What is level of service (LOS)?

In this short video, I explain what level of service (LOS) is.
Another metric like VMT is Level of service (LOS). LOS is a qualitative measure used to measure the quality of motor vehicle traffic service. LOS is used more as a metric to analyze traffic flow delay along roadways and intersections by categorizing traffic flow and assigning quality levels based off of traffic flow.
While LOS has been the standard throughout transportation planning, more recently, VMT has overtaken it as the most ideal measurement of transportation service more recently.

How could LOS even be realistically counted unless someone knew how long every different persons' trip was...
