I had a spinal epidural abscess and the ER doctor tried to send me home, told me to take a Tylenol. I asked to see a surgeon. He came down, took one look at me, then took me straight to the OR. Doctors need to listen to their patients without judgement. People’s lives are on the line.
Had the same experience twice. I was in a trama ER the first time and I couldn't walk and they didn't want to do a MRI sent me home with the same shit. 5 days later still couldn't walk went to another doctor he sent me to get a MRI ASAP. Went back to the same hospital for the MRI for the second time. Next thing I know knew I was on the table at midnight with the on call surgical team coming in to work on me because I was so bad off and walking again wasn't looking good. I was able to walk after 6 months. Then May of last year my back gave out again. I knew exactly what happened went straight to the ER for a MRI in a different state. They said the same thing. I threatened the ER doctor and said if you don't give me a MRI I will sue because I know what has happened I need a picture on how bad it is so I can further my health. He let me do the MRI he came back saying yeah you have 4 discs that are not in place and one is almost completely out. I looked at him and said I know my body I have done this before don't you ever do this to anyone like me again. He looked scared and I hope so because my life could have been over. They wanted to fuse me I said no so looked into other options. I did steam cell treatment with postural therapy (much different than physically therapy). Now look and act like nothing has ever happened to me! Now heading in a few days to get my tubes tied because my back can't handle carrying a kid. I am now in the best shape of my life because I am more aware of my body and how it works.
Seeing 90 patients a day, all 90 patients are gonna think theyre special and need surgery. Sorry to hear that about you, but 1 person falling through the cracks is better than delaying the whole system so no one gets adequate service.
