- This is the thirteenth in a series of Sonic character profiles. Unlucky number thirteen! In this video we'll be taking a look at Shortfuse the Cybernik, one of the British Fleetway Sonic the Comic's greatest heroes. Shortfuse started life as hot-headed Shorty the Squirrel and became Fleetway's answer to Marvel's Iron Man Let me know in the comments who you want me to talk about next!

In this video we'll be taking a look at "Shortfuse the Cybernik" in Sonic the Comic. We'll cover Shortfuse's first appearance and transformation into a Cybernik, his first few adventures, his time teaming with the Freedom Fighters and his cameo in the Archie comics!

It's a really bad habit of his.
The Niceniks, a Roller badnik, the Brotherhood of Metallix, Commander Brutus, Citizen One all turned on STC Robotnik.
@@SONICX1027 they sort of rebelled at one point but that was in the sonic boom animated series. One was them making a choice for themselves and then the other time was when they were mind controlled
Shortfuse was a great character. He is a real member of the freedom fighter despite being temporary
I kinda want to hear you talk about Metamorphia, she sounds like an interesting character. As for Shortfuse he had an amazing character and story and I was happy for him when he was free from the suit.
God Metamorphia ruled, Fleetway's OCs were a step above!
I’m still waiting for Grimer. I wanna know all about him. And I love your videos also ones for Johnny Lightfoot and Porker Lewis as well since I know they where also main characters of the comic

Shortfuse and techno are the two characters from Sonic the comic I'd really want to make appearances in game. Up there with Cosmo from Sonic X and the return of Sally Acorn. Tangle and whisper are okay but the four characters listed above are actually cool.
Yeah, I'd love to see more of Fleetway's version of Sally Acorn!

@@gracekim25 Sally Acorn from fleetway is just a regular animal. Sally Acorn from the Freedom fighters is an actual character like Sonic or Tails.
In terms of his legacy, Shortfuse is set to appear in a Sonic crossover fan film called Sonic Villains. That's looking pretty good.
I really want to see this characrer again. Maybe in a new sonic comic series?

He's definitely a little edgy like Shadow but Shortfuse never had a villainous streak. Glad to hear you're coming around to the Fleetway comics.
OH MY GOD!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU COVERED THIS CHARACTER!!
I first learned of him from a poster a guy notorious for telling tall tales had in my childhood, who told me his name was Fuse, I didn't have internet back then, but i didn't super believe the guy and still hadn't seen this character appear in the comics, but oh my god did I love his design, I just made up my own headcanon for him and played as him in our childhood RP battles... (We've all had those right? "I'm red ranger/whoever" "nuh-uh that didn't hit me I used forcefield!" etc xD)
I can't believe I forgot about this guy! In the few comics I managed to get hold of he was one of my all time favorites! Thanks for giving him the spotlight he always deserved
One of my fave characters finally gets the spotlight! Seriously him, Ebony and Tekno were three characters I feel Deserved to have lived on through some sort of media! They were so different and unique and seemed to have extra depth to their character I felt lacking from the original cast.
Tekno sure has a unique design. I like her looks.
@@BComet Personally I loved Ebony, she was a kind and caring person who happened to be a witch and wish we had seen more of her.
I like how robotnik had a button that could short circuit him the whole time but only decides to use it after his egg mobile has taken damage
Interesting, I love the Fleetway Comics and it’s great to hear more from you. He reminds me a little of Protoman from the Mega Man series, who was also a tragic loner robot (his JP name was literally Blues) who was the prototype for the humanoid robots we see in the series. He runs away from Thomas Light (Rock/Mega Man’s future creator) and gets captured by Albert Wily (the villain that builds and reprograms robots for his own purposes) and made into an evil robot called Break Man. They manage to revive him, but, since he is a prototype, a defect in his system causes him pain and is slowly killing him. Maybe it was the MvC gameplay in the background that helped me make the connection, or maybe just that I like the series. Anyway, great video

Although my comment isn't about the Shortfuse character, I'd like to share a bit of trivia about the Fleetway Comics.
Here in Portugal, a book publisher named Porto Editora actually released at least one comic book with the Sonic Fleetway comics translated to Portuguese. I don't have a copy, but I wanted to get my hands on one just to see if there's any difference (either a detail unique to the Portuguese translation or the omission of another detail from the UK original).
Johnny Vector, I don't know if you read every comment, but I just wanted to share this bit of information.
Interestingly, I don't think there's anything in Portugal related to the Archie Comics, unless the Sonic SatAM series counts, but only one episode from the subtitled version survived and the European Portuguese dub of that series is lost.
Thanks for the comment. I have seen a few copies of the German Fleetway reprints but it'd be interesting to see what the Portuguese versions are like. If you ever dig up any more info give me a shout.
@@JohnnyVector I'll see what I can do. They're not common on the 2nd hand market (and I don't have enough money due to my studies in the university), but I'll try to get a copy and see if there's anything interesting!

