There’s another way that you can play rhythm guitar aside from just strumming chords, and it’s not as complicated as some people make it out to be. In fact, professional players do this technique all the time and it can be narrowed down in just 2-steps.
In this lesson, I’m going to show you how to approach and follow-up chord hits by using short melodic scale runs. After you learn this technique you’ll no longer ‘only’ do strumming on chords.
Guitar students tend to invest too much time in chasing solos and not enough time invested in learning about rhythm guitar.
However, we can combine both topics by blending scales & chords together to produce a more melodic rhythm guitar style using, “approach & follow up” phrases between the chords.
This “blending method” is capable of producing smooth and highly melodic chord changes through combined scale runs that approach or follow the chords.
There are 2 steps that every blended phrase uses, (and that you will need to copy if you want to unlock the path to adding this technique to your playing).
First, master the chords that will be approached or followed. Second, learn to visualize the scale tones necessary for melodic lines. Know them perfectly.
