I absolutely love the hair. PLEASE don't let anyone take it away from you. I needed to find your channel when I did this year and it really changed so much for me. I hope you know that you and your content provides so many people a space to heal from the pain that often underlies overconsumption. Your work is truly so important. THANK YOU.

After you mentioned the Gucci lipsticks a while ago, I looked at them on the Sephora website and I totally get it - the packaging, the names (!), the colors. But what really made me happy was that the models they used had noticeably asymmetrical faces. I always see very symmetrical faces in beauty advertising and to see asymmetry was so refreshing.

To me the hair is giving me the transition from the 60s to the 70s, like that growing out stage from the harsher more blunt cuts to the longer more feathered type of hair styles I think it looks great, very done but not fussy or too perfect looking I enjoy it personally.

I’ve enjoyed make up since my teens, and I would absolutely describe myself as interested above average, but I have learned a lot this last year as well. Ageing eyes and skin forced me to learn new techniques, for example. One thing I’ve learned from you and your channel is placing make up in an aesthetic discourse rather than hiding it away because it is seen as superficial in some of my cultural and political contexts. I like that.

I totally agree! I teach journalism and I put together a scenario based on the makeup industry for my students to write an online article about (many of them had articulated that they hoped to work in public relations in the beauty industry and one of my students wrote her senior thesis about the beauty industry and advertising). I thought the scenerio was a great business journalism story AND a great PR scenario. So many of them loved it because many of them are really into makeup as a hobby. One person complained. And he happened to be really passionate about sports. I asked him how come it's okay to take sports so seriously but not makeup? I asked him to think of what's different about the two things.I think he got it as did all my fellow makeup enthusiasts in the class.

@@bonbauman4638 That’s a really cool assignment! I have a MA in journalism with a specialization in culture journalism, writing mostly music and literary criticism and culture analysis (in my first language, ie not english). I can’t think of a single time I’ve written about make up during the years I worked in the field (now working in PR and communications).

This year you taught me that a tiny amount of highly pigmented concealer can cover my redness without feeling heavy on my skin. This has been a revelation!! I don’t like the feeling of base makeup on my skin, so I always gravitated towards tinted moisturisers on the assumption that they would feel the most lightweight. However, they still always feel like I’m wearing foundation and they don’t fully cancel my redness. Having never owned a high-coverage base product, I recently bought the Rose Inc concealer. It took me a while to figure out how to apply it in a sheer way. For example, it looks cakey if I apply it with my fingers or a paddle foundation brush. I recently tried a large fluffy eyeshadow blending brush to apply a quarter of a dot of the concealer on my nose, cheeks and chin where my face is the most red. It looked so natural, fully covered my redness, and felt like I was barely wearing any makeup. Thank you so much for this insight. You are the thinking-woman’s beauty guru

So much of what you’ve said on the triggers for your spending habits has resonated for so long… but because I could (/can) afford it, it has been easier for me to continue the same destructive habits. But over the past few days, enforced isolation away from my home country (and family & friends) over Christmas has forced me to confront what my spending habits would “normally” look like over this time and a couple of your videos finally pushed me over the edge

I'm relatively new to your channel, and there are so many things that I love about it, but one of the things that I love the most is that you feel like someone I know in real life who has lived her life and is offering genuine, well-pondered, extraordinarily articulated advice on beauty (an un/intentional metaphor for life). I am in love with this best of beauty concept.
Your videos have been inspiring me to step outside my comfort zone a lot when it comes to colour. I'm finding I actually prefer colors on the cooler end of neutral rather than warmer ones and I haven't repurchased my old signature red lipstick yet because I've been using a blackberry (Moonseed by Rituel de Fille) one I think I might prefer. I never in a hundred years thought I would love such a dark purple lipstick. Who even am I? 😂

Giiiirl, I will snatch that wig right off your head, I LOVE THE HAIR! It’s called Fashion, honey. 💅🏻 This was a great treat today! Wasn’t expecting content during the holidays but great foe is single folk with no family around. 🎭 1) I am gonna buy that concealer and the Auric Glow Lust before I start my no-buy. I don’t have a single thing that actually matches my skin tone. And I’ll be able to give my gently used make up to my sister. She’s always happy to get more to play with. 2) I definitely wanna swatch those Gucci lipsticks but I’m not sure my Sephora has them. It’s a relatively small store. But, like you mentioned with face products, I’m always looking for Very pigmented lip products. They, as well, can always be sheered out, mixed with, glossed over. But a pigmented matte in a flattering shade is everything! Especially when doing the mostly bare face but with a lip, which I enjoy. 💋

Taupe lip colors are AMAZING for olive skin!!! My favorites are cinnamon roll from NYX, tower 28 almond milky jelly gloss (more neutral light brown), and the dose of color lip gloss in seriously. Also!! Nyx lip liner in moonwalk used lightly to line the lips before gloss is amazing, AND Nyx eye pencil in taupe used as lip liner 💌 hope this helps!!!

Your hair is life - it lights you up because you love it and it just has so much texture and personality! I feel that emollient texture is the key - I also have dry skin and have tried this approach with some products and it doesn’t work with things that are too matte because the product catches and flattens in places. I may try the Rose Inc since it is now available here in NZ and I can swatch before buying.
My revelation this year (assisted by you Hannah) is that I love an all shimmer look ✨✨
Edit: i also learned to lean into having long lower lashes and looking like an actual doll you’d find in a haunted house…

i'm obsessed with your hair, i think it's flattering on your face shape and has a weird/perfect combo of obviously styled but somehow unkempt. there's this concept sprezzatura that i learned about in a rennaissance literature class approximately ten thousand years ago, that basically is ~studied carelessness~ or the art of looking fantastic but unfussy, and your hair gives me that in the best way.

