More building less talking need more videos like this job well done brother
John Davis hell yeah thank you 🍾🙌🏾
I like this. No talking just good footage, sick bike man👌🏻
Richie Ramos thank you 🙌🏾🍾
Magnificent build my friend! And many thanks for a thorough parts breakdown, I'm sure many will appreciate that. Well done.
Obedient Citizen thank you 🙌🏾
Surprised this hasn't popped up on my recommendations before. Well done.Subbed
CHANCE1 216 thank you 🙌🏾🍾
Fair play to you bud I love seeing older bikes given some love, doing a couple of hondas myself and just bought a 2005 cr 250 😎👍
Gazza thank you 🙌🏾
Nice build. I have an '02 CR with the 265 kit from Eric Gorr and a wide ratio tranny and a Lectron carb. The bike works good in the mountains, deserts, and the woods. I'm experimenting with different suspension components now to make it even better.
K C thank you. I swapped out my forks and suspension from a 2003 CRF450R that were revalved and worked on by a shop in LA. Had compression and rebound adjusted for my height and weight. Bike feels right at home for technical riding. Good luck with your tune up.
In the beginning i was iffy about the video, but towards the middle and on youve got my respect points lol I dont think anyone has any idea how long it takes to get all the tools let alone knowledge for half a dirtbike rebuild. Much more than you would think
Charlie riddick My intention was not to go crazy with the commentary by putting myself as the focus of the video. It’s all about the bike and that it’s a backyard build by a regular dude. Thank you for the support 🙌🏾🍾
Great job mate really enjoyed watching you tear that bike down! Clearly you know what your doing, it was a joy to watch. Keep them brilliant two stokes screaming!
Keith D thank you very much 🙌🏾 glad you enjoyed the video
Babal dai babal.. feel so happy to see this thing dai.. lots of love from Nepal..
This bike defines my childhood and era for dirt bikes; Ricky Carmichael’s last 2-stroke run with Honda. I also see the trend for 2-strokes catching on in Nepal. Don’t forget to mention about this video 🤘🏽share and like.
Thanks for the support brother ✊🏽
Sick vid dude! Loved the footage of the pups too
Drew Kleinbach thank you 🍾🙌🏾
Really good video....did you revalve your shock/forks? Send them out? Keep 'em stock? I'm a 72 yr old rider and still like the hit of a 2stroke and rocky trails.....does the bike work as well as you envisioned? Keep the Faith.
Thank you very much. My friend had a 2003 CRF450 which recently had forks and shocks revalved. He was selling it out so I swapped out mine with his and it was a perfect fit. The rear shocks had a higher/stiffer spring rate but it worked out perfectly for my weight including gear. I adjusted the compression rebound to my setting and bikes never been better. And to answer your question, yes bike has actually turned out better than what I envisioned. Initially I just wanted the bike to have a crisp and responsive throttle without the bogging. The late Honda design and size work best for my body size/arm reach..very compact and agile at the same time.
Thank you for the support 🍾🙌🏾
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya Thanks for the info.....I like Hondas.....they really pay attention to making them fit nearly anybody. When I was younger I raced Husqvarna.....had about 6-7 of them. Kinda got me into the European bikes.....everyone used to bitch about the left-hand kick starter but I got used to them. Never did moto....did the long enduros and loved it. Now I'm a beat up old man. Keep on keepin' on....
That looks brutal on the bike.
Respect! I was in Nepal January 2020 and got to ride the Himalayas with Prakash from Bikers Nepal in Kathmandu, we rode CX 250 and also got to meet the owner of CX pasang … I just built a 2002 CR250 and finished it last week 👌🏻
That’s awesome man. Wow small world !! I’m friends with both. Pasang purchased my dad’s FE501 and Prakash let me borrow some essential tools for our 2018 Nepal trip.
How are you liking the CR ?
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya That’s awesome! I figured you were likely to know them with the tight motocross community, My CR250 build is way too fun! I took it out to the track for the 3rd time and it ran flawless, still getting used to riding that powerband (: I remember pasang telling me there weren’t too many 2 strokes out there
@@jtgross2324 that’s nice you track it ! I would like a smaller 125 smoker for the track.
2 strokes were band in Nepal around early 2000s
HUGE INSPO MY MAN. I might just have to copy this whole build wow!!!
Alex Nelson thank you ✊🏽 copy paste enjoy 🍾
Just found this video a bit late on it tho when watching you ride on the rocks I noticed that your back end kept swinging out and side to side try gripping tightly with your knees on the bike and not so much you hands will help on rocky hill climbs. Loved the look of all the bling and other stuff on the bike looked a bit exotic witch made it look good at least its not another old rebuilt bike with every thing matching the color scheme and 2021 plactics
Thank you 🙏🏽 I always remind myself to grip the bike with my legs but the technique fades away as the ride gets longer and tiring.
