  • @peterjowyk637
    @peterjowyk637 Год назад +74

    I put the bananas and water into a blender and blend into fine particles. I do not waste anything. I pour it right around the base of the plant. I also made a tea leaves liquid fertilizer. I love to drink tea. I also pour it around the base of the plant. This is so cool. Why buy fertilizer when YOU can make homemade fertilizer and it's more natural than store bought fertilizer.....I fertilize my tomato plant with these fertilizers and my plant loves them. You should see my aloe plant( it looks like an octopus)....🤣🤣♥️♥️

      I agree, fertilizer is so expensive and easy to make. It's amazing how well the plants react to natural organic fertilizer.

    Just to clarify, you make your concentrated mix of 1 qt distilled/rain/boiled water and 3 peels - let sit for 3+ days. Then you dump this in a large bucket to store it. From there, you do a 1:10 ratio of peel concentrate and water to use weekly on your plants. My question is, when dumping your quart into the storage bucket, do you leave each quarts' peels in the large bucket all summer - just continuing to add to the overall peel amount in storage bucket each time? Does this make the concentrated fertilizer significantly stronger at the end of the season? Thank you for the great video. I found it informative and I love your voice. For those few complaining about the length, I hope you ignore them. They can read your great description info, fast forward, or just skip it. You're sharing all this info free after all. I appreciate your time (and Bob Ross vibe!).

    • @nuttygnomehomestead
      @nuttygnomehomestead  6 месяцев назад +6

      Yes I leave the peels in the bucket all summer. I use it fast enough around here I don't think it has time to get more potent. However, I don't think having a higher concentration of potassium would be a bad thing for most flowering plants. I go through a couple 5 gallon buckets of this every year.

      We go through a lot of our water quickly. We mix up our fertilizer use from the fertilizer bucket into our watering buckets. We do a ratio of 1 to 10 for most of our fertilizers. I keep a bucket of this fertilizer going for about 9 months out of the year. At the end of the season, I dump what's left into the garden and start again in the spring.

  • @HoaxManTheOne

    yeah tbh its pretty fucking cool. my weed really like this :) i think part of why it works isnt only potassium but the sugar that the bacteria can eat and flurish. btw AC runoff (if you can collect it) is top shelf plant watering water too :) basically destilled save a bit of dust. i kid you not, here in humid germany this one mobile unit produces enough runoff to keep like 250 liters of soil on my balcony moist, even in 30°c/90°f heat.

    What's the amount of water in the 5 gal with the 2 qt of banana peel/water concentrate? It doesn't like you've filled the 5 gal bucket.

    • @nuttygnomehomestead
      @nuttygnomehomestead  9 месяцев назад

      When making the concentrated banana water, I use 3 banana peels to 1 quart of rain water. After it is allowed to sit and steep, I can mix my concentrate 1:10 for watering my plants. That would be 2 quarts concentrated banana water to a 5 gallon bucket of rain water. This works well for all flowering plants.

    Thank you for sharing, I am very excited to start doing this. I have a question, how do you do to avoid having rats eating your plants? I have a vegetable processing factory close to my house and they come visit my backyard at night 😢

      Fortunately, we don't have a problem with rats here. Our dog does a pretty good job at running off critters for us.

    Do you add a natural nitrogen to fertilize the plants? If so, what do you use?
    I've been using the banana water on my plants. Love it! Thank you.

    • @nuttygnomehomestead
      @nuttygnomehomestead  9 месяцев назад

      Manure is one of our biggest fertilizers we use. Chicken & rabbit manure are the main two. We also mix up our own organic fertilizers using weeds and grass clippings from the garden and yard. This does well too. But for a quick shot of nitrogen to any of our plants, it is hard to beat homemade fish emulsion. We have a video on how to make it. A little bit goes a long way.

    Can it help from transplant shock?

    • @nuttygnomehomestead
      @nuttygnomehomestead  9 месяцев назад +2

      I'm not sure. I tend not to fertilize when I transplant. The help alleviate transplant shock we tend to plant in the afternoon or on a cloudy day. Water thoroughly to keep the roots from drying out. This has helped us lessen our losses to transplant shock

      Seaweed solution is reputed to be the best to manage transplant shock. It’s not a fertiliser, but rather a soil conditioner.

    Have your soil tested before adding anything to the soil. How much potassium is in banana peel water, if any? Since he did not test the water we don't know.

    • @nuttygnomehomestead

      True, but we look at it as we are making this fertilizer from the discarded part of the snack. I guess essentially considering the peel is ½ of the banana, This fertilizer cost is right at $2 per 5 gallons to make. We can water a lot of plants with a 5 gallon bucket of this fertilizer.
