    Great work!
    I have it setup okay in Studio One v6.5 and Bandlab cakewalk except I cannot get the colors to follow bank when I change bank or channel. I have 1 X-touch and 2 Extenders setup and connected properly in RtpMidi and using the "1 logical controller mode max8 patch" and the colors all show up in proper order on the scribble strips once I press the "read new data" button in XtouchColour. Within Studio one and Cakewalk all X touch/extender controls work fine, and the controllers are ordered correctly. I opened my project (song) and added audio tracks to reach 48 tracks total. 23 tracks are in use the others are empty audio tracks. I saved the song and closed. I then set XtouchColour to (48 Tracks in Daw Project) and 24 bank switch tracks. I press the "read new data" button.
    The only problem is when I bank, or channel switch the controls work as expected but the color does not move with the banks or channels. Any ideas? Again, Studio One latest version as of this writing and in Bandlab Cakewalk with the same results: No errors on launch of the patch or DAW software, all channels are properly ordered, bank and channel switching work from the console.
    Thank you again for this very informative video and all of your hard work! I am so close to getting this working in Studio One I can taste it.

    Hi! I have Xtouch+ Studio One. Everything works perfectly according to the Mackie Control protocol. Connected via USB. I saw your video about adding color to my work and was very happy - it’s convenient. I downloaded your standalone version, installed it in the right place, but when I launch 1 logical controller (up to 3 units).exe I get the error: midi_mme error 7 opening midi input device X-Touch ; midi_mme error 7 opening midi output device X-Touch. What could be the matter?

      Hi,
      start X-Touch Colour and make shure that under "file" / "MIDI-Setup" your MIDI-ports are assigned correctly. Assign the Input MIDI port to Abbrev b and the Output MIDI port to Abbrev a.

  • @audiophil3761

    Have you configured the MIDI-ports within XTouchColour correctly? You have to configure ports a, b, c (for three controllers as in your case) for both MIDI Inputs and Outputs according to my XTouchColour MIDI-Configuration chart.
    You mentioned that you configured XTouchColour with 24 bank switch amount of tracks. So I assume that you want to use all three controllers as one logical controller with 3x8 faders?
    In this case you have to use the "1 logical controller" version. The "2 logical controller" version you have to use when you want to split up your controllers to switch independantely (with max 2 logical controllers.)
    I hope this will help.

    • @Polecat201

      Yes I believe I have setup the Midi ports correctly and even changed the ordered IDs in the spreadsheet to match my setup EXT1 - EXT2 - X-Touch. I mistyped in my original question. I am in fact using the 1 logical controller configuration as you outlined in the video. I have since tried this with Bandlab cakewalk with the same result. All controls work perfectly and in the correct order in both cakewalk and Studio one, colors load as outlined in the spreadsheet on the scribble strips but do not move with bank or channel switching. I will post screens of my configuration in a few hours for confirmation.
      I am so impressed with your work that I will not rest until I get it working properly in Studio One. Thank you so much for your response, I will provide further information and screens in my second reply later so as not to waste any of your time.
      ~Paul

      The problem was I did not configure the Midi Ports according to the configuration chart as you suggested. It is now working in Studio One! One more question, I opened the "Configuration 1 logical controller (EXT1_XTOUCH_EXT2).xlsm and edited the third fader to be Cyan instead of black but when I switch banks one over to the right it is black again. How do I edit so that the color holds for the bank switch?
      Brilliant work and thank you again for your help!

      @@Polecat201 As long as you execute the makro after changing the colour code within the excel spreadsheet and as long as you take care that both within the DAW and in XTouchColour the bank switch amount of tracks is defined as 24 and as long you are defining the amount of tracks within XTouchColour the same as in your DAW there should be no problems.

    I think its something to do with midi setup for standalone. Ive nit seen anything about setting that up on the video. Ive read the pdf but its all guess work. Can you please clarify this? I did manage to get tracks 1_6 showing green which confused me as this isnt how the default is coloured.

      I am not familiar with Logic but make shure to configure the xtouch with MC (Mackie Control). Then it should work with logic instantly.
      Otherwise there are several videos on youtube dealing with the connection of the xtouch with logic.
      When you succeeded to connect the xtouch with logic, xtouchColour (what this video is originally about) will do as well.