Beautiful build
John Klause thank you 🙌🏾🍾
Proper rebuild and riding, hats off!
Good work! Slick looking bike
thank you !
Awesome video! Much better then watching someone complain its not a KTM.
Kolton finlinson you mean the dirtbike channel guy!! lol totally agree. And thank you 🍾
I like the way you put your bike together your a good a rider bro
SHANE DICOCHEA thank you 🙌🏾🍾
I have a Wiseco piston in my 2002 Cr80r that I rebuilt like the way you did with your bike
Caleb Bell that’s awesome ! They make good pistons 💪🏽
8:00 you handle it well : it fits you like a glove.
It looks very light and manageable , with incredible power-to-weight.
vinm300 haha nicely said there. Thank you 🙌🏾 yes bike is perfect for my size.
What's up bud? The opening scene is that Hesperia/Oak Hills? Looks like where i ride with friends. Good job on the the bike. I got an 2001 cr250r. Let's ride.
Mike Alwardt hey thank you. And yes that’s oak hill at the intro. That’s a good place for me to tune up my bike with the truck and tools nearby.
I usually ride from silverwood dam area to crab flats and then upto big bear depending on how much free time I have. I also mostly ride down in San Diego with the bros.
I’m down to ride 🤙🏾 and also 01 CRs have badass motors 🙌🏾
I saw your video from Nepal, Badass! I live in Elsinore. You should ride the Elsinore grand prix it's Nov 9th. Super fun riding around the town.
Mike Alwardt Would love to do the LEGrandPrix but I believe I have jury duty that week 🤣 glad you enjoyed the videos brother 🤙🏾ride safe
Nice bike.
CRAZY EXTREME ENDURO thank you
Awesome job on the bike build!! Looks great 😎😎😎😎
Mike Shem thank you 🙌🏾
Awesome video, nice rebuild
Garney Muns thanks 🍾🤘🏽
Anymore videos coming for this bike man I really like that bike.

Nice build bro 👌👍 My kind of video that shows an average CL bike and make it into a realistic dream bike build. Hope you keep em coming
Eric Cortez thank you very much 🙌🏾 glad you enjoyed the video.
Very good video !!! What is the crown and pinion ratio you use?
What is the tire size?
Lidisson Caldeira thank you. Crown pinion I have not messed with so it’s OEM specs. Tire size in the rear is 110/100-18. Front 90/100-21
Maaaaaan I’m late and new to the channel this was relaxing as hell 👍🏾 sick build man
Tevin C thank you for the support 🙌🏾🍾

Great work!Do all 02 Cr250 have that motor knock/ticking noise?i just picked one up and the guy told me they all sound like that..by the work you do I don’t think you’d over look something like a motor knock...yours sounds the same as mine so I’m just a little hopeful there’s some insight..thanks in advance Greg
Greg RCbasher I’m no expert on the engines, this is my first top end build, so I don’t really know what I’m listening for as far as engine knocks go. Bike has been reliable and never broke down since my ownership which is now going on year 3. Power delivery has remained consistent. I think with proper scheduled maintenance these Japanese bikes are bulletproof 🤘🏽
Auzzy Khan ok great thanks for the info!love the video and impressive riding too man
Just picked up an 04 CR250 in decent shape. So far I want to change the reeds, exhaust flange and a top end just so I know it's good to begin with. Do you normally have to do anything with the cylinder or just swap the piston and rings
@@michaelcalderon4401 that’s awesome congrats ! When I did mine I just swapped my piston and rings and it’s been fine for the past 6 years; but some people do hone the cylinder if needed.
I knew the bike was not abused by previous owner (old retired dude single owner) and so I just did the minimal to get a good starting baseline for myself.
@playaa_from_the_himalaya Whats the usual interval to refresh the top end
@ really depends how hard you ride it. People change it out anywhere between 75-100hrs. I’ve neglected maintenance on mine for the past couple of years but it still runs strong. Make sure to lubricate the piston, rings and cylinder well with 2T oil. Follow proper break in cycle, and use proper fuel to oil mixture based on where you live or plan to ride the bike 👍🏽
Where are these trails at bro?!!? They look sooo sick!
Thank you. Trails are in Big Bear and also San Diego California.
Makes me love my 98 cr250 even more
Looks good but damn those Wisecos rattle! Replate and Vertex piston will quiet it down.
