil, then tried watercolor. Just couldn't get watercolor. So then acrylic. I like acrylic painting. I don't have to wait long for the painting to dry. But see.s flat. My favorite is oil, but hate the fumes. So I guess I can try the water based oils.
With the WMO you can get away with just using water to thin the paint, but not to much. I also use water mixable linseed oil helps lay down subsequent layers.
First --so happy to see that you are well Those of us that follow your watercolor have gotten to feel like we are distant friends and we care about you Second --so glad you are painting My art coach keeps trying to get me to try oil as a second medium and i have refused due to the things you listed that bother you I am looking forward to seeing your journey Welcome back
Hi Teri thanks for your comment. The smell from WMO is minimal possibly undetectable. Although you need the space to store drying paintings. I’ve made a rack that I can talk more about in coming videos. I think your tutor is right trying a second medium will be very beneficial to your first.
Great to see you again, your right it is good to have a go in other mediums, I've tried acrilic's inks and some colarge but still like water colour because it's easy to clear up afterwards. Well impressed with your oil painting, take care.
Lovely paintings. I'd like to see a video on making frames. I want to make some frames that are very wide. I was thinking 16 by 9 which is the ideal size also for showing them on RUclips.
Welcome back! I am so glad you are well again! The oil paintings look amazing, and I am excited to see more... I am on to acrylics now, and really enjoying it. Maybe I will try some videos as well 😅
Hey Elizabeth it’s good to hear from you. I have never tried acrylics, hmm there’s one for the future! I will check out your channel later and see what you’ve been up to. I do admire the freedom in your work I certainly want to find more of that in my work. To be free and let go in painting is harder than many imagine.
I’m glad to see you’re painting again in which ever medium suits you. I agree it’s good to explore other mediums and look forward to your videos featuring either oil or watercolor.
Thank you very much. I’m sure you can as good if not better than me just practice and don’t let failures put you off. Keep going , experiment lots and you’ll teach your goal quickly.
Patrick, I was concerned about you not seeing you for so long. Your oils are beautiful and do reflect the watercolor style we all know and love. What exactly is the board you use? Do you have suggestions about brand of water mixable oils? Thought about this a few years ago, but my watercolor took over. Would like to give a go without investing too much to start. A basic primary set and what else? Can't wait to see more of you!
Hi Francine I much better now thank you. I use Cobra and Windsor and Newton WMO. I will make a series of videos outlining my materials and techniques. I’m no expert but you can definitely learn by my mistakes!!
I’m making transition from pastels to watersoluable oils en plein air....the only time I seem to make time for my art ! Look forward to following your journey.....sad to say watercolours still cause me grief! Love your oils fabulous
Thanks Anthea. En Plein air is the way to go. It’s just beautiful to be in the countryside painting. Watercolours are challenging but when it clicks they do much fun to work in.
Great with an update from you! You're just as brilliant with colors using oil as you are using watercolours. I would also like to venture into oil at some point, but I don't really have the space right now. Watercolor takes a little less space and is a little less smelly!
Good to hear from you Agatha, your right oils do need more space especially the drying process. I have made a rack and that’s made things a lot easier. I hope all is well with you and your family. I look forward to seeing more of your work soon it always inspired me.
@@PatrickLeyGreaves Thank you! I'm currently not very focused on painting as I am dealing with the sale of a house and other things that are demanding my time and energy. Hopefully before the end of the year I'll be back! Until then I'm trying to squeeze it in now and then, but it's not with the same focus and determination as I usually have. But watching inspiring videos is always a good way to get back on the horse again!
Agathe Molvik your such a talented artist in your own right so as soon as your able to continue you must. Lost of great paintings left in you to share with everyone. I remember when PW website was up and running I used to look forward to the paintings you posted very much, you saw things in a different way which always made your paintings exciting to look at.
Good to see you back and OIL painting was my bigginin back in the 70's, than I change to Acrylics and since 2009 I started with watercolors... i still have some oil colors and also water soluble oils with I considere them as a upgrade Acrylics. But my fascination with watercolors is still super strong yet... But is good to have you back,,, Actually the one with the horse on the river is a very good one, i do like it.
It’s hard to say both have there challenges. I would say pastels would be better as your not facing the drying problem. Gives you time to think and plan . Hope that helps
Such a lovely video...will continue to follow you even though oil is your focus for the time being. Your style is so unpretentious and it makes an amateur like myself feel more confident 😊
Thank you for staying interested in my work. I promise there will be watercolours soon in the near future. Hopefully next week I will paint in watercolours 😀

Excited to hear of your new endeavors! Thanks for sharing and I will enjoy learning about oils from you now!
Thanks Peggy it’s great to have you along for journey , learning oils should be lots of fun 😀
im soooo glad that you are back and that you are safe patrick sir
Thank you. I appreciate your comment.
Great to see you back again Patrick, glad to see you looking so well, was feeling concerned you might be ill.
Thanks Chris pretty much all fine now. I hope all is well with you.
So good to hear from you. Your water soluble oils are looking great. Being a painter myself I switched from oils to watercolors, what a challenge!