      I am pleased that my video was helpful.
      As I mentioned earlier in this commentary section my tool will work with any DAW. The only requirement is that your controllers are configured within your DAW and are working properly with the DAW.
      My tool only adds colour to the scribble strips.
      So you could buy a switch but in your case you don´t have to. As long as you have clearly different MIDI port names for your controllers (for the Extenders) everything will work fine.
      When using the xtouch and one extender via USB and one extender via ethernet (RTPmidi) you can achieve this. (You probably have done this already)

I have 2 extenders (1 using ethernet, 1 using USB) and an X-Touch using the USB connection. The colors are now working perfectly and the good news is that the button "Channel" was not working with Cubase and now it works perfectly. So thanks again and good continuation.

    Hallo. Super Video.

      I do not have a Xtouch one available so I can not check this. But it should work, as long as the MIDI massages used for fader bank / channel switch are the same for the xtouch and the xtouch one (what I guess but what I do not know).
      According to the MIDI manual of the Xtouch one the MIDI device id which is 14 (HEX) for the Xtouch is 41 (HEX) for the Xtouch one.
      Because you have to enter the device ID within the configuration excel file (use the 1 logical controler version) as decimal values try to use 65 (instead of 20 for Xtouch).

    Hi, Thanks for sharing the amazing video. Are you using Windows system? I have 1 unit of X-Touch and 2 units Extender as well.. But unfortunately, I'm not able to connect the second extender, appreciate if you could share how u connect it, Thanks! ( I'm using Sonar/Pro tools )

    • @audiophil3761
      @audiophil3761  Год назад +2

      Hi,
      yes, I am using a Windows system. And therefore the standalone version of XtouchColour is made for the windows platform as well.
      Have you got problems of connecting the three units within sonar/Pro tools?
      If this is the case you have to find out within sonar/Pro tools how to connect three DAW-controllers with your DAW.
      So it is a necessary pre-condition that your three controllers are working properly with you DAW für XtouchColor to work properly as well.
      In my case first I had problems with connecting the second extender with my DAW as well (which is not Sonar/pro tools) because when connecting all three untits via USB I realized that both extenders had the same MIDI-name within my DAW.
      For that reason I decided to use rtpMIDI as explained in my video (11:00 - 20:00).
      If the connection between your DAW and the three controllers is working properly it might be helpfull to have a look a the MIDI-configuration chart which I provide within the download section as a PDF-file.
      Perhaps you can try that and when there are still problems you can just come back to me.

    So i think ive managed to get the colours to work between the standalone and the hardware...however when i then load Cakewalk it has an issue with the xtouch midi driver and unloads it therefore disabling the connection between the hardware and Cakewalk. Im so close. This error is only there if xcolour is running. Anyone using Cakewalk seen this issue?

    • @audiophil3761
      @audiophil3761  Год назад

      There are several posts on the web dealing with that issue. Seems to happen more or less only with cakewalk. It is not a problem of XTouchColour but of cakewalk.
      Probaply cakewalk does not allow to use the same midi port in a second app simultaniously in your case.
      One post I found:
      Cakewalk by BandLab Help Center Troubleshooting Devices
      “There is not enough memory…”
      April 08, 2023 15:54
      Windows 7 users may see “There is not enough memory for this task” or similar messaging when connecting and attempting to use MIDI devices. While this is uncommon, this is normally linked to a limitation of MIDI ports.
      A simple solution would be to always connect your device in the same physical MIDI port you used previously. It’s good practice to always connect your devices prior to launching Cakewalk by BandLab, and following a similar setup each time you open the program will reduce inconsistencies in operation or functionality.
      A more complex look into this issue would involve checking out the Device Manager in Windows, and looking specifically for any duplicates to uninstall. Similarly, you can look for hidden devices using this method:
      Open Notepad
      Enter the following:
      set devmgr\_show\_nonpresent\_devices=1
      start Devmgmt.msc
      Choose File > Save As
      Change Files of Type to All Files, choose an easy to identify location like your desktop, then type hidden.BAT as your file name and click OK.
      Right-click the file from your desktop and choose Run as Administrator. This should open the Device Manager
      Go to View > Show Hidden, then locate the devices you’re no longer using and choose Uninstall
      Beside this it maybe worth trying to use rtpMIDI (Network connection) instead of USB.