Tepco Cycle Repair thank you. Something to consider I guess
Hello how are you. I never get tired of watching the videos. Excellent. Comonusa bars in compression and rebound for enduro. in slow broken places?
Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad you enjoy this video 👍🏽
I just wish I had half the knowledge this man does. Great video!
Tanner Brown thank you kind sir 🍾🤙🏾
Awesome! I have a 02 cr250 that I use for manly trails also, wondering what advantage you feel with the fly wheel weight and y switch to an 18??
Skyler Levesque thank you. Theoretically
with the flywheel weight you get a smoother feel of the bike; softens the hit of the powerband because of the added mass (weight) to the existing flywheel. You add rotating weight to the crankshaft, and that adds inertia. Basically RPM doesn't want to change as much. So it's harder to lug down and it won't rev up as quick. I noticed when I was climbing hills I was getting better traction on the rear wheel...rear wheel was not ripping up the earth as much and I was not sliding everywhere. Also less stalling with the flywheel weight on at tight technical sections because crankshaft is spinning longer. Less stress on your left hand feathering the clutch too.
I read online on a forum that the 19" tire was developed to save weight. Rubber is heavy. The Outside diameter of a 19” is about the same as an 18", thus the 19” will have less rubber and weigh less, that’s why it’s used for track riding. 18" for trail riding is preferred because of its higher side wall. Also less chances of flats. KTM/HUSKY/BETA models for trail all come with the 18” rear. I believe the new CRF450L is an 18” rear too.
So to answer your question as far as advantage goes, I would say yes there is an advantage but not a big one, and really depends what type of trail you will ride. If you have the time and budget, go for it. I didn’t mind the raw pull of the powerband before the extra weight. That was the fun part of the 2 stroke MX..trying to tame a wild screeching bat out of hell. But either way, I like both settings. I think if I am riding at an open desert I would take out the flywheel weight... just a personal preference.
Cheers 🤙🏾
What a beauty ✌
SPARKY thank you
Sick bike build! From the ground up
Ben’s TV thank you
Awesome vid, made me want to head out to the garage! I noticed most of the parts looked worn some. Was it a budget build that you found used parts in good shape or were you installing new and using the bike along the way? Like your aggressive riding style too.
G.C. Simons thank you. It started off as a spare budget track bike since I already had a YZ450F, Husqvarna 310, KX250, and 2nd CR250 in the garage for tracks and trails. After a year of trial and error, I got rid of them except the husky. Parts are all new on my 2002 CR250 and yes I use them after every install to test them out. Glad you enjoyed the clip, thanks for the support 🙌🏾🍾
Nice man, thanks for getting back
Hey mate thanks for the info on your bike.Youve done an awesome job with that CR really looks old school but to me with those upgrades cooler and better then factory. And after all the work you put into it your not afraid to throw it around and ride it like they were meant to be ridden and not put away in the garage as a show piece lol.My 01 is similar but has the black rims (like alot of others haha) but gotta be the first time ive seen a later model CR like yours with gold rims and ...damn they look good.I live in NEWZEALAND and im guessing would have to order them in from the states and would be paying an almighty silly price for them and to get them shipped here....BUT still jst may have to get a set lol.Ill try to post up the bike once its all done. Keep up the cool vids mate and be interesting to see if you have any more future mods planned for the bike cheers
thank you again ! And no problem, here to help anytime. Excel Takasago rims are great if not one of the best; see if they carry it locally in New Zealand so that you won't have to pay the crazy shipping price. I saved a ton buy reusing the OEM hubs/aftermarket spokes; and not buying the whole wheel set from Warp 9 where they include the brake rotors and sprocket. I always wanted to try the gold rims so I thoroughly researched the fitment for my bike and after a while took the gamble hoping all the parts would fit lol. I had a 2004 CR250 before this and I had spray painted the rims gold. They look great in pictures but easily wear out and chip off for the riding I do. I sold that bike after getting this cleaner 02. Next project was going to be re-valving the forks and shock with the Race Tech Gold Valves; but my buddy was selling his 2003 CRF450R that already had forks and suspension re-valved and serviced by the pros; so we swapped them out and it bolted right on part for part on our bikes. The spring rate is a little heavier on the back but it actually works out perfectly for my body weight and all the shit I carry in the trails.
I look forward to your setup too.
Cheers brother !
You would be able to get your old rims powder coated gold for a lot cheaper
Jaye Mitchell that is very true, unless your old rims are cracked and busted then there is no point in investing for powder coat.
Great job! I wonder how much time went into the build and the video edit together. Good hard work and it paid off...sweet ride!