Thanks for your comment. Your brave to switch oils to WC’s I hope your enjoying!
Hi Patrick, great to see you back!!
I really want to start Oil Painting so really looking forward to seeing your new journey. Glad you’re well, all the best, Simon
Thanks very much. I definitely recommend the WMO it’s a lot less hassle. Get stuck in and have fun. All the best.
Really good to see you again. I was concerned; you look well, sound well and enthusiastic about your work. I love your oils. They are fresh and dappled with light and life.
I have always moved from or incorporated varied media in what I'm doing .So, bravo and look forward to more.
Thank you, Patrick.
Thanks Kathleen, I’m much better now and as you say much more enthusiastic with my painting. Hopefully better work to come over the coming weeks.
Hi Patrick glad to hear that you are well. Good luck with your new painting direction.
Lovely words Vivienne thank you for your comment 😄
Thanks!
Paula
I’m pleased to hear your back painting Paula I hope all is well now. Keep an eye out for upcoming videos.
Thanks Barbra it’s great feeling enthusiastic again and creating paintings
Lovely to see you again! It's so nice you're trying something different and they look amazing! Especially the horse one!
Many thanks Rosa.
Glad you are well! Thanks for sharing your journey......
So good to see you again! Hope you’re well!
Thank you. Hope your well too 😀
Thanks for the update! You’ve been missed. 💕🤗
Thanks Chris. I’ve genuinely appreciated all the lovely comments I’ve received. Thank you 😀
Welcome back. I started with oil, then tried watercolor. Just couldn't get watercolor. So then acrylic. I like acrylic painting. I don't have to wait long for the painting to dry. But see.s flat. My favorite is oil, but hate the fumes. So I guess I can try the water based oils.
You could use refined walnut oil as diluent or turpenoid natural is non toxic
With the WMO you can get away with just using water to thin the paint, but not to much. I also use water mixable linseed oil helps lay down subsequent layers.
Hi , so great to see you again!
Thank you Anthea
Great to see you back. I have been trying to learn watercolour but dabbling in oil as well. I see no reason why I cant do both so good news for me.
Beautiful oils but looking forward to more watercolors!
Thank you. Watercolours will b coming I promise!
glad to see you again. Glad to see you well.
Thank you very much. It’s good to be back and enjoying painting.
Great to see you again, your right it is good to have a go in other mediums, I've tried acrilic's inks and some colarge but still like water colour because it's easy to clear up afterwards. Well impressed with your oil painting, take care.
Thanks Martyn. It’s good to be back.
Thank you Nancy. Swapping mediums hopefully will make me a better watercolour artist. Time will tell!
I really enjoy watching your videos and seeing all of your art work, i hope to be able to paint like you one day. Keep up the good work! :)
Anxiously awaiting those videos. Thanks for the brand advice on WMO paint.
Love your plein aire oil painting s. Fantastic ‘
Glad to hear you're well! Welcome back!
Thank you. Feeling a lot better now 😀
I’m making transition from pastels to watersoluable oils en plein air....the only time I seem to make time for my art ! Look forward to following your journey.....sad to say watercolours still cause me grief!
Love your oils fabulous
Thanks Anthea. En Plein air is the way to go. It’s just beautiful to be in the countryside painting. Watercolours are challenging but when it clicks they do much fun to work in.
Hi Patrick you do lovely paintings do you use watercolour mixable oils with water or minerals thankyou!
So pleased to see you back.
Thanks Evelyn it’s good to be back. 😀
I think it's exciting to try other mediums, I enjoyed the ones you showed.
Thanks very much. I’m enjoying going back to basics and learning again I’m sure it’s going to help improve my watercolours too.
Great to see you back Patrick, been a long time.
Thanks Ira, I hope all is well with you and your enjoying your painting 😀
Thanks Walt I think the horse is my favourite too although I was getting rather tight and careful when painting it. I want to stay loose in my style.
I think this medium is one that really suits your style - really fresh style!
Thank you. I do feel comfortable painting in oils. I’m enjoying the learning process.
I'm happy to see you back!
Thank you Phyllis 😅
Just came across your channel and I just started oils from watercolor lol.
Welcome back 😉
Thank you Renalyn. Hope all is well with you.
Even I'm jumping between oils, pastels and watercolour.... confused.,...which is for me?
It’s hard to say both have there challenges. I would say pastels would be better as your not facing the drying problem. Gives you time to think and plan . Hope that helps
Such a lovely video...will continue to follow you even though oil is your focus for the time being. Your style is so unpretentious and it makes an amateur like myself feel more confident 😊
Thank you for staying interested in my work. I promise there will be watercolours soon in the near future. Hopefully next week I will paint in watercolours 😀
@@PatrickLeyGreaves Looking forward to it already 😊
BOY, Patrick - those are NICE!!! ( I am an oil painter)
Thank you Elisabeth it’s always good to get positive comments from a fellow artist.
WMOs arent as easy to get a hold of so i use gamsol. only smell is linseed as the canvas is wet, and i quite like the smell.
Excellent, especially if you like the smell. All the best with your work.
Watercolor?