    • @jasepotts2865
      @jasepotts2865 Год назад

      @audiophil3761 thanks for that information I'll look into it. I've found if I close max before running xtouchcolour it will load without error. However, moving from track to track doesn't move the corresponding colours. E.g if track 1 is red and 2 is blue and I move to the right then 2 is red instead of remaining blue. Do you know why?

    • @audiophil3761
      @audiophil3761  Год назад

      @@jasepotts2865 First of all:
      When you are using the standalone version you do not need to run Max seperately.
      When XTouchColour opens it will open two windows: a large grey window which is the runtime and the GUI-Window.
      You can close the runtime window, it is not needed.
      The idea in principle: When your DAW controller works properly together with your DAW (e.g. all faders move, you can use fader bank and/or channel switch up or down, you have transport control, the scribble strips are showing the designation of your tracks which you defined within your DAW - but of course only monocrome etc.) XTouchColour adds only
      colour to the scribble strips.
      So when e.g. your first Xtouch fader controls track 1 or your DAW and your are are moving all tracks lets say one to the right with the channel buttons of the Xtouch, fader 1 should now control track 2. And therefore, after using the channel button, the writing of fader 2 is moving to fader 1 and so does the colour as well.
      This is the basic behaviour or XtouchColour, following the behaviour of your Xtouch controller when controlling your DAW.
      Important is that you may have to define how many faders are one bank (8 in your case) within the DAW if you want to use the fader bank buttons as well and XTouchColour shall follow.
      (There are DAW on the market, in which you can define an "absolute" mode. That means you can only switch banks and not channel by channel.
      Therefore there is a switch whithin XTouchColour -left side - you have to configure accordingly.
      Default is "no absolute mode" that means you can switch channel by channel.
      Also take care that within XTouchColour the exact amount if tracks within your DAW project has to be defined, otherwise the colour information will run "out of sync" at each track-end of your project.
      Last not least do not forget to define within XtouchColour the bank size as well (8 in your case)

      @jasepotts2865 Год назад

      @@audiophil3761 Firstly I would like to thankyou for the help you gave. I have found that there is definitley a sharing issue. I tried everything you suggested and this is what I've found.
      1) The X Touch will only send and receive on either USB or MIDI in/out NOT both so you cannot trick it by using a separate midi device. Meaning sharing is a must.
      2) If I load your project up first then Cakewalk gives the memory error - which basically means that the X Touch USB is being used by your program. However, your program does change the colours! However, I now have no control with the X TOuch.
      3) If I load Cakewalk first then Max says it cannot comunicate with the Xtouch midi port....as it's being used by cakewalk.
      It's a real shame as it looks great. Thanks again!

    • @audiophil3761
      @audiophil3761  Год назад +1

      @@jasepotts2865 I see. Obviously an issue of Cakewalk.
      Perhaps, as I mentioned earlier, you can try not using USB or MIDI in/out but the RJ45 - connection and doing MIDI over Ethernet.
      This is supported by the controller. You have to choose rtpMIDI, defining the network settings (see Xtouch manual) and using the rtpMIDI app (I provided the link).
      I use rtpMIDI because I have got one XTouch and 2 Extenders and by using USB, the MIDI ports of both extenders are named the same (which causes problems within the DAW).
      By using rtpMIDI you can name the MIDI ports as you like.
      Perhaps Cakewalk can deal with this solution.

      When you are using Bitwig, you can use of course "Driven by Moss", this solution is implemented very deep into Bitwig (and Reaper).
      When using XTouchColour with Bitwig or Reaper or any other DAW and using the XTouch (XTouch Extender) controller (no other controller is supported) it will add colour to the scribble strips, nothing more and nothing less.

      Step by step schreibe ich nächste Woche, schaffe ich jetzt zeitlich nicht.

      @@thomaskuhangel5644 keine Eile , aber wenn du das machen kannst wäre echt supercool , würde echt gerne diese Farbdisplays/einstellungen verwenden , gibt halt echt nirgends eine vernünftige Erklärung im Netzt wie man das schritt für schritt macht , also ich habe nur X-Touch , und USB ist ja eingestellt , dazu habe ich Cubase 11 Elements , hab gehört das geht nur mit Cubase 12 , weiss aber nicht ob das stimmt , hab momentan noch zusätzlich Cubase 12 Testversion , aber nur für 3 oder 4 Wochen . Danke im vorraus