Red Riders thank you 🙌🏾 it was a slow and steady build over the course of 1 1/2 - 2 years which also involved trial and error with tune ups and test rides. There was no urgency to build so I took my time. The edits were not bad either, it’s mostly small clips I usually post on my Instagram that were compiled together @playaa.from.the.himalaya
Good build dude 🤘🏽
Dom-Chenn714 thanks ✊🏽
What was that sealant you used on the silencer? Nice work by the way. I have an 04' and love it. Just bought a Lectern HV carb for it.
john beach I use the Permatex ultra black gasket maker. It works great. I owned an 04 before this one...built and flipped it before I got too attached to it. My current one is a keeper lol. Heard great things about the Lectron high velocity 🙌🏾✊🏽
Beautiful machine
garymarcks thank you 🍾🙌🏾
Need to see more videos like this the bike actually being used for what it is made for and not just doing speed passes on a flat road.
Ride Red haha thank you 🍾🙌🏾
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya I have a 07 crf450r and do Grand prix races with it and love these older hondas. They are just great bikes. 👍
Ride Red that’s awesome. Mine currently has the shock and forks from a 2003 CRF450R that were professionally revalved. Little stiffer rear shock but works perfect for my weight with riding gear.
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya Very nice, I need to revalve mine or stiffer springs because on certain jumps especially hitting face of a certain jump at local track I can feel front forks bottom out.
Ride Red assuming you have already played around with the compression/rebound settings. If not, I highly advise that you do. Makes a huge difference and you may not even need to re-valve or replace springs.
Nice build. You should look into the rekluse clutch
steve billow thank you. Yeah rekluse not my cup of tea 😜 I’m all for new technology but when it comes to motorcycle clutch/gear shifting, I need my tactile sensation and the need to feel in control..manual clutch is a challenge and a thrill in itself.
Sweet build buddy! I went all out on my 02 CR250 as well for trail riding. The one thing I haven’t done is a flywheel weight. Which weight did you go with?
mfoauto thank you. It looks like the 2002 are the popular choice for builds. I used a steahly 10oz Flywheel weight. You could use a 14oz from them too but it requires a little grinding on the inside of the ignition cover for clearance.
Nice work!!!
Thank you 🍾
Very nice build mate. Those wheels look awesome what brand and size plse.and where did you get the stickers.Ihave an 01 cr250 and would be happy to have mine looking any where as nice as yours. And dude you can ride.cheers.
Thanks bud ! Wheels are (WARP 9) 18x2.15 32 Hole Rear & 21x1.60 36 Hole Front. Cheaper to just buy rims and spokes if you are capable of lacing/truing the wheel on your own onto the stock hubs. Wheel spokes are “pro wheel” brand. The graphics I customized on my own at motocal.com; long process but a fun one. 01CRs are bad ass, goodluck with your build. Feel free to ask any questions 🤙🏾

Did you paint the top half of that oversized tank black?
John John yes I did 😜
Just spray paint? It looks so much better like that I need to do that to mine
John John initially I used black plasti dip, but that peals off little by little over time. So I just spray painted the top black. Black matches with the bike like the OEM tank. But I also want practicality and be able to gauge where my fuel level is, so I left the bottom clear.

What does it weight? Is it true what they say: building a used 250 costs almost or as much as a new 250??
Clark Kent I haven’t really taken time to weigh it but it is definitely waaay lighter than my friends 03CRF450R and my own 2014 Husqvarna TE310R.
Building a used 250 does cost money, but not as much as people claim. The old builds are usually compared to a Brand New bike for instance a KTM/Husky 300 two stroke which go for $10,000-15,000. Even the new bikes people aren’t satisfied with their carburetors, suspension, shocks, exhaust, brakes, tires, clutch/gearing system, seats and so forth. Just a new lectron carb is >$500; rekluse clutch system >$700; suspension and revalved jobs>$1000. The list goes on.
Personally I build the bike for my sentimental value towards a CR250 and the era it signifies. It was a great learning experience, and overall I gained valuable knowledge which I could not have gotten even if I had paid someone.
If you are building a bike just for the sake of saving money and not so much for the passion of motorcycle knowledge... try to get a decently new/used bike that already has all bells and whistles for a reasonable price.
When you build for the sake of saving money or profit to sell after, it’s a gamble so I can’t really answer that question for you since I am not an expert on that.
Hope that helps 🙌🏾🍾
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya yz80j was my first. Yz 125 second, then I bought a cr250 and what an amazing bike. Perfection. All my cars were Honda after that and still have one today. Hello! Great video! Do you have any idea how many miles per gallon Cr does? I'm looking to buy one for trail riding
Thank you 🙏🏽 and sorry I never took the time to calculate the mileage per gallon. If your rides are long I would suggest the IMS desert tank
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya Thanks!