I have spent more than I should have this past year. I realize shopping for me can be an emotional crutch. I also just like nice things. Your channel has been so helpful to me and I have to thank you. While I enjoy watching many YT beauty influencers I had to almost stop once the Sephora Sale and Black Friday hit. I felt I was just bombarded with too many things. I discovered your channel in the past month and I feel it was a real Zen moment for me. I have decluttered and now have only things I really love. I honestly don't have the need to buy anything new. I could probably go the entire year and not even need to replace anything. I plan to do a very limited buy this next year. I need to use up things before anything new comes in. And when something new comes in it will be from a brand I know and really love and not a cheap thrill spend to get a dopamine hit. I honestly just can't thank you enough for your channel! And huge bonus points for mentioning Drag Race, my absolute favorite show! I hope you have a wonderful new year!

I love your hair! I have textured hair, and I wish I could pull off a haircut like this. Unfortunately, my hair is much more curly and it wouldn't look the same. I also love that you rock your hair despite what anyone else thinks. That's what everyone should be doing, making themselves happy, not everyone else.

Taupe lip products are absolutely my colour and I would really appreciate an in depth taupe lip gloss review, as I have struggled over the years with typical brown lip gloss shades and this video has made me realise that taupe lip gloss is probably for me and I would greatly appreciate knowing your thoughts on what is out there so I can purchase the best one for me.

You are a revelation, Hannah. I’ve been watching many of your videos in my down town over the holidays and oh my, I have learned so much. I have forever been on the search for a perfect (or at least acceptable) foundation and I have yet to find one. I am pretty sure my ideal base product is exactly what you described as your ideal. I am excited to get home to my makeup and try some concoctions rather than my traditional foundations. Thank you!!

I’ve been watching you for quite some time now and I rarely comment on YT videos period, I just play them in the background as I get dressed or cook dinner or clean my house….but I had to comment this time. As a natural redhead with blonde brows and lashes, I felt your comments on a LEVEL about wearing no eye makeup and having that as a look. I just turned 39 and it took me all these years to finally embrace that and actually LIKE it. I was always this person that felt I had to “fix” things by at LEAST wearing mascara before I left my house, no matter WHERE I was going. It EMBARRASSED me for someone to see my natural face with no pigment on it. For the first 2 years of my marriage I even slept with mascara because I wouldn’t dare let my husband see me without lashes! Sad now that I think about that. But anyway, YEAH, there’s something about maturing and really starting to appreciate some of these things about my uniqueness that feels really, really good. I enjoy your content so much and relate to you on so many levels. I did also purchase Gucci Goldie Red very recently and have been thrilled with it. Goldie was my grandmothers name so it drew me in for many reasons. But it’s so easy to wear in that formula and I love everything about it. And I don’t own anything else like it. Let me wrap up this comment, I’ll never stop talking. Thanks for being you and sharing!🙏🏻

I am new to your channel but love it !! I have learned so much from the no buy videos and I relate to everything that made you do it. I am going to do it as well. Shopping is so out of hand and RUclips has made it 10 times worse and all those products that we buy buy buy are mostly wasted because no way you can use them all or even give them all away such a waste of money 💰 and nothing I have ever bought has changed my life like I was lead believe it would or wanted to believe it would. Thanks for being so open and honest about your journey.
Love the hair! It looks good on you.
    Happy New Year 🥳

Commenting midway through watching because I'm sure I'll forget otherwise... Ami Colé's "lip oil" is a lovely neutral brown lip gloss (really not an oil imo, hence the quotation marks), which I think might fit in beautifully with your burgeoning taupe lip gloss collection.
Also I freaking love your hair. That a shag can be controversial is a big part of its appeal, no? Because it doesn't look like every other YT creator's loose, beachy waves 🙄 I'm here for the late 70s, feminist working mom of it all.

I love your hair!!!!! This year, I went through a buzzcut, a grown-out scruffy pixie cut, a baby mullet, a full-on mullet, and I finally hit shag stage! Let me tell you, I’ve had the most fun with all the funky hair looks I’ve had! It looks out there, not the typical thing you see every day, sort of 70s at times, but still interesting and fun! So rock your shag! Go full mullet one day! You’ve have lots of fun and at the very least, lots to talk about lmao

I’d like to add to your olive undertone that your skin is also soft in the soft v clear spectrum. This was a game changer for me learning exactly why some reds make me look whory gory.

I am obsessed with your hair cut! you have the perfect hair texture for a shag, but admittedly I have also been obsessed with my own shag over the past year too lol. I also discovered taupe lip gloss because of a deeply discounted Marc Jacobs lip gloss at TJ Maxx in the shade "Work It" - I'm sure it's hard to find right now but it's really beautifully and softly grungy and was definitely a top product for me this year. Taupe glosses are def underrated and you make me want to try Trixie's! I wanted so much to like the Big Mood mascara but it is soooo smudgy and transfers so much onto my lower lids almost immediately, which is such a shame because it really looks beautiful when first applied 😭