I've got so much love for Shortfuse. His design is absolutely amazing. A really talented music artist on youtube somewhere (who used to create lots of sonic/trance songs) uses his design as his profile pic too- though haven't seen anything from the chap for years...
100% sure if the comic continued shortfuse would have fought against the E-Series

I always loved seeing shortfuse in the sonic the comic’s! Since the fleetway comics have become something of an obscure cult classic for most sonic fans, it’s nice to know I was a part of all that when they were coming out. Still got about 14-15 issues lying around somewhere!
He was a great character. I always thought he had a similar personality to Depthcharge from Beast Wars: Transformers. A tough moody loner, hated taking orders, not a team player and his top priority was fighting an arch-enermy, even above the safety of his comrades.
I made a Shortfuse suit when I was a kid he was my favourite Fleetway character.

The fact this character's superhero persona now shares the same name as one of the newly introduced Paradox Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet is really funny to me.
Damn Shortfuse is such a cool character. I am making my own funny sonic series called "Sonrick and friends" and he may or may not appear in one of the episodes.

Yeah for sure. A lot of people have asked about Tekno so she is the most likely one I'll cover soon.

It was Issue #134 where Shortfuse made a cameo in the Archie Sonic Comics. Like you said, he appeared as a cameo when Sonic explained about that the Bem aliens deroboticized the Mobians.
Fleetway Sonic made a cameo as his alter ego, Bob Beaky.
Fleetway Amy can been seen talking to Tekno and Ebony. I presume it's the Fleetway version because her clothes match the ones Amy wore in Fleetway's adaption of Sonic Adventure.
Also, you can find Pyjamas and Metamorphia in a crowd.

Issue #134 of Archie Sonic is an StC cameo smorgasbord, with Tekno being most prominent thanks to Amy calling her by her name (plus a second cameo in #138 a few months later)

Fun fact: Shortfuse aswell as Enerjak from the Archie comics, were both took inspiration from the Darth Vader character design.

You probably get asked this A lot but is there any way to read these now other than spending hundreds on ebay? Thanks to your channel I now know what I used to read back in the 90's. I'm sure like many searching for Sonic the comic on Amazon or something similar finding compilations of the Archie comic and thinking this looks wrong but not knowing it was different.
It would be great to read through these again and the later issues I never saw.

Side note: I found another fan-made comic continuing Fleetway Sonic. It's called "Sonic the Continuation", and it not only continues where Sonic the Comic left off, but it also introduces characters from the modern Sonic games, cartoons, (and also TMNT, for some reason). Right now, it's on its 18th issue, in the middle of their adaptation of Sonic Adventure 2

Great video as always. I especially enjoy how British this channel is. Being a Brit myself its good to see some quality YT sonic content that isn't yanky.
Also, I just want to say I saw the 2nd Sonic movie a few nights ago. No spoilers obviously but I will say; it wasn't really my kind of thing but most of the choices I understood. Most of the complaints I had could easily be trivialised with "its a kids movie ya dolt".
Except one. The music sucks ass and I do not understand why. I don't even mean the licenced ST (which was also bad). I mean the soundtrack made for the movie. All of it was bland, boring and forgettable orchestral music.
Sonic 1 and 2 have some of the best music ever made. Sonic 3's music however... I can't even begin to describe how much I love it. If Sonic 3&K's ost was a person, I'd marry them.
So, to throw all of this iconic music in the trash and only to be heard ONCE as a fucking reference on a ring tone was a fucking insult. Yes I know sonic 3 Michael Jackson blah blah blah.
But Sonic 1 and 2?! You are telling me you couldnt at least put some of the melodies in the music?!?

I dislike shortfuse as he is perfect and constantly say good thing I am perfect and had a chance to kill Robotnik and says if only we can do something when he could but didn’t he also has no character besides kill Robotnik and occasionally when the writers want him to a short temper
Shortfuse and Techno? I always got the impression Techno and Amy were the ones hinted to have a thing for eachother.
And ew - the Archie comics. Let us please not mention them in the same sentence as our beloved STC.