Hello how are you doing. how much oil did you arm the shocks with?
jorge pussetto All is good. Inner chamber 185ml. Outer chamber 340ml. It may be a little off but again I’m no pro so this works for my weight and style of riding.
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya I asked you because I see that it works very well ahead. me cr 01 has the same amount. but sometimes it is very hard and I don't know why.
jorge pussetto FORKS: compression 13out (topside of fork)
Rebound 15 clicks out (bottom of forks)
Rear shock: TOP PART of shock
High speed (14mm socket): 1.5 or 2 turns out depending on how soft/slow you want.
Low speed (flat head) : 13 clicks out shock.
However I know the bikes changed their engine and frame after 2002 so not sure if you have the same suspension components as mine. This is just a rough guide for you.
Good luck friend 🤙🏾

REAL nice build, Brother !!!! Curious...what's yr opinion on Mousse Tubeless Inserts for enduro?? (Your seat cover is awesome, whole bike is so trick)
Clark Kent I am just a regular weekend rider so I still stick with regular tubes for my bikes. But I definitely recommend mousse on the front tire if your doing the real hard enduro stuff to avoid pinch flats. I love tubliss system in the rear for its traction ...but if you mess it up you still kinda need to carry a spare tube with you as backup so...not my cup of tea. I have no problem changing out tires and tubes so I stick with old school tubes.
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya good to know. Might as well stick to tubes then if Mousse still get wrecked. Thanx 4 the advice.
Clark Kent wait let me clarify. Mousses, tubliss and tubes are three different things. Mousses don’t get wrecked. They are the most durable of the 3 options. The hardcore enduro riders use mousses because mousses can take a good beating and they don’t have to worry about flats and loosing track/race time. Mousses are super durable but you can’t change the setting (hard-soft) of the tire on the go. On tubes and tubliss you can add or take out more air to set the tire pressure of your preference based on where you are riding. For instance for better traction = less air pressure in the tires but you risk of flats. To avoid flats = more air pressure in the tire/tubes but you loose traction and performance. If you are running tubliss and ride real hard, big jumps and so forth..you also risk ruining your rims.
Anyway...like I said I’m just a regular dude doing simple regular rides so I stick with tubes. I pump slightly more air in my tubes at the beginning of the ride to avoid pinch flats, but I am compromising the traction/performance of my bike. As the ride goes along...I adjust the tire pressure accordingly to get the best of both worlds.
If you have the money, try mousse and tubliss system...maybe you will like it better than tubes. Won’t know till you try it.
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya wow, lots to think about. I like the appeal of adjusting the pressure as u ride. Thanx for the feedback !!

@@Gabriel19-87 I’ll have to check what size it is next time I clean it out.
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya ok, thanks bro
Where can I get nuts and bolts for the cr250 plastics
Google: Specbolt - Honda CR 2-Stroke 250pc Bolt Kit - CR250
eBay might carry them too.
Does the flywheel weight actually make a big difference?
I would not say big, but you definitely feel the difference. Way less stalling. Traction is better, less unnecessary wheel spin.
Auzzy Khan ok which weight would be the best the 10 12 or 14?
Go karting101 I did 10 because 14 requires some modification, you have to grind the inside of the ignition cover for clearance. I actually enjoy the snappy nature of the bike without the aftermarket flywheel so I would not want to go too heavy with the weight.
Auzzy Khan ok
Honda valley that like down the street from me haha
Brady rodgers nice. It’s small but you can get creative and do quite a bit there.
Where did you get those graphics from?
Motocal.com: I designed them myself
Wouldn't this bike's powerband be too much for trail ?
jason halbert it all depends on how you utilize the clutch-work. Yes this 250cc 2 stroke has a high powerband, but so do the KTM//HUSKY/BETA 300 class 2 strokes, and those bikes probably have a higher power band but are the preferred & race winning enduro bikes used by top class European riders during the red bull Romanians, hixpania hard enduro and so forth. Riding slow and being able to feather the clutch is a whole different and necessary skill on its own for trail riding. People also take the easy and convenient route by putting in a rekluse clutch...but that’s a whole different topic.
Cheers 🤙🏾
@@playaa_from_the_himalaya wow very cool! And i guess redo the suspension to make it softer
Then i can see be a great trail bike
jason halbert thank you. Forks and shock were revalved and resprung for my height and weight; and compression rebound set for trail riding a month after this clip. Bike has been weaponized to attack the trails.
